Forget about Mahathir. He is history. The future is not with Mahathir. Mahathir is about the past. The future lies in the hands of the present Prime Minister. Whether Abdullah stays in office or gets ousted will be what will decide our future. So let’s stay focused. Let’s see how to kick Abdullah out.

THE CORRIDORS OF POWER

Raja Petra Kamarudin

Information Minister cautions Mahathir

On Friday, 4 April 2008, Information Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek cautioned former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to be careful with his words lest they do more damage to Umno. He also said many of the things that Mahathir is now criticising were actually introduced by him when he was party president.

He said the tragedy that saw Umno being declared illegal in 1988 during the leadership of former prime minister and former Umno president Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad should not be allowed to be repeated. Therefore, Dr Mahathir should be careful when making public statements, added Shabery. He said Umno was previously deregistered because of the various statements that were made openly and now it could be destroyed in other ways.

"I feel it would be appropriate that Tun (Dr Mahathir) exercises more caution in making statements because we don't want the demise of Umno, the destruction of Umno, and the deregistration of Umno that occurred during his leadership to be repeated in another form," he told reporters after attending for the first time the Information Ministry Monthly Assembly at Wisma Radio, Angkasapuri in Kuala Lumpur Friday.

"I fear that Umno will sink further after it first began to sink during Tun Dr Mahathir's reign when Umno was deregistered," Shabery said. He was commenting on the criticism made by Dr Mahathir who claimed that members of the Umno Supreme Council now were afraid to voice their opinions to convey a message to the top leadership.

Responding to Dr Mahathir's criticism that the present breed of supreme council members dare not speak up to convey a message to the party leadership, Ahmad Shabery said during the former prime minister's leadership many regulations were imposed including a resolution passed at the Umno General Assembly that there should be no contest for the president and deputy president's posts and several other "difficult" regulations.

"There was no contest (for president and deputy president's posts) after 1987 but now he is saying it is undemocratic. The Malays have not forgotten all these things but maybe Dr Mahathir has forgotten. "I am sad to talk about all these things but the openness in Pak Lah's era should not be taken advantage," he said.

Bernama reported that at one time, he said, Umno supreme council members cannot be challenged in their divisions and they also cannot contest. Division chiefs in Kelantan cannot be opposed when Dr Mahathir was the state Umno liaison head, he said.

Ahmad Shabery said the former Umno president had also reminded delegates to the Umno General Assembly in 1997 that any criticism about the party and its leadership can only be made through the party channel, via branches, divisions and the supreme council and not outside the party. (MySinchew)

*****************************************

Yes, the first act by the newly installed Minister of Information is to embark on a campaign of smokescreen and disinformation. This is a typical strategy of distraction, which an accomplished strategist like Mahathir himself normally uses. When you have a pain in your leg, get someone to hit your head with a hammer. The pain in your head would distract you from the pain in your leg. It is not that the pain in your leg has gone away. It is just that the pain in your head is greater than the pain in your leg so you focus on the pain in your head and you get distracted from the pain in your leg.

Okay, for purposes of argument, let us agree that it was Mahathir who was instrumental in introducing the ‘no contest for number one and number two’ rule. And to make sure it would be difficult for anyone to mount a challenge, it was also Mahathir who introduced the ‘30% nominations from Umno divisions’ quota. This would mean Mahathir is guilty as hell and was the culprit who ‘killed’ democracy in Umno.

Then, let us put Mahathir on ‘trial by public opinion’ (because there has been no Registrar of Society laws broken and you can’t actually get the police to arrest him or the Attorney-General to charge him for this ‘crime’) and pronounce him guilty. So we now find Mahathir guilty as charged. But then there are a few things wrong here.

First of all, after Mahathir left the scene, Umno refused to reverse his ‘violation’ or ‘crime’ of ‘killing’ democracy in Umno. In fact, Umno upheld the ‘no contest for number one and number two’ rule plus also upheld the ruling of the ‘30% nominations from Umno divisions’ quota. Why did Umno not wipe the slate clean and erase the Mahathir ‘legacy’ so that democracy could be restored in Umno?

Secondly, Umno always defends its President cum Malaysia’s Prime Minister by arguing that one man does not make the decisions either in Umno or the government. All decisions made are made on a collective and unanimous basis by the Umno Supreme Council and/or the Cabinet, they keep telling us. In that case, why is Mahathir now blamed for all the ills and wrongs in Umno and the government? Many a time we have heard Ministers and political leaders argue that the party President and/or the Prime Minister should not be taken to task for any shortcomings because the entire ‘team’ came to a particular decision and supported that decision.

Are they now saying that what we alleged all this time is true -- that one man and not the entire Supreme Council or Cabinet made all these wrong and unpopular decisions? You can’t one day defend your leader-in-office by saying that the decisions were collectively and unanimously made and then, once he is out of office, you turn around and say that he and he alone made all the decisions. Are we therefore also right in accusing Abdullah -- on the advice of his family -- of making the decisions in Umno and the government all by himself? Or will this allegation only be true once Abdullah is out of office and not be true while he is still in office?

Okay, let us assume that Mahathir is the dictator everyone makes him out to be and that he ruled the Umno Supreme Council and the Cabinet with an iron first and single-handedly made all the decisions -- while everyone else in the Supreme Council and Cabinet actually disagreed with these decisions. Did anyone protest? Did anyone resign? Did anyone speak out against these decisions? Did anyone wash his/her hands and distant himself/herself from the decisions? In fact, what everyone did was to speak up in support of Mahathir’s decisions and publicly and openly state that they support the decisions and that the decisions were unanimous and got the support of the entire Supreme Council and/or Cabinet. The fact that everyone stood behind Mahathir and publicly endorsed him and declared that the decisions were collectively and unanimously made makes everyone, and not just Mahathir alone, guilty of everything that Mahathir is alleged to have done.

Soon after Abdullah Ahmad Badawi took over from Mahathir on 1 November 2003, they proclaimed a new era of clean, transparent and democratic governance. Abdullah even led the congregation in prayer to demonstrate that he is the true imam that they claim him to be. No Prime Minister before this has ever led the congregation in prayer. And to ensure that no one misses this wonderful scene, they splashed photos and video-clips of Abdullah leading the congregation in prayer all over the newspapers and TV. This perception of a ‘New Deal’ resulted in Barisan Nasional garnering almost 92% of the seats in Parliament in the 21 March 2004 general election.

Malaysians were promised sweeping changes. After 22 years of Mahathir’s less than transparent regime and rule with an iron first, Abdullah was a breath of fresh air. But the sweeping changes never came. What happened instead was that a new set of cronies was created and they ‘swept’ in a mere two years what took Mahathir 22 years to achieve. They set themselves on turbo-charge, overdrive mode and did more damage in a mere two years what took Mahathir 22 years to do.

