Opalyn Mok, The Sun

SEBERANG PERAI (June 9, 2008): Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng says Penang Umno's call for the second bridge to be scrapped had undermined foreign investors' confidence in the state.

"Umno's call in March has particularly affected investments from (South) Korea," he added.

"My trip to (South) Korea was to restore their (Koreans) confidence and although we know that the bridge will commence and be built due to assurances from the second finance minister, we have to try very hard to convince them about this," he said.

He added that if necessary, he may have to make another trip to (South) Korea to give them further assurances that the bridge project will commence.

Lim said his recent trip to Hongkong and (South) Korea was a business networking visit to reintroduce Penang to investors.

"Many in Hongkong have not been to Penang since 15 or 20 years ago, so it is time for them to re-visit Penang," he said.

Speaking in a press conference after the ground breaking ceremony of Ibiden Electronics Malaysia Sdn Bhd in the Penang Science Park in Bukit Minyak today, Lim said there are companies in the biotechnology, high technology, manufacturing and service industries with high wage job opportunities that are interested in coming to Penang.

"It is not appropriate for me to announce which companies are coming here as confidentiality is important. We have to respect the confidentiality of the companies and let them make their announcements," he said.

Lim described vernacular Chinese newspaper reports quoting certain politicians as revealing foreign investors' plan as "irresponsible".

"These politicians, especially those who have been in this for 18 years, should understand that this should be kept in strict confidentiality. It could be efforts by them (the politicians) to discourage investments here," he said.

"We should not identify companies which have not finalised their decisions to invest here as we must respect their need for strict confidentiality," he said.

It is believed one of the politicians Lim was referring to is former Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon who has been quoted by the vernacular newspapers.

So that's where the Petronas money goes to? We do not need the second bridge if it means increasing the oil price!

Those BN are useless,
When PR has in control of Penang, Umno Demo...they make noise, hey...UMNO Dogs, and PIgss, listen and respect to Penang People Choice. When talk about investment they know nuts and cable connection for corruptions.
When we talk about investors, the no ball man call KSK, has stand-up and claims that is your efforts, .... Hey, no ball man, we know you have done your approaches but th nuts policy has hold back the investors to Penang. So, should we giving your the positive sign about this????
Penang, by natural is more on the focus for economy growth, educations, and fairness of government policies to ensure the Penang will to be come as shining Pearl of Asia, so we always voted for anti-BN cronies, bias, unfair policies for the decades ago.
So pitty, KSK you does not get our thump-up for all the ground works that you had done for the past.

Please integrate public transport system on the second bridge -- railway or LRT or tram. Bridge = linking two places, doesnt mean car lanes only.

Take into account Penang future development, not only transportation needs, environmental needs as well. More cars = More traffic jam = More polution

A LRT lane on the bridge would obviously boasted the carrying capacity of the bridge many times.

We have to get use to the concept of 'park & ride'. Proper multi storey parking facilities should be provided at all LRT stations.

Also, i bet those tenders already been issued and commision has been paid to subsequent parties and now they need the money to implement. so here it goes. wait n see for all the announcements after so called "cost cutting" so lame. to cut cost by 10 percent for entertainment. haha.. the funniest part of this situation we elected those ministers into their post and we suffer for it. likes we put our own cage around us rite? i hope those guys who voted for PM and Najib happy now. have a good sweet dream BN voters.

I hope the state governmnet for Johor, Pahang, Terengganu, Sarawak and Sabah will provide subsidy to their folks, but hopes remains as hope. Otherwise those in that state will regret for 4 long years for voting BN before they can do something about it.
However, waking up is still better than dreaming all the time.

Only in Malaysia: PM and ex-PM fight over a bridge to a neighbouring country which that country does not want.
