PASIR PUTEH, June 22 (Bernama) -- The federal government has approved a RM30 million allocation for over 13,000 people in Kelantan in need of various forms of assistance under this year's welfare programme.
Kelantan Social Welfare Deputy Director Che Ngah Ismail said the amount was bigger than the RM7 million approved by the state government, most of which was for management expenses.
"The welfare programme involves various programmes including for the disabled and chronic patients," he told reporters after closing the Kampung Jeram-Gaal Rehabilitation-Within-the-Community family day at Tok Bali here yesterday.
Che Ngah said that last year, the federal allocation was RM24 million and the icrease was to implement a new programme for chronic patients who needed family attention at all times.
He said people earning less than RM700 were eligible for the RM300 monthly aid to alleviate their family burden and they could apply for it at social welfare offices in their areas from now.
He also said he expected the number of people needing aid to increase by 10 percent. "All applications will be studied in details to ensure that only those who qualify receive aid," he said.