Then, also in 2004, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah announced that he was going to make a bid for the Umno Presidency and Umno, in turn, announced the ‘no contest for number one and number two’ rule. Umno also upheld the ‘30% nominations from Umno divisions’ quota. Sure, Mahathir may have been the culprit who had introduced these rules but Umno refused to abolish or amend them but instead defended them to the hilt. Why can’t these ‘undemocratic’ rules be removed? Why can’t they undo all the ‘damage’ that Mahathir had created? Why can’t they restore democracy in Umno, which had been eroded by Mahathir? Why use all those iron-fisted rules, which had been introduced by Mahathir, instead of reforming the party by discarding all those things Mahathir had done which is damaging the party and which makes a mockery of democracy?

Forget about Mahathir. Forget about what Mahahir did. Mahathir is no longer in power. Those currently in power must prove that Mahathir is everything they say he is by dismantling Mahahir’s ‘legacy’ and by restoring what Mahathir had eroded. But they are not doing this. They blame everything on Mahathir. After declaring that it was a collective decision, they now blame the entire thing solely on Mahathir. But they refuse to undo what Mahahir did. They still uphold the rules that Mahathir introduced, which were meant to deny any challenge to the Umno Presidency and Deputy Presidency. And they use these same ‘undemocratic’ rules of Mahathir to prevent anyone from challenging Abdullah and Najib Tun Razak.

Okay, so Mahathir is a slime-ball and scumbag. Mahathir is a dictator and undemocratic. Then remove what Mahathir introduced. Restore Umno to what it was before Mahathir ‘destroyed’ it. By upholding Mahathir’s policies, it only gives an impression that Mahathir is right and did no wrong.

Yes, there is currently a smokescreen and disinformation campaign going on. They are hitting us on the head to make us forget the pain in our leg. This is nothing but an exercise in distraction. And the new Minister of Disinformation is the man tasked with the job of distracting us and with the job of leading us up the garden path of disinformation. And if you don’t believe me then take at a look at these two issues, which have captured the attention of the entire mainstream and ‘alternative’ media.

First let us look at the Director of ACA issue. It is being alleged that Mahathir blocked an investigation by the Director of the ACA. Was this so? The then Director of the ACA was investigation the Secretary-General of the Economic Planning Unit, which comes under the Prime Minister’s Department. The Sec-Gen of the EPU complained to his boss, who also happens to be the Prime Minister, that the ACA was rude and abusive and that the so-called investigation was actually a witch-hunt and political persecution.

Now, this may sound hard to believe, but I have a lawyer friend who was representing the Director of the Commercial Crime Division and they arrested him on the eve of Hari Raya, manhandled him in his office in front of his staff, handcuffed him in a very rough manner until they injured his wrist, and threw him into the lockup for the night. And the whole thing was on trumped-up charges of not replying to a letter whereas he had replied, but not the way the ACA wanted.

So, yes, the ACA is capable of doing such things and it appears like they still do that until today. Anyway, since the Sec-Gen of the EPU comes directly under the PM’s Department, Mahathir called the ACA Director to enquire into the allegation that the investigation was mala fide.

Mahathir, in fact, did the same thing many times in the past. For example, in the Abdullah Ang case, Mahathir summoned the IGP, Tun Haniff Omar, to ask whether Abdullah Ang is really guilty. Haniff confirmed he is. Mahathir asked whether the police had the evidence. When Haniff also confirmed that the evidence was overwhelming, Mahathir replied, then do what must be done.

Abdullah Ang went to see Mahathir and, down on his knees, cried and grabbed Mahathir’s leg and asked for help. Mahathir replied that it is now a police case and they have evidence of wrongdoing so he is not able to lift a finger. This was Mahathir’s ‘best friend’ but still Mahathir would not intervene and Abdullah Ang went to jail (though there is another story of what happened after he was sent to jail).

Anyway, back to the Sec-Gen of EPU story. The ACA Director, who was summoned to explain the facts of the case, shouted at Mahathir and stormed out of the room in a huff. Mahathir was shocked and totally speechless. This was the Prime Minister and yet the ACA Director had the gall to scream at him. Mahathir did nothing though. He did not demand the ACA Director’s resignation. The Director, however, dropped the investigation although Mahathir did not demand that he do so. Why did he drop the investigation if there was evidence that the Sec-Gen of the EPU had committed a corrupt act?

Okay, let us look at another case. This one involves the sacking of Tun Salleh Abbas, the Chief Justice. The story being spun is that Mahathir ordered his sacking and Zaid Ibrahim, the new ‘Minister of Law’, wants to resurrect the case and make an issue out of it. But did Mahathir really sack the Chief Justice?

What happened was that the Chief Justice had a home next door to the Agong’s and His Majesty’s house was under renovation. The Chief Justice was displeased with the noise and pollution and he wrote a letter to the Agong with copies to all the Rulers complaining about the matter. The Agong was upset with this insolence on the part of the Chief Justice. Writing a complaint letter is one thing and could be forgiven since this was a genuine grievance -- though an audience would have been the correct protocol instead of a complaint letter -- but to copy the letter to all the Rulers smacks of pressure.

The Agong was outraged and demanded that Mahathir sack the Chief Justice for this insolence that tantamount to misconduct. Mahathir, however, replied that he does not have the authority to sack the Chief Justice and that this can only be done through a Tribunal. The Agong then commanded (titah) that a Tribunal be set up, which was to report direct to His Majesty. The Tribunal found the Chief Justice guilty of misconduct and sent its recommendation to the Agong, who then removed the Chief Justice.

Hey, Mahathir is guilty of many things. One thing he is guilty of is for detaining me under the ISA, arresting me under the Sedition Act, arresting and handcuffing my wife, and the beating I received in the Dang Wangi Police Station at the hands of Bakri Zinin in front of my wife. I would certainly like Mahathir to pay for these crimes. But I am not about to make him pay for crimes he did not commit. And if he is guilty of destroying democracy in Umno, then the present leaders should dismantle everything that Mahathir did. But they refuse to do this. They accuse Mahathir of many breaches and violations and accuse him of destroying democracy but they still uphold all those rules imposed by Mahathir, such as no contest for number one and number two and the 30% nominations ruling.

Umno is embarking on a smokescreen and disinformation campaign. They want to distract us from the real issue, the impending hot contest in Umno to oust Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. They want us to focus on Mahathir’s wrongdoings so that we do not look at what is about to happen in Umno. We can deal with Mahathir later. And let us also not forget that Abdullah is using all those undemocratic and iron-fisted rules imposed by Mahathir to cling to power and to prevent Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah from challenging him later this year.

That is the real issue.

Yes, forget about Mahathir but never forget his misdeeds. Especially now that he is trying to be a kingmaker in the persons of Razaleigh and son Mukhriz.

Yes, forget Mahathir but remember never to support people whom the dictator is trying to push or force the people to elect/have as PM and leaders.

Yes, forget Mahathir and Umno and reject all politicians whom he is trying to promote.

Yes, forget Mahathir and remember what he did to our beloved country. We will not be fooled again.

Never underestimate Tun Dr Mahathir. He did not rule over Malaysia for 22 years without some smarts.

Don't have to worry about the distractions and smokescreens. Mahathir is infamous for staying on message, and is not easily distracted.

