Opposition: Boycott Malay papers for fanning racial hatred PDF Print

The Pakatan Rakyat alliance has called for an immediate boycott of Malay newspapers Utusan Malaysia and Mingguan Malaysia for what it said was unfair reporting and for allegedly fanning racial sentiments.

In a joint statement issued at a press conference in the lobby of Parliament, Opposition leader Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the mainstream media had shown signs of opening up since the results of the March 8 polls.

However, many publications still gave wider coverage to Barisan Nasional and its component parties, while stories on Pakatan Rakyat tended to be full of distortion and misinformation to discredit the alliance parties and their leaders, she claimed.

The Parti Keadilan Rakyat president was accompanied by alliance members DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and PAS deputy president Nasaruddin Mat Isa in reading out the joint statement.

Dr Wan Azizah said the worst were the two aforementioned newspapers, which she claimed unfairly criticised and demonised Pakatan Rakyat leaders.

She also alleged these publications were always trying to provoke narrow ethnic sentiments, "clearly with the intention of creating anger among Malays against Pakatan Rakyat component parties."

It is unfortunate that these Malay newspapers are owned by UMNO or BN cronies. These MSM never failed to kiss up their owners/master. As and when the masters instructed or even before, these MSMs are self censored and sing the same tunes.

The latest effort to shield the eyes of the public after UMNO's miserable performance in GE is to chock up racial sentiments in every opportunity. These newspaper mediums follow religiously.

I have not been reading the Malay MSM for a long time. M-Today is my choice!

Yes - its time to surface the racial terrorists and expose their illegitimate behavior - those holding this nation to ransom by fanning fear, uncertainty, and blame.

Malaysia rakyat - we owe our nation and our children a much better future.
(we will all lose in racial nationalism)

Mens rea & actus reus of sedition are present in most of the inflammatory articles. Make a police report and send them to jail or better still send them to Kamunting under ISA. Celaka punya orang.

Make a start by ensuring that the named papers will not appear in any state government agencies or GRCs run by PR governments.

If RPK statement on the Altantuya murder case is deemed seditious and some of the other non-government comments are racial-filled which potentially may cause unrest in the country, then perhaps the people behind these newspapers, Hishamuddin's & his antics of kris-wielding and those 'ketuanan melayu' remarks should also be treated as such as well, seditious and poses a threat to the nation.

Maybe as a start all PR controlled govt offices and departments should stop purchasing these newspapers, this is what Mahathir did to Newsweek and FEER a long time ago.

Yes, stop purchasing of these papers is a good way to vote with our 'feet'. At least now the English dailies, Star and Straits Times, are less sycophantic that before the election. Even MCA, MIC, Gerakan are also moving with the times, although a little too late.

The govt. of Selangor can find a way to drive NST group as well as The Star, Nanyang Siang Pau, Sin Chew Jit Poh, etc. etc., to move their premises out of Selangor. How do you justify an enterprise who spits and shits on its own dining table? Probably the state can't revoke their publishing licenses, but at least it can revoke or suspend their business licenses as these come under the jurisdiction of the local govts.

WILL UMNO SURVIVE?
The fear among many people of UMNO ever breaking-up is being allayed by their trust in Dr Mahathir. There is nothing that he cannot fix. In fact, he, and the party may even come out more triumphant in any crisis. So goes the thought. Will it work this time around? To get an idea, let's look at some aspects of UMNO's less bright side. To begin with the party lacks renewed idealism. Its membership is elicited among social climbers with corporate ambitions, rather than among those with a commitment to a cause. As some would see it, in UMNO, the only cause worth dying for (or lying for) is money.

It is really sad to see people of this noble profession ( where the pen is classified as mightier than the sword ), resort to polishing their political masters for mere crumbs thrown to them.

These irresponsible journalists should realise the damage they can do to the unity and progress of the nation, with their trumped up reports. Mahathir is also a culprit who goes around creating bogeymen and fanning the racial hatred.

Isn't this trend seditious ???

It is only people with peanut brains and who have run out of intelligents, who will resort to such " below the belt " tactics. It's like Tyson biting Holyfields ears !!!
