PETALING JAYA: The continued insensitive attitude of the Government towards serious issues in Sabah is the main reason Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) decided to move a motion of no-confidence against the Prime Minister.

Its president Datuk Yong Teck Lee said the party had to make a stand before the “window of opportunity” closed by August after which Sabah would be forgotten again.

The nation’s attention will switch to MCA and Umno elections, people will be pre-occupied with the fasting month, Hari Raya, school exams and year-end events,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Political fatigue in the national mainstream over 'Sabah-Sabah-Sabah' issues will set in.”

He said the momentum for Sabah to recover autonomy, obtain 20% oil royalties instead of the present five per cent and the return of Labuan would be lost.

Unfair federal laws, excessive taxes and structural imbalances in the economy will remain entrenched. Sabah will remain the poorest state subservient to central leadership.

The illegal immigrant problem will reach boiling point.

With our political move today (yesterday), SAPP hereby initiates the political process to claim 20% in oil royalties, which is after all the natural resource of Sabah,” he added.

Yong said the extra billions could be invested in agriculture, education, capacity-building and achieve self-sufficiency in many areas.

We can therefore insulate ourselves from external shocks or an economic tsunami,” he said.

He added that the people of Sabah were also suffering from high inflation because of recent “astronomical” and “unexpected” fuel price hikes, which was contrary to a Barisan election promise.

He said fuel prices have caused the business sector to stagnate and predicted that unemployment and social problems would rise.

But the Government’s responses seem ad-hoc, flip-flop and lacking in foresight with a fire-fighting style.”

Among the problems that Yong said would remain unsolved were poverty eradication, rural development, racial politics, illegal immigrants, crime and drugs. - The Star

SAPP's move is only a 1/2 measure. But never mind! 1/2 also can take. SAPP shld join PR immediately. As Azmin said, 2 down, 28 to go. Who's keeping score? It's getting better than Euro 2008! http://www.ctchoolaw.********.com/

You hit the nail on the head. If Sabah don't get the attention NOW, it will be forever forgotten.

In 5 years time, the lip service will be back to woo the voters and we all know, Sabahan voters can be 'bought' by BN for RM20 due to their lack of education and poverty!

AAB gave himself away.

AAB said Yong is too greedy, asking more than AAB offer.

Basically, AAB offers but not enough.

Now, I know why road tax refund in cash. Cash missing is hard to account for.

Today Sabahans got no choice!Out of the frying pan into the fire,as the saying goes may hold true(Philippines eyeing us)but our current issue of illegal immigrants and food on the table for the average household not within reach! If the average Sabahan can afford roti canai.maggie, and porridge for breakfast, lunch & dinner, then I think they are still willing to carry onin the present scenario!Dont forget the average Sabah family is not a one child or two children! There are sometimes a dozen siblings!Food for thought! smilies/smiley.gif

Why must Sabah choose either BN or PR & again be just subsumed by Malaya.

Thanks to previous BN gerrymandering Sabah has enough political clout to be a force to be reckoned with.

Maybe Sabah's role in Malaysia is to be the noisy one and to keep BN & PR in check.

We are after all the most racially and religiously integrated state in the country. Malaya could learn from us.

Yong & Pairin should have tackled all these Sabah issues being raised now when they were the Chief Minister of Sabah. Yong, what makes you change your mind and decides to focus your attention on these issues now? All you Sabah Ex-Chief Ministers (with the very rare exception of TS Chong Ah Kiat) spent precious time in self benefits, with one ex-CM even managing to lost over rm120 millions in gambling.
Indeed I believe Pak Lah when he said he couldn’t satisfy Yong’s greed because Yong is indeed a very greedy man. We shall wait and see, in the days to come, who are Yong’s puppeteer(s).

According to Deputy President Raymond Tan, Yong's statement was arbitary and done without the approval of the party's Supreme Council.

Instead of BN meeting on Sapp, the party's Supreme Council should meet and ask Yong to explain his public statement.

Rainbowseahorse, how did CKK differ from other Sabah CMs regarding issues like Sabah's share of oil revenue and illegal immigrants (particularly Project IC, considering his mentor was its alleged mastermind)?

Hello Mr.Bodowi please elaborate and specify what are YTL’s greeds.

Don’t just simply accuse people of their greeds. What about yours, your immediate families who lives like vampires. What do you think of yourself personally. Do you think you are honest and trustworthy. You think you are a perfect mr.nice guy. Don’t you? Go and fly your kite somewhere at the north pole and get lost.

archie, have you heard of anything bad done by CCK? He does not have the political clout to tackle these issues besetting Sabah as it was under Tun M regime. He did what was within his power for the people of Sabah and he was not tarnished nor fall into temptations like Yong & other CMs before and after him. Plus he is not a hypocrite by pretending to champion for Sabah's rights under false pretense. He is a man of principal as shown by his resignation from politics for what he believes as a just cause. Can we say the same of any other of our CMs?