I figure that if the ultimate aim to change the PM to someone smarter, then we back the person most likely to help the process along. And, that is Mahathir.

If you are a Pakatan Rakyat supporter, you would want Bodowi to stay longer. That would certainly ensure complete victory in the next round.

If you are supporter of a better Malaysia for all, before we run out of oil, then you support whoever can get this done (although the means would be most unpalatable for most people).

Actually, I believe that Mahathir is in overdrive on this issue because he senses that DSAI has a good chance of being PM while he is still alive. And, he wouldn't want to live to see that.

I'd rather discredit Mad-hatter and his candidates for the UMNO Baru leadership, buy time (at some cost to the nation today) & let Sleeping Beauty buy some time to sink the fascists for good (after he tries to clean-out the old man's fascist goons).

At least the race politics championed by these goons should die.

Hopefully a new political culture will be born ......

PS
RPK,
You know very well that the "insolence" of Tun Salleh that you speak of was a smokescreen in itself, and you use it as a "reason"?
You say that is the past .... so sweep it under the carpet?
Come off it lah ..... Hitler also did all his job "legally" when Hungary was the first to legislate against Jews.
It was all so pretty and legal, alright. That doesn't make it right.
In fact adolf Eichman and the others were tried at the ICC despite their very "legal" actions!
At least Hitler was decent enough to commit suicide - some people in Bolehland speak of their crimes with pride. ( ...and some others help sweep it under the carpet under the "smokescreen" of wanting to unseat some others).

Until the members of UMNO Baru admit the immoral actions of the past, they cannot move forward - nor can the nation.

The past needs to be acknowledged if we wanna move forward - and you know very well what that means.
The current admin has to be pressured to admit the past & change and/or die ..... that's all.

There is a problem here, Peter. There is another Mahathir by the name of Mukhriz who may do his best to keep the Mamak effect alive. How can the judiciary be cleaned up without dredging up the Mahathir era?

Hey Peter,

Can we have a copy of this letter? First time I am hearing of this. Usually, the Sultan just smacks the guy, and one of those incidences was used by Mahathir to curb the powers of the Sultan.

Impossible to believe without evidence. Sorry, its like the purported SMS from Patrick Lim. If the Agong cannot stand up to such treasonous solicitations, then why should the man in the street obey the law????

I thought the current Agong brooks no nonsense, and stood up to the Prime Minister (Badawi). What prevents him from summoning the IGP?

Some times a story morphs into a fairy tale.

There were so many articles/comments before this echoing about Malaysian Judiciary in 1987/88 no longer independent due to the executive interference... What we have done is vote BN out. Do we want someone to come in and start the Melayu Ketuan again? I would say UMNO and BN are becoming history. They got themselves into this mess. Let them sort it out. How they stab each other in the back is irrelevant to us. How they conduct themselves up to the next election will help us decide how we vote. This is the pragmatic outlook.

Well said bunda,
I would rather see Pakatan Rakyat form the government after 30 April 08 rather wait till 2011/12 when oil runs out.

There are still Rm80bil x 5 yrs = Rm400bil to be channeled wisely. First class education, healthcare, working towards zero inflation which means much cheaper basic needs (water,food,shelter).....

Coming to UMNO crisis now,I believe Pak Lah 'loves'the job more. Still want to cling to power. Who diesn't want? Can have a huge 'palace' to live in. Outriders to clear the road for him to drive.
To top it all, private jet to fly round the world frequently.

If Pak Lah really wants to save UMNO and country, he should offer his resignation right away. TDM's mouth would be shut and ends all complaints. Now at the moment of political uncetainty, look at our KLCI which is dropping while others are going up. Investment is not forthcoming. All because of the uncertainty.

Subsequently, Salleh Abbas, as chief justice and seen as protector of law and order, certainly had words on that case. I dont think it was solely TDM to blame. And the rest was history.

Well, apparently RPK is now 'falling in' with mahathir. If its true that its becoz of TSA's non-protocol action, how come 5 other judges were supended too? That alone is enough to show that that is not the reason.
The sacking of TSA & the Supreme Court Judges who granted an order restraining the members of the tribunal appointed by the acting Lord President to give advice to the King pending further order, has besmirched the independence of malaysian judiciary forever.Prior to his sacking, Tun Salleh was heavily criticised by the Executive for being bias in a case involving the tussle within UMNO. TSA gave instructions on may 24 1988 to appoint a panel to hear abt umno's civil suit, called UMNO11.On may 27 TSA reported that he had been suspended from exercising his functions of High Office with restrospective effect from 26 May 1988! You can read all this at http://www.malaysianbar.org.my...ciary.html

Why didn't umno members undo what mahathir had wrongly done. That seems to me a very naive question, coming frm RPK. Has there been any instance on or off record to show that umno members will amend or oppose previous umno's stance, it'll be done only if it is to their benefit. They never want to rock any boat... always play safe. You should know that.

Btw, that EPU Sec Gen was the one found with solid rm10,000 cash in his office when ACA made a raid on him, wasn't it.

'Forget abt Mahathir. He is history'... you say. We cannot forget mahathir... for his big sins & more so for leaving behind his legacy of grafts, cronyism, nepotism, crucification of judiciary, of humiliating & stamping his rivals... the list goes on & on. Alot of us wish he is history but his constant statements prove that he still wants to be on the playing ground. I can still remember reading his letter asking Tuanku Abd Rahman to resign. He became the next PM!

Sacking a High Court Judge is major business, much more so the Lord President.

To say that the sacking of Tun Salleh Abbas arose out of unneighbourliness really beggars belief. Granted, we all know who the Agong was at that time. And also granted; let's assume that Mahathir's hands were clean and tidy in the Tun Salleh episode. But this assumption can only gain some credibility if the following could be cleared.

1) Why did the powerful Mahathir go along with the Agong's request, if there was such?
Mahathir himself was spinning some facts and fiction against the Royals.

2) Why did the then Registrar Haidar steal the Supreme Court seal to prevent the Supreme Court
from convening in its attempt to save Tun Salleh?

3)And why were those 5 Supreme Court Judges also subsequently sacked or suspended? Was it
also at the Agong's or Mahathir's behest?

4) How would you classify the consequent Chief Justices viz: Hamid Omar, Eussof Chin and
Haidar who were all chosen by Mahathir? Are you telling us all these things are just incidentals
and do not fit into Mahathir's dictatorial programme?

Yes RPK, I can see that you're highlighting Abdullah's diversionary tactics. But putting Mahathir's involvement in the judiciary in its proper perspective is also important for the judiciary's revival, though it can be done later.

Another side question, RPK. Would you mind enlightening your readers on why you've been naming Tengku Razaleigh for PM since a year ago, though it all seems possible now. Can Umno Baru really be cleansed by anyone?

UMNO Baru has been repeatedly raping Malaysians ever since Mahathir became its first member. The rakyat has had enough, and are not crying out for more ever again. MT readers are no nymphos, many thanks to you, RPK. UMNO Baru must be ridded of all 'rapists' and put on probation in the opposition bench. The rakyat needs a restful closure sooner rather than later.

