PENANG: Persatuan Bunga Tanjung, the state organisation for wives of Barisan Nasional assemblyman and MPs, has been dissolved and the remaining funds, amounting to RM590,665, donated to charity organisations and Bakti.

The organisations which received the money were the Bureau of Learning Difficulties, Penang Cheshire Home, Penang Mental Health Association and Mount Miriam Hospital.

Former chief minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon’s wife Puan Sri Chui Kah Peng said they donated RM350,000 to Bakti while the remainder were given to the charity organisations.

She said the decision to donate the money to Bakti and other organisations was decided by PBT members at their AGM on March 9, a day after the election results were announced.

“The members were notified on Feb 2 that the AGM would be held on March 2. However, it was postponed to March 9 due to the general election. Forty-five members attended the AGM,” Chui said.

She said they agreed to dissolve the association at the AGM.

“After in-depth discussions at the AGM, all members present decided that under the present circumstances, the association would not be able to carry out the objectives in the spirit in which it was founded,” Chui said in a press statement.

She said the members also unanimous decided to disband PBT at the meeting and the committee proceeded to submit the relevant documents to the Registrar of Societies.

So, another round of so called BN charity body dissolving. This time avoiding the mistakes of Balkis. Nevertheless it's another show of BN self centreness. Who cares about charities when they no longer could go for annual overseas "learning" trips?

All these actions had justified the RAKYAT's votes.

Well this is another example of UMNO's party ethics of emulating Saddam the Great's principles -- when you lose, burn the oil rigs and screw the people. Well done UMNO, keep it up!! That's the way to the final curtain!!

It was set up for political reasons. Since BN lost the state it does not serve its purpose any more. Charity was always secondary. That's what they meant i guess!

Why do these people even bother creating such organisation? Such hypoceites. Anyone can do charity if they have a heart. It seems like the reason for creating such organisations is purely political. BN is deserved to be called the filth of the nation. How stupid can people be to vote for BN?
