Fuel price hike: Lorry charges up 50pc PDF Print

(New Straits Times) - Lorry operators in Perlis, Kedah, Penang and northern Perak have increased their charges by 40 and 50 per cent, depending on the capacity of their vehicles, effective yesterday.

Malaysia Lorry Transport Association (northern region) president Datuk Yusoff Ismail said the increase was inevitable because of the rise in diesel price.

The rate goes up by 40 per cent for lorries with capacity of between 28 and 40 tonnes.

Smaller vehicles will charge 50 per cent more.

"The increase is unavoidable as the price of diesel had gone up by 63 per cent.

"Operators and companies providing lorry transportation services cannot afford to bear such a large increase," Yusoff said here yesterday.

The industry is also hit by the increase of the cost of spare parts and maintenance.

The pump price for diesel went up from RM1.58 per litre to RM2.58 on Thursday.

The association will reconsider the increase in lorry charges if the government allowed those in the business to buy subsidised diesel at RM1.43 per litre, which is extended to fishermen, boat owners and public transport operators.

extract from somewhere...

While most Malaysians were expecting an increase, the 41 per cent hike has them fuming especially when Malaysia is a net exporter of petroleum.

The rise also puts the spotlight on Petronas, the national oil corporation, its income, and how the use of that income is shrouded in mystery.

Our pump price is about the highest among net petroleum exporting countries, critics point out, saying the situation is baffling.

In comparison to our RM2.70 a litre, in Saudi Arabia the price is RM0.38/ litre, Iran RM0.35/litre, Nigeria RM0.32/litre, Turkmenistan RM0.25/litre and Venezuela RM0.16/ litre. Even in Indonesia, where oil production has dropped so low that it wants out of OPEC, the price after last months 30 per cent increase is RM1.86/a litre.

The inevitable question many Malaysians always ask is why we have to pay so much more when we are an exporter of petroleum and Petronas earns huge profits yearly.

The comparison argument by umno-led govt that Malaysia's petrol pump price is the cheapest among developed countries, hence justifying its hike. Bolehland is bodohland, clearly a third world country whereby it flaunted an obsolete f-ugly japanese car as its national car called protong.

A great country controlled by useless, greedy, corrupt gov't ministers who massively mismanaged for decades, wasted / siphoned the country's wealth, the envy of many. This mismanagement is a red herring, it's deliberate & proven workable attempt to camouflage corruption.

Yeh, we enjoy 1st world nation's prices without a corresponding first world quality in our lifestyles. Come to think of it, this makes me angry, prices going up across the board & the bloody bastards tell us to change our lifestyles.

There are many educated filipino degree-holders working as maids in foreign countries, thanks or no thanks to decades of that tyrant corrupt Marcos who escaped punishment in death. Given time, some day Malaysians will have to go overseas to work as maids too (Malaysians have accepted enough rope to hang itself). Strangely although Marcos screwed/raped/sodomised the Philippines for decades, there were still millions of Marcos supporters. That shows, it is not so difficult to control & influence most people.

Same-lah in Bodohland - the govt screwed/raped/sodomised the country for decades & inspite of all that ****-up done, millions will stubbornly give their votes to scum-of-the-earth politicians. Shows that the stupid Malaysians, you are not alone, there are many of the same pathetic category as you in the Philippines too, and elsewhere.

Malaysians had a golden once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to salvage the situation on March 8, 2008 & half the country's voters blew it. Nia-mah, shitheads.

The BN government is thinking that the Malaysian people are a stupid lot by announcing that the inflation rate is only about 5%. I think all of us know that inflation is more like 30% - 50% now!! The poor will be the most hit and the BN government has no concrete plan on how to help them through except to dish-out a few dollars here and there!

Malaysia is blessed with many natural resources. For the past 50 years and with the current high prices of petroleum, natural resources such as palm oil, rubber, tin, aquaculture, forestry products, etc, Malaysia’s coffer should be brimming with money.

The money could have been used to build highways, schools for every race, reduce tariffs on cars including national cars, reduce prices of utilities, road taxes, personal income taxes, food, school fees, etc.

In a well managed economy like this, there is no need for subsidy.

But instead of using the nation’s coffer to build and provide roads, highways, schools, reduce car tariffs, cheap electricity, cheap food, school fees, etc, the BN government splurged on wastages and non-prioritised projects. Lopsided contracts were given to cronies to squeeze the citizens even more.

That’s why the subsidy system came into being – to relieve the financial burden of the citizens. The subsidy system in Malaysia exists only because of the deeply entrenched crony system – it goes hand in hand!

If the BN government want to get rid of the subsidy system of oil it must also get rid of the crony system. It cannot just get rid of the subsidy system but retain the blood sucking crony system with escalating prices on toll (toll concessionaires), electricity (TNB), water (Syabas), telephone (Telekom), rice & flour (Bernas), Astro, excise duties on cars (Proton).

Removing the oil subsidy but maintaining the crony system is not only wrong – it is a double whammy to the citizens! The citizens have to pay high prices for oil and for daily basic necessities for tolls, electricity, communication, entertainment and foodstuffs.

It's like throwing the citizens to the wolves!

While I sympathise with the impact of increase in diesel, I cannot help but think that some of these operators are opportunists. Obviously, diesel is not the only component in their costing but also wear and tear. But they can just say that the cost of components are going up without showing us any proof. I challenge the operators to disclose their source of supply and verified by the relevant association and Ministry so that we the rakyat may be appeased that you really have no choice.

lynn, Rainforest, and ez24get,

you guys are damn RIGHT !

this country is robbed by the UMNO elites and rallied by a bunch of monkeys in the so called BN spirit. They plundered country's wealth, and they robbed the peasant in any possible ways.

subsidy, my foot, the gas price is determined by government, while Malaysia does not import any, there is no such thing as subsidy. All these being cooked up by the bunch of bloody suckers. All the money has been steadily pumped into their own bank accounts, and they are richest than the Malaysia Top 10 -- all with illegal ill-gotten wealth.

Rescue this damned Malaysia.

Bodohwi is a dirty filty lying basxxxx. When Cuepecs asked for a raise in salaries, he claimed that the goverment cannot give a raise in salaries as then prices of goods will be increased when sellers know that civil servants have got a raise in salaries, so why did he increase the price of petrol if he was concerned about the price of goods going up. In fact giving the salary increase to cuepacs will not have any direct impact on the price of goods but increasing the price of petrol has a direct impact and the increase in huge not just 10 or 20%. This shows that the sleepy head does not care about the rakyat, he was just giving stupid excuses not to increase the salaries of civil servants but now has no qualms about increasing price of petrol.

He is such a hypocrite and if cuepacs is smarts, they should now question him.