In our political world and smokescreens, nobody throws them as good as the old dog TDM.

TDM reminds of this movie creature called the THING, it's a creature which needs to survive by whatever means possible at the expense of anybody else. When he attacks BADawi, don't for a moment think that he is doing it for the good of the country, he is only trying desperately to save himself. When Anwar got released from prison, he knows that accountability for his past actions will come back to haunt him one day. When he senses mounting public pressure in that direction, he throws his smokescreens by attacking BAD left, right and centre. He is only like the THING trying desperately to survive at cost and he is looking for linkups with people who could ultimately protect him from any future investigations into his past.

For that reason, the THING,Dr M aka TDM is a threat to national security and should be dealt with first. He should never be allowed to link up with any 'host' who could protect him from being investigated for his past wrongdoings.

BADawi, on the contrary, should be dealt with later.

Yes. Forget mahathir. He will be dealt with sooner or later, by mere mortals within us or The Almighty himself.

We just cannot see the forest for the trees. What really matters is now. What matters is the future, the future of our children and their children. Can mahathir's past misdeeds, or even mahathir himself, ensure this country will be run fairly and justly? No. We need to shove him aside for the time being. You guys who have unfinished business with mahathir, take a number and wait in line, and sit down. We have far, far more urgent things to do, to straighten up. Today and for the next forseable future, the task is about removing dollah badawi, removing umno and removing bn. We need to install OUR people, people who really serve the rakyat, our pakatan rakyat.

We need to be sharper and more intelligent in dealing with the smokescreens , spins and deceptions. (For the moment) it does not matter why Tun Salleh Abbas was removed. It will matter later, but not now. It does not matter why and how the powers of the royalty was allegedly curbed. It will be reviewed later, and these things cannot be done if the idiots of umno, whoever they are, are still in power. We need to get our priorities right, and offering your views about why this is so and why that is so only serves in the best interest of umno, playing into their hands and are just what they need to buy time, take a standing count while clearing the head from the big punch we have given them last month. We need to move in for the kill, the sucker punch, the knockout. We cannot do it by still discussing past deeds, past history and offering intellectual views about why and how things had happened in the past. Please la. we've only done half the work. For instance, Mahathir used ISA extensively to detain political opponents. A good example is, Mahathir used ISA to detain you while Abdullah didn't. I am sure so far, none of the police gave you a beating similar to the one you received during Mahathir's reign?

But I agree with your reminder. Whatever it is, Abdullah should reverse and make amendments for all the excesses and abuses from Mahathir's era when he has the golden opportunity in 2004 with 92% control of the parliament. He failed and there is no excuse.

I feel that this argument of yours is weak. You are attacking UMNO's allegations on Mahathir which are minor.

We know why UMNO is prodding Mahathir at the moment and it is simple - because Mahathir is flocking them even harder! It is a political warfare - UMNO is grabbing at straws because they are suffering from bombardments in all possible corners. They are playing whatever cards they have in their hands. This is the bigger picture.

UMNO's accusation of Mahathir are like a pinch next to Mahathir's continuous barage of Knockouts after Knockouts.

UMNO's integrity is being wilted away far faster than Mahathir's which is ironic. UMNO is manned by incompetent and corrupted officials.

Dear little dragon and others, please list down all the bad things that Mahathir did which Pak Lah has reversed (changed, erased, ended) over the last 5 years since coming to power.

Dear RPK,

Since you asked, and I am just making a guess not knowing the real truth but just from what we could see. Hope you could tell whether its right or wrong.

1. Released DSAI from jail and acquitted him from sodomy charges.
2. Allowing/tolerating more dissenting voices from the people which has made the current political scenario possible. (Actually M'sia is more democratic since DSAAB came to power)

I wish you could tell more about the renovation story. Most people here are not buying it.

Hell, why even bother about the future. Let's go punish all those who messed up the past.

Your reasoning would be sound in most cases, except that in this case he who messed up the past is now rocking the boat with sufficient force presently (despite lack of executive power) in order to chart the future.

The biggest tragedy will be if the Mahathir camp took advantage of this situation (and the very freedoms he denied others) to come back into power.

It will be the height of rather unsurprising irony when certain opposition party members, a handful of bloggers and civil society movements who are lending legitimacy to Mahathir end up thrown into the ISA as the first order of business when Mahathir's camp returns.

Those who dance with the devil are eventually going to end up with his pitchfork lodged deep up their bottoms.

One more thing to keep in mind is this:

Despite his idiocy, arrogance, and corruption, Badawi (and the UMNO that he leads) still managed some basic level of decency by accepting relative defeat in as best a "gentlemanly" manner that UMNO/BN is capable of.

Contrast that with Mahathir's response for a lesser defeat or loss of face post-1999. He responded by eventually trying to cripple Keadilan and the reform movement by arresting their top political operatives under the ISA on trumped up charges of molotov cocktails and rocket launchers.

That should give you the idea of what manner of a cockamimi banana republic dictator he is and why he should be consigned to the garbage bin of history never to be heard from again.

Wow,
this write up makes Mamakthir almost innocent for his wrongs in his 22 years of communism practice. Wow, what did Mamakthir do to you RPK that he is almost innocent! Pak lah is bad and they are both bad. Both are devils and it doesn't matter which is worse, but please don't insinuate Mamakthir is almost innocent, he is one of the worst kind and Pak Lah is quick at learning it without realising it is already obsolete, we are smarter today with the advent of internet!!! So, the Mamakthir application practice by Pak Lah is at a wrong time, so he is fu)k! The smoke screen is not gonna help, UMNO members will condemn each other to their early demise...nature will take its course!!

So, giving Mahathir the benefit of the doubt by pinning the judiciary crisis on an irate royalty, let's look at a Top 10 list of some other Mahathir related issues:

1) Protected his blue-eyed boy who happens to be a rapist, by throwing Lim Guan Eng into jail. (Bapak of Rapist Protectors).

2) Tried and prosecuted Anwar in the press and the world stage, even to the extent of physically describing and mimicking alleged homosexual acts, a charge which has now been dismissed. (Bapak of Lies) - as an aside, I guess being a homosexual is worse off a crime than raping a minor in Mahathir's book of "Asian values".

3) His top attack dog beat Anwar into a pulp and Mahathir claimed Anwar brutalized himself. (Bapak of Bullies and Yet More Lies)

4) The suspected arsenic poisoning of Anwar which occurred under his watch as PM (Bapak of Gestapo Methods)

5) Promised Dong Jiao Zong to look into Chinese education matters prior to elections, but then reneged after the elections and sent his attack dogs in UMNO Youth (headed by another mamak) to threaten to burn down the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (Bapak of Arsonists)

6) Hiked up duties on non-Malaysian cars, promoted the AP system, all so that the majority of Malaysians will be forced to drive sub-quality Protons in order to preserve his nationalist ego. (Bapak of Crony Capitalism)

7) Responsible for the majority of religious tensions today due to his adapting of religion as a political tool and single-handed undemocratic declaration of Malaysia as an Islamic State. (Bapak of Bedouinism)

smilies/cool.gif Gave away as a gift to his friend Mugabe, millions worth of prime Malaysian timber. (Bapak of Thievery and Keeper of Bad Company)

9) The list can go on...but here's the one achievement to cap all his previous ones: Bapak of Bodowi's Ascendancy to Power because of lack of democracy in UMNO during his two decade stewardship.

