Press Statement (Kenyataan Media) - Royal Commission Report, May 12, 2008 PDF Print
Monday, 12 May 2008 22:30

We welcome the submission of the report of the Royal Commission on the Lingam video clip to the Yang  DiPertuan Agong. We call for its full ventilation to the Malaysian public.

If Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi is serious about judicial reform, then he should take this report to its logical culmination which is the investigation and prosecution of those who the report deems to have deviated the course of justice.

We have to ask what the import of the Royal Commission's findings are with respect to the unjust prosecutions and convictions in cases that fell within the gravitational field of  the inquiry conducted by this Commission.

It is critical that adequate measures be taken to restore the independence of the judiciary and to ensure the professional and unbiased investigation and prosecution of criminal activity by the Attorney General's chambers that is free of executive interference.

This would involve serious consideration of the inconsistence and dubious procedures being followed by the authorities right now in the investigation of cases that involve senior government officials and, to mention a few of the more egregious allegations, murder and the massive misappropriation of public fund.

These issues are of deep concern to the Malaysian people and should not be taken lightly by the present administration. A half-hearted attempt at restoration would be as unsatisfactory as no restoration at all.

ANWAR IBRAHIM

Kenyataan Media

ANWAR IBRAHIM

MR ANWAR. WHILE I AGREE WITH YOU ON THE RESTORATION OF INDEPENDENCE TO THE JUDICIARY, THE CULPRITS WHO WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS BAD IMAGE MUST BE PUNISHED AND PUNISHED SEVERELY! WHILE THE REPORT MAY ONLY BRING TO LIGHT FEW OF THE CRIMINALS, A COMPLETE INVESTIGATIVE ACTION MUST BE CARRIED OUT AFTER THE RELEASE OF THE REPORT, ON OTHERS WHO INSTIGATED AND RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MUSHROOMING OF SUCH CRIMINALS!

I don't believe there will be full scale clamped down on those guilty as long as BN is still the government of the day.Anwar has to speed up his plan so that as Prime Minister of Malaysia,he can pull out those guilty one by one and prosecute them accordingly.

These are the comments picked up in the MSM at the Lingamgate royal commission:-

Last Chief Justice - Fairuz
I have written to the Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohd Nazri Aziz…. I’m innocent, the video was a fabrication and a slander !

Lingam was bragging…

Prominent Lawyer - Lingam
It looks like me and it sounds like me… but it wasn’t Fairuz on the other side of the line.

My brother is of unsound mind…

AG – Abdul Gani Patail
There were no criminal elements in the video clip and that Lingam’s conversation was a ‘monologue’ in nature.

ACA
Lingam forgot his phone numbers and therefore I couldn’t obtain his mobile phone number….

I asked Fairuz whether Lingam had telephoned him and Fairuz replied he had not. Therefore I did not check further…. (by Chuah Lay Choo)

Instead of checking on Lingam and Fairuz, ACA harassed and threatened Anwar by “name source or face jail” and whistleblower Loh Mui Fah.

The ACA gave me $3,000…(Lingam Ex-secretary, Jeyanthi)

Previous Chief Justice - Eusoff
I accidentally bumped into Lingam in New Zealand and coincidentally on the same flight, van and visit itinerary with Lingam… (on the infamous NewZealand holiday)

Ex-Prime Minister - Dr M
I couldn’t remember…. I don’t have to explain why…

Ex-Tourism Minister - Adnan
Lingam is either mad or drunk…

Ex-Law Minister - Nazri
My press officer gave me the wrong information on Witness Protection Bill … (on his ignorance that the bill had not been passed in Parliament)

They are all crazy lawyers….(on the Bar Council 2,000 lawyers march)

What crises? I don’t see any.…

Because I’m his minister …. (on why he replied on behalf of Fairuz and his ignorance of the separation of the legislative and judiciary)…

Just look at this amazing, jaw-dropping elaborate web of deceit and conspiracies made by people of high places from Prime Minister, Ministers, Chief Justices, Judges, Attorney General, ACA, PDRM, Lawyers to Prominent businessmen!

Judging from the extensive inter-link of people of power and the many powerful institutions such as PDRM, ACA, AG, do you think that the common public will have a chance in court!

The Prime Minister has already usurped the powers of the judiciary and executive and had recently given an order for the police and the AG to expedite the Karpal Singh case.

In the very recent case of Bandar Mahkota Cheras residents on the clear-cut oppression by Grand Saga, the PDRM had used its full might on the long oppressed residents instead of the perpetrators of injustice. The court has also thrown out the injunction sought by the Cheras residents. The law minister and the works minister have all kept very quiet!

In spite of all the promises and lip service , have we seen any actual improvement in the justice system in Malaysia post-Lingamgate?

For the future, does RPK, Karpal Singh or the Bandar Mahkota Cheras residents or anybody not politically connected ever have a chance in court?

May god protect over the common, non-politically connected citizens of Malaysia! You are left to fend for yourself!

Anything to hide Mr.PM on this Lingam episode ? How come report not for the public eyes yet ? Do the right thing for the people, not for your friends or the govt. Take action & move on. Its that simple otherwise this Lingam saga will haunt your credibility further. By the way I was holidaying in Canada & the AG of British Columbia was investigated by his own office over some allegations corruption or abuse of power matters on land issues. He stepped down to allow an impartial investigation by his own office. Can our PM direct his officers to do the same, maybe if he does he may have a skeleton cabinet.

The Royal Commissiom had completed its role and concluded their findings. Now that the culprits are identified, there is this dire need for -
1. charges be pressed against the parties involved and implicated
2. seek and establish the restoration of the Judiciary under the recommendation
Should these two steps not be taken in any serious vein, we are all back to square one. The onerous responsibility and integrity of the Government to pursue these roles are undeniable.

If a BIG Investigation such as this, and BIG People are involved, why we did not see any news regarding any of those orang besar, were "invited for questioning??" So what made them or HOW they can finish the report??

What Lingam did is worst than what RPK wrote, Let's see if the AG and the Police are doing their job with all the evidences provided by the Royal Commission.

I wouldn't be at all surprised PM Bodowi makes an announcement this Friday that the reports of " THE ROYAL COMMISSION" on the Lingam tapes will be "for the eyes of the Cabinet members only" due to:
1) the complexity of case.
2) all those involved are high profile pro-Umno-cronies.
3) the Malay govt. will fall if action is taken against all those involved.
4) Cabinet bercadang fail ini di cap "Sulit" kemudian dihantar ke National Archives.
