(Bernama) -- The motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, which the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) is contemplating, is not necessary because it does not concern government business, Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek said.

He said the tabling of a motion in parliament would depend on the Dewan Rakyat Speaker and that according to the rules of the House, priority was for motions tabled by the government.

"Under which provision can a member table a motion of no confidence against (the leader of) the government of the day?" he told reporters after the Information Ministry's Excellent Service Award presentation here today.

Ahmad Shabery said he did not believe that there was a way for members of the House to raise and table a motion for a vote of no confidence.

"If motions can be tabled at will, no one can form a government or perform its responsibilities because everyday there will be someone who wants to table a motion," he added.

Ahmad Shabery said the SAPP action, which he regarded as threatening, was against the principles of the Barisan Nasional.

However, he said the SAPP's action would not affect the BN.

By giving up BNs, the news paper Powered by BNs will be next to history, if they dont act properly.

SAPP*s action willor willnot affect Bn is another story!But it is making BN*vessel* sink like the Titanic in the Ocean!This political tsunami is the biggest in 50 years for Semenanjung;it could well be the first and last also because never in BN history has a component party openly suggesting their vote inno-concidence in the PM!Collapse of BN can be two ways-either immediate or a slow cancerous death!Either way it works!

Info. Minister-More like 3rd rate Propaganda Minister. If UMNO/BN so strong and have majority support then you should not be afraid of the No Confidence Motion. The way you BN handle the issue clearly indicated otherwise. End to UMNO/BN rule.

Everyone who reads MT knows (Yep, especially the UMNO cyber-commandos) that the BN's Ministry of Information (aka Misinformation)is a well 'oiled' propaganda and spin machine. (Except maybe AAB..becase most times he's not aware of anything. They'll wag the dog without batting an eyelid. BN always reserve the Minister of Information for someone who can take orders to run this machine to avoid being targets themselves.

Don't trust Bernama. However, I was impressed by the news in Astro Awani which they said the Speaker can't use his power to stop this motion because it is in the no confident vote is already in Agong's jurisdiction. Correct me if I'm wrong..

Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek is a prime example of a low grade, intellectually challenged Umno politician who gets where they are by their ability to fight/bribe/kiss ass up the line, not by their mental prowess.

A vote of no confidence is provided for in the constitution so why is this idiot saying it can't be tabled because it doesn't concern govt. business?

The speaker has no power to stop a properly tabled motion of no-confidence with the requisite notice given. This would be usurping the constitution.