Mahathir, therefore, has no legitimacy to be making a ballyhoo about reforms and democracy, especially when its so obvious in its nakedness that he is doing it for no other reason than to save his own wrinkled hide.

Should he so much as raise an eyebrow, he should be smacked down and humiliated to shut him up. Badawi, in fact, should throw this guy into jail under the ISA for being a threat to national security.

But in a way, perhaps his kicking up of a fuss may work to the country's benefit. Because when PR does come into power, Mahatir will still be fresh in everybody's memory and we can then him up on his offer to have him investigated by a foreign agency (10. Bapak of Big Mouths and Unintended Consequences).

Might I suggest the Mossad.

Good morning everyone. Just wanted to let you all know that Umno's strategy of focusing on Mahathir to distract Umno from the Pak Lah-Ku Li fight appears to be working - going by most of the comments above. Ku Li has launched a campaign to abolish the nominations from 30% of Umno divisions rule and he is calling for an EGM on 11 May. Pak Lah and gang are of course resisting this. Umno must be made to realise that this is Mahathir's rule so the rule must be abolished.

Democracy needs to be restored in Umno first before it can be restored in Malaysia. This is because Umno is running this country. That should be our focus as well. Either we support the move or else Pak Lah may step aside and Najib-Rosmah takes over. Better Ku Li, I say. Another thing. They will soon launch a campaign to allege that Ku Li is a 'Chinese lover'. This is to pupuk Malay nationalism. I take it you Chinese bloggers can see the danger of playing the Malay-Chinese card in the present Umno power struggle? Stay focused. We have bigger fish to fry.

By the way, Anwar Ibrahim also supported the 30% rule when he was in Umno after using the ten bonus points per nomination rule to oust Ghafar Baba. He also used the rule to prevent anyone challenging him, including the no contest for number one and number two rule. Anwar never fought to abolish this rule. Should Anwar, therefore, also be put on 'trial' since we are digging up past deeds?

We have to be careful here. Some of what we want to hang Mahathir for are crimes committed when Anwar was his number two. That is why the focus must be the future of the country and not past deeds of the leaders or else Anwar too might have to pay for the crimes that Mahathir did considering that Anwar at that time stood by Mahathir on all issues, including the Judicial and Constitutional crises.

I agreed with RPK in this write up. We need to stay focus and support the move within UMNO to oust Badawi from his throne. I know some of you guys would love to see UMNO and the rest of BN die a natural cause but remember the infighting in UMNO is going to effect us whether you like it or not since they are the one holding the PM post at the moment. We need a strong and visionary leader to lead us facing the uncertainty in the global market. Read the news, US is in a recession mode no matter how good they try to paint the picture. It is a matter of time before it hit our shore.

As for me, I don't want to see Bn totally disintegrated. We still want them to become a strong opposition to PR come next election. Remember absolute power corrupt. So we want a check and balance in place.

Dear shamadz72, as they said more than 200 years ago in America: why do we want to remove 1 dictator 10,000 miles away and replace him with 10,000 dictators 1 mile away. Our objective should not be to destroy Umno-BN. Our objective should be to create a two-party system with both almost equally-strong and well-balanced. That would be the only way to guarantee that the rakyat would get the best deal - when both equally-strong parties are fighting for our support-attention.

Now we want Ku Li to lead UMNO and instantly everything is honky-dory. Faster than cooking Maggie mee noodles, UMNO is no longer tainted (the whole million/s of them) and UMNO together with their lackeys (magically cleansed as well) will now govern M'sia into a state of Utopia.

Grow Up Malaysia.

50 years have gone by and yet Malaysia is still under racial issues. How many years did US take to be non racial whereby the so many ethnics , like English, Germans French, Italians, etc etc that make up the US now they have only 2 major parties like the Demo and Republican and lesser Independent to via for the Presidency. Why cannot the parties like UMNO, MIC and MCA dissolved itself, are we not matured enough or the MIC and MCA changes its name first and take in Malays as members so that the parties members can become the next PM or MB, as this already happened to DAP in Perak by not putting a Malay candidate in their seat in Perak. So to speak even in UMNO to change its name and to accept non Malays into their party. This will then make politics more interesting as the participants in an election will be represented by all parties and the best men wins, just like before the MCA,MIC together with UMNO before forming the alliance, this way the representation of the popular person will be taken in to be the MP and the runner up to be the state rep. i.e. MCA, MIC and UMNO rep won by the total majority votes when they add up to be the MP and the runner up to the vote counts per party member be the ADUN. In this way the party they represents can be the PM or MB.To suggest a party change of names like MCA be Malay Chinese Indians Alliance, MIC to be MICA and UMNO to be United Malaysian National Org.,.then only will there be no talk on race parties.About the opposition leave them out to talk over themselves. From this implementation there might be some snag on the composition of ethnicity in the area but then it depends on the party whom they put their candidacy. When forming the government and the minister we leave it to the state representatives to pick up the next PM with the consent of the KING..

little dragon,

How to lay off the old man if he is the one behind Ku Li, or Najib or whoever. Nobody says Anwar is spared from his wrong but he did go to jail for six years, don’t we think the old man should at least get half of it let says three years?

I don’t know who is behind Tuesday Umno gathering but I saw the old man and his son was there, so how could we ensure if Badawi step down and the new replacement don’t have to go through the same route….dealing with the old man, we rakyat and all the pirates around him?

We must ensure this old man is irrelevant and to do this, we should keep on reminding everyone what he did to Malaysia, and whoever that get closed to this old man would have zero support, no other way. By doing this, maybe we could have the true bi-party check and balance system.

As for the Malay Nationalism, sorry, we already make a choice and there is no turning back for at least the next 5 years, it is up to the maturity of the rakyat to handle this situation.

To move forward and promote integrity of rakyat, first rakyat ourselves must awaken (which most of us did, luckily), then the political party will move away from racial-based. So long as there's diminishing support from the voters, the political party will have to re-adjust itself or becoming more and more 'irrelevant'.

Democrat & Republican in US, Labour & Conservative in UK, are based on ideology instead of racial and religious issues. They fight for how a government should be governed, instead of 'who' and 'skin color' or mosque or church.

Clearly, Malaysia politic is moving into this direction. Which is good.

Smokescreens and disinformation: a distraction of issues??? What's new? smilies/grin.gif

Isn't this also the staple of all BN owned media? Tis one of the oldest tricks in the book YM Raja. BTW Bush thrives on this too. OK OK back to our own situation

You may be right to a certain extent on this "Whether Abdullah stays in office or gets ousted will be what will decide our future." But is TDM really "history"?

