IPOH: An election petition to declare the results of the Teja state constituency null and void will be heard before the High Court here next month.
By CHAN LI LEEN Election judge Siti Mariah Ahmad fixed June 13 and 16 to hear preliminary objections by the constituency's returning officer and the Election Commission. Both have been named as second and third respondents in the petition filed by Barisan Nasional candidate Yew Sau Kham. On April 25, Yew had filed the petition challenging the results of the Teja seat, which she lost to first respondent, Parti Keadilan Rakyat's Chang Lih Kang by a mere 175 votes. Yew claimed that the March 8 results of the Teja constituency was invalid because a registered female voter had not been allowed to vote at the Lawan Kuda Timur polling station. The woman was assumed to have already cast her vote as a line was found to have been drawn across her name on the voters' list. Yew further claimed that later at 6pm, nine election workers at separate counting centres were told to leave their respective centres even before the vote-counting process had been completed. The court was informed that Chang would be filing a notice to strike out the petition.