Forgetting what he did when he was in power is a tall order. Furthermore, his current rumbunctious clatter is still very much part of the present and even the future. Don't forget that TDM is a master mind-controller. I am hoping he can dig a deeper grave for UMNO with his verbal diarrhoea, though.

What is scary is if AAB goes, TDM reagains control, Najib gains power and Mukhris climbing the ladder. Our future can still be re-charted even if AAB goes and not necessarily in the Pakatan Rakyat way.

I am in no way an AAB supporter. Just for the record, there is more democracy within UMNO now than ever with AAB -- not only the people "voted" a lot of BN out but more UMNOites are speaking up.

I am not sure if I got this right: did I understand right in that you think UMNO must not be allowed to die? I beg to differ. UMNO is a gang of arrogant selfish, racist gold-diggers. smilies/grin.gif smilies/grin.gif

I know you will probably rebutt with - which politician isn't? Why do I say UMNO must go? Because race based politics -the 50 year old "divide and rule politics of Malaysia"- must GO.

Teknologi Yang Semakin Canggih

a) they are for KETUANAN MELAYU in Malaysia i.e. DSAI (or Tok Guru Nik Aziz) for Prime Minister;

and

b) they respect the central and important role of ISLAM in Malaysia i.e. please vote and support Parti SeIslam Malaysia (PAS).

Taktik Baru Muncul Kini

Contoh yang terbaik ialah surat This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it untuk para reformis berdemonstrasi.

UMNO lost its lustre when its president, Dr Mahathir, was challenged by Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah in 1987 a disputed election where political skullduggery and behind-the-scene manipulations ensured the challenger was defeated. Many believe to this day the winner in that election was not Dr Mahathir but Tengku Razaleigh. Dr Mahathir was returned by 42 votes, but after an unexplained sudden blackout and ear-shattering music amidst the counting. When order and light was restored, the pile of ballot papers in Tengku Razaleigh's favour had miraculously shortened. Tengku Razaleigh would not be drawn into the controversy. "I lost, and a loser should not raise issues that shows him out to be a sore loser," is all I could get out of him despite asking him about it several times in the 15 years since. The bizarre High Court decision to declare UMNO illegal followed from that election.

It seems that many non-Malays in PR has been overjoyed with the winning of PR in the last election and started demanding a lot of things such as MB post for Chinese lah, 2nd deputy MB for Indian lah etc. This has cause a lot of dissatisfaction among Malays who have voted for PR candidates. (I knew it based on the feedback I got talking to lots of my Malays friend who have voted for PR). If you guys continue to play along this racial line I won't be surprise if BN took another gamble by calling for a new election by dissolving the parliaments in June and I wouldn't be surprise if UMNO can even win enough seat for them to govern the country alone (since the election boundary at the moment is very much in favour of UMNO).

As for me, I would rather prefer we don't take a drastic approach for changes, since it is a tradition that Malays lead the MB post in some of those state. So let it be, as long as that person is fair to other races and can initiate the changes that we need (remember the case of black cat or white cat?). Looka at the US, it takes them 200 years after their gain their independent for them to start to have a Black candidate for its Presidential post. So we also need to give sometimes before we can go along that line.

Sorry Ku Li, you will never make it to the top of the heap if you talk like that, i.e. of making UMNO trusted by the other races. UMNO only admires leaders if they talk of steamrolling over the other communities, discriminate against the other races, do not give in an inch to what the other minorities want, and last but not least, bathe their keris in Chinese blood, and treat all other minorities as pendatangs, and tell them to leave if they are not happy with things done UMNO's way.

Sorry, Ku Li, you will soon be sidelined for such views. Remember, even UMNO's strongman, TDM, had to act as the supreme racist and sidelined the Chinese until they could hardly breathe, to remain on top for 22 years. BN has hardly any meaning. BN is actually UMNO. UMNO never think of BN as their party. They only think of UMNO as the supreme party ruling the country.

Power sharing? They only use this term come election time, or when they scold the other component parties.

No man should be humiliated like you were, especially in the presence of his wife!

I am truly sorry for what you had to endure.

You have given us the name of the man who humiliated you. Now we know who he is.

What I do not understand is WHY you gave us the identity of this person.

Forget about Mahathir. He is history
======================================================= =============

Hmmm - so, at what point are we going to get this old goat to be accountable? The Nuremberg trial was held to prosecute the Nazis? Did anypne try to ask them to forget bout Hitler, Rommel etc?

Nixon took responsibility for Watergate. The old goat - will he take responsibilty for Lingam Gate?

Can we afford to "forget" about TDM? How can we, when he is still trying to move the pieces on board in the Malaysian Political Chess Game? Is he trying to remain "forgotten"?

This guy - who many now believe had a role in the affairs of 13/5/69; this guy, who's the real master mind behind VK Lingam & Tun Salleh Abas' sacking; this guy, who used Petronas $$ to bail out his son whilst other business men were left to suffer in the aftermath of 97 financial crisis; this guy - who for years, had the nation believing that Soros was responsible, but last year shook hands with him and then said it was all a misunderstanding?

Political chameleons don't come any better than Mahathir

Malaysia, though not a super-power, can be proud that it closely resembles the world’s leading democracy and only super-power.

Like the United States, our democracy allows us to be spoilt for choice in choosing our top dog, 30% quota notwithstanding. The Americans have Hollywood actors, greasy Texan liars, Indonesia-born frauds, etc. We can boast of witch doctors, family-first Bodowis, Al Gorey chameleons, Keristians, Mongolaysians, and the like.

In the on-going turd-throwing contest post-March 8, we should SERIOUSLY examine the resumes of the three leading actors, as appropriate in any job interview.

The Witchdoctor
(Job application submitted on behalf of proxies)

1. Did a kangaroo court on Salleh Abbas and dismantled the judiciary.
2. Did a Nicky Leeson in tin and currency trading.
3. Went AWOL when Mustapha invaded the Sabah governor’s residence.
4. Fathered a Bumi entrepreneur class polluted by Dimes and cronies but didn’t particularly enrich himself (comparatively – I don’t really know)
5. Passionate nationalist with a single-minded agenda for the nation.
6. Poker-addict who played the race card with reluctant restraint.
7. Slapped Harry Lee quite a few times, deservedly.
8. Colour-blind foster father of Eric, Vincent and Anaconda.
9. In 22 years, built more skyscrapers than penitentiaries.
10. Repeated a kangaroo court on a power-hungry Chameleon.
11. Pegged the US dollar to the Ringgit to sabotage the American Dream.
12. Monster masquerading as backseat media mogul and arms-length dictator.
13. Likes to fart in a Westerly direction without apology.
14. A true champion for sticking hard things up Western orifices.
15. Likes dissidents who say yes behind his back.
16. A 20/20 visionary who never planned for his retirement.

My family-first Bodowi
(Job application submitted on behalf of his family)

1. A dyslexic who says “I don’t know” for “I don’t care”.
2. Took refuge in the mountain tops after 2004 GE landslide.
3. Considers he is God’s gift to the foolish masses.
4. Enjoys Australian curries while watching Johor floods.
5. Has frugal tastes – prefers catching ikan bilis to bullsharks.
6. A poor man – had nothing but the national wealth for KJ’s wedding gift.
7. A moderate who makes molehills out of mountains of crime and looting.
8. Not superstitious about having a fourth floor in his palace.
9. Being Mr Clean, has a fetish for cleaning up Trengganu’s oil spills.
10. Swears by his personal commandments in public office.
11. A peace-lover who avoids conflicts of interest with Patrick KJ Lim.
12. Favourite song – “I never promised you the rose garden”.
13. Famous saying – “There must be something if PM says Anwar is a sodomite”.
14. A modest man who has no time for face, facts or figures – I’m here to stay.
15. Let the Genie out of the bottle to fight the Witchdoctor.
16. His 4-year CV is nauseously longer than the Witchdoctor’s 22 years.

The Chameleon
(Job application submitted on behalf of himself)

1. Ex-crony of selfless philanthropists like Daim Zanuddin.
2. Was so poor and hungry that he could only feed himself with power.
3. Hop-step-and-jump champion athlete from ABIM, PAS and UMNO.
4. Now coaching Sabah politicians in the same athletic discipline.
5. Speaks Bahasa Melayu but not Bahasa Malaysia.
6. Apprenticed with BN for 18 years to lead the Opposition.
7. Race and religion were never his passion – only his platform.
8. Suffered a setback when preparing to contest US presidency.
9. Inclined to provide aircon cells for ISA detainees when he was DPM.
10. Several years ago, almost colour-blinded by thuggish ex-IGP.
11. A committed opportunist seeking opportunity for all the races.
12. Has no CV because he was a mole for reform “within the system”.
13. Solid on integrity – wouldn’t have jumped if hadn’t been shoved out.
14. 18 years with UMNO produced a clean slate of achievements.
15. His ex-mentor is the devil and he’s the deep blue sea.
16. DSAI’s creed: It’s not that I love Malaysia less but that I love Anwar more.

The Witchdoctor at the very worst is a monstrous dictator with his own passionate agenda for the nation, whacking his opponents mercilessly but saving his best shots for the evil monsters of the West.

The Chameleon is a hypocrite but at least he takes People Power seriously.

Bodowi shits in the people’s face, legitimising KJ and broad daylight looting by a whole legion of cronies - BN (especially UMNO) looters have taken his cue and have gone totally out of control. Bodowi’s character is beyond redemption.

To paraphrase an old poet – “There is something rotten in the state of Malaysia”, and to Bodowi we say “Out, damned spot, OUT”.

The best defence is a strong offence and this sandiwara by UMNO getting Ku Li and The Mad Hatter to be the scapegoats, is using exactly this strategy. We must NOT fall for it.

Although the crimes committed by The Mad Hatter and his cronies against Malaysia and its RAKYAT are many, we need to take a leaf from Nelson Mandela's book, and tolerate these plunderers while we concentrate on wresting power to govern our beloved Malaysia !!

Only by concentrating our efforts in ousting the BN Govt. now and taking over can the RAKYAT hope to chart its future, so 1st things 1st !!

Once we have succeeded in ousting the Pretenders to the throne (BN has less popular support than PR !!), then we need to abolish the ISA, and the PPPA, and re-vamp the whole Judiciary. We also need to set up an Ombudsman as watchdog for basic human rights, the present Suhakam being manned by BN's stooges.

Then, we go after the plunderers and all they have plundererd form hardworking RAKYAT like you and I, and then it is PAYBACK time for The Mad Hatter and his cronies ALONG with Bodohwi and his cronies as well.

Bodohwi has shamelessly used the fortress that The Mad Hatter has built to remain in power in UMNO and to keep his minions under control. He has done absolutely NOTHING for the RAKYAT, but sleep at meetings !! At least The Mad Hatter developed the physical infra of Malaysia etc.

The Judiciary if what Pete said is true was sunk by that idiot of a Johore Sultan in his capacity as the Agong, but The Mad Hatter should take some responsibility for letting such a travesty to take place instead of protesting it ! He, too, wanted Tun Salleh out so he could do what he liked about the Judiciary and he just went along with that idiot in Johore (who killed a golf caddy with his golf club). No brainer.

Some bloggers here credit Bodowi for ALLOWING DISSENT – quite forgetting that Bodowi is bodowi when he chooses to be and not when he chooses not to be.

You just wait. First the UMNO cybertroops will mobilize and UMNO/KJ dirty tricks dept will get into overdrive - planning. When the attacks will actually start is hard to say – right now, the looters can’t afford to commit suicide by wrecking the economy by starting a crackdown by starting a conflagration by starting a May 13 repeat.

Bodowi never used the knives he inherited from Mahazalim because the 2004 landslide made him think he would be immune from bloggers and the rakyat’s fury. And KJ would have thought so too and advised that if Bodowi resorted to a hammer to kill mere ants, it would wreck the rosy looting environment. Only now they realise that the ants are fierce karangas, but after March 8 it’s just too dicey to use the daggers and hammers– for now. But just you wait till IF AND WHEN things “settle down”. He may be bodowi but don’t under-estimate his killer instincts – how else could he have become PM?

This ex-civil servant cum supreme political survivor has always been SMUG by nature, bolstered by his image of himself as Mr Clean and Mr Popular. But he’s also a KILLER by instinct – when he can, he lets others do the killing – witness his skills in the Mahathir-Anwar fratricide and the Mahathir-Razaleigh death-match.

If and when the time comes, Bodowi and KJ are going to be more zalim than Mahazalim. Right now, he is BUYING TIME.

As RPK and others in this thread remind us, the REAL SIGNIFICANCE is Bodowi did NOT undo any part of Mahazalim’s terror machine (or crimes), keeping it like the sword of Damocles. The only undoing Bodowi did was to let the Genie out of the bottle to counter the inevitable Mahazalim attacks that this pretend-bodowi had clearly foreseen.

If we assess his 4 years in power (and Malaysia’s future prospects if he and KJ are not removed) from any other perspective, we are COURTING disaster.

Do not IMAGINE that the next GE will give people power another chance. – the UMNO dogs will be hunting with their kerises. I think DSAI knows this too well, as an ex-sodomite convicted by a kangaroo court - and that’s only just the gentler way of dealing with dissidents. If you can’t imagine or believe what else these monsters are capable of, just read more of RPK’s enlightening stories.

Yes, forget Mahathir or we will be under-estimating Bodowi at our imminent peril.

******************************************************* *************

does that mean just bcos Tun Salleh Abas complained and he deserved to be sacked? Agong's titah. no i wonder whether our sultan/Agong would one day misuse their power? i understand with all this constitution written about our local rulers. my personal opinion, when with absolute power and not challengeable, then we might have situation of non-total democracy.

I still remembered when Dr M announced that Pak Lah (that time I still called him Pak Lah) be his successor, I was so overwhelmed by emotion and grateful that for once Dr M has made a good decision!

When Pak Lah (still Pak Lah during this period), he acted quick on Corruption Issues (the media were speculating more Buaya are going to be arrested) and the Reforms on PDRM & etc. People had seen a new light of Malaysia's future............. That's the reason BN almost has a clean sweep on the last election!!!!

That probably gave a false impression to Abdullah........ and SIL KJ................. The ABSOLUTE POWER has leads to his ABSOLUTE CORRUPTION! Malaysian are let down deeply and dissapointed since then!

I believed most of us understand the facts that actually sinked BN, but it seems that Bodohwi certainly has a different opinions.... He just keep blaming without looking at himself what he has done and what he has not done for the county and the people!

(Probably he can blame us on this mandate which subsequently may bring to his downfall!)

The Asian Wall Street Journal reporter, Mr Rapheal Pura's sworn statement that the influence-peddling lawyer, Dato' V.K. Lingam, wrote part of Mr Justice Mokhtar Sidin's judgement in the Tan Sri Vincent Tan v MGG Pillai & Others case creates shivers down the spine of lawyers and laymen alike. Dato' Lingam's frienship with the Chief Justice, Tun Eusoff Chin, with whom he goes on holidays, is well known. Several important questions arise from this. Could it be possible Dato' V.K. Lingam helped in writing judgements in other cases where he appeared side? What guarantee is there this is an isolated occasion? Equally important, what guarantee is there that Mr Justice Mokhtar Sidin had had his judgements written by other lawyers in other cases? Can a litigant appear comfortable in an appeal -- Mr Justice Mokhtar has since been elevated to the Court of Appeal -- in which he sits with others known to be friendly with Dato' V.K. Lingam? Worse still, if Dato' Lingam appears on the other side, can the litigant hope for justice?

Excellent write-up, FFT.

Why didn't AAB get rid of Mahathir's sins? An obvious answer would be that he couldn't do it, not with the Tun's cronies around him. A mouse by nature, he would avoid confrontation like the plague. That was why everyone, from his ministers to the Klang multimillionaire state assemblyman, felt free to do what they want. That was why he told the Gerakan CM to solve his problems with the lowly UMNO divisional leaders. That was why he left it to Kerismuddin to take care of Mukriz's recent insubordination. He has never been a leader, much less a proactive one. And he can never be the kind of brutal dictator that some people here are suggesting. It's only when DrM and company are openly baying for his blood that AAB has finally fought back, and that too in a very mild fashion.

So is AAB a bad leader in not rolling back Dr.M's destructive legacy? Yes. Is he a weak leader in allowing corruption, cronyism, and nepotism to continue? Yes. Is he a cruel, immoral person like many around him, and even those not around him, like his predecessor? NO!

Now that he's under siege, he might - just might - try to fight back, like the proverbial mousedeer. If in the process of fighting back he manages to right the wrongs of the previous regime, that would be a plus. Chances of his doing so would be greater if the Opposition would help, give him guidance and moral support, and cooperate for the good of the nation. Anwar's experience would be crucial for all this to happen.

We really don't need or want to see the former crooks in power. Fool us once, shame on you. Fool us twice, shame on us.

I would certainly like Mahathir to pay for these crimes. ///

Some people here suspect this whole article itself is one giant smoke and mirrors.

Let me think out loud. RPK used to be on DSAI's side. Then out of the blue, be "switched" to TDM's side. Can a leopard change its spots so easily?

TDM has done many wrongs. But only one main transgression against RPK personally - the ISA related case quoted above. Could this "crime" be heineous enough for RPK to bear a lifelong grudge against TDM?

Could RPK be as Machiavellian as TDM? Could RPK be playing reverse psychology? The Devil's Advocate? Knowing that many people here still have not forgotten and forgiven TDM for his numerous sins, it does not take a mischievous genius much to pretend to say good things about someone whom the audience hated so much to bring forth the vitriolics. Dear Readers,
I still remember the disgusting campaign of "Terima kasih TDM" when the Maha-firaun finally left in 2003.The Govt/UMNO took the Rakyat to be idiots because there were so many messages in support of this campaign. By right,Mahafiraun should have Thanked the Rakyat instead for allowing him to hoodwink us for 22 years and enrich his family & cronies in the process.Imagine People thanking him for destroying the Independence of the Judiciary, abusing the ISA for political interests, creating Megaprojects that drained the coffers of the Country in order to create "instant Bumi millionaires",removing the journalistic freedom of the media and many more!!!

The Rakyat who fell for this campaign certainly deserve to be treated like Idiots for being duped into thanking this former dictator! Now we can see that he is trying to install another puppet as PM because the current puppet refuses to play ball with Mahafiraun & Gang. Will Malaysians ever think for ourselves or allow the Govt or the media to manipulate us into falling for more scams in the future? TDM even refuses to acknowledge his many mistakes but expects us to listen to more crap that comes out from him about the leadership. The Mahafiraun himself would have imprisoned any leader who spoke against him (when he was in power)like what he is doing openly now.So lets give him a taste of his own medicine by sending TDM on prolonged vacation in the Kamunting Detention camp for him to reflect on his past misdeeds!!!Melayu mungkin mudah lupa tetapi RAKYAT MALAYSIA akan tetap tidak lupa zaman diktator Mahathir!!! Operasi Lallang detainess and other ISA detainess will forever remember your legacy!!

Alternating currents
--Palden jenkins

Communication signals thus travel down two separate wires, speaking separately to different parts of our psyches. "Osama bin Laden has evaded detection, and we don't know where he is." Hidden message: "Osama helped us justify invading Afghanistan and, now it's done, we no longer need him".

Keep your antennae up, because official statements betray hidden messages. This is problematic. We need to see through propaganda and disinformation. But education and civilised living teach us to overlook our deeper knowings, disbelieving our instincts and 'uncanny feelings'.

'The media defend freedom of speech' - no they don't, they set out to make profits and serve their owners' interests. Freedom of speech is not a licence to offend, oppress and demonise people.

There's a deeper problem: values and judgements change over time. Old beliefs can be invalidated. Today, growing numbers of people no longer consider warfare, slavery, violence, pollution or fanaticism to be acceptable - yet they were accepted not long ago. The tables turn, and formerly respectable people suddenly turn into criminals and suspects.

This is fine, but today's public hectoring and pillorying can also conceal enormous collective hypocrisies: it is easier to blame a bad guy than to change society and quit demonising. The public needs to take responsibility for its shifts of feelings and blame, with less projection on public figures. Accusing others does not clear us of our complicity.

Smokescreen to Inflation

The reality of inflation is that governments steal money from their citizens with absolutely no intention of repaying that money. They can do this to a great extent because most people cannot add up and because governments can project draconian force. You might note that economics is not taught in schools. Adolph said, “what joy it is for the leaders that the public are stupid”. In Mein Kampf, he lays out plans to ensure that the eastern nations that he intended to colonise/enslave, were kept uneducated. Economics, or the understanding of money, is one of the fundamental skills that are essential for any citizen who is to aspire to freedom. Once the public understands money, the manipulative power of government is greatly reduced.
