The Malaysian Insider

KUALA LUMPUR, March 31 – The fight to drag Anwar Ibrahim into a political mud-fight began yesterday when Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad went back to his playbook of 1998 and accused the de facto opposition leader of being a stooge for foreign powers.

Unlike 10 years ago, Anwar is not likely to be perturbed by this attack. He will not take the bait and will dismiss his one-time mentor as someone whose relevance to Malaysia has passed.

Anwar knows that he does not need to get into a street fight, as he is viewed by many Malaysians as the man who is ushering in a new dawn for the country while Dr Mahathir is seen as part of the old landscape.

Also, Anwar does not need to score points with Umno or convince them of his fitness to lead. If anything, it is Dr Mahathir who has to audition for their support as he sets about to force a change of leadership in Umno.

It was vintage Mahathir yesterday. He described Anwar as "a man of many parts", someone with a forked tongue.

"When he talks about Islam, Muslims will think he's a champion of Islam. When he is with the Jews, the Jews love him. When he is with the Muslims, the Muslims love him. When he is with the temple groups, they love him too.

Everybody loves him. He is a convincing orator… If the Malays are willing to kowtow to the foreigners, then they can choose this person,” he said during a question-and-answer session after he opened the annual general meeting of Persatuan Melayu Tanjong (Penang Malays Association) here yesterday.

When someone in the audience wondered whether Anwar stood a chance to be the next prime minister, Dr Mahathir suggested that he would make a “good prime minister of Israel”. This was not a shot in the dark as the former PM knows that Muslims here have great animosity with Israel over that country’s handling of the Palestinian issue.

When the former prime minister sacked Anwar Ibrahim from the party and government 10 years ago, he repeatedly accused his one-time protégé of being a lackey of the West, especially the United States. But the difference between then and now is as stark as night and day.

This was evident at a recent seminar on the elections at Universiti Utara Malaysia. Among the panelists were Penang deputy chief minister Dr P. Ramasamy, PAS politician Mujahid Rawa and deputy minister Saifuddin Abdullah.

Saifuddin had a tough time getting his points across as he was booed consistently by the young audience.

Dr Mansor Mohd Noor, a political analyst who was in the hall, said: “There has been a change in the political environment in West Malaysia. Malaysians want to know about the vision of this country. Any attempt at character assassination or personal attacks will not go down well with the public. The focus is on integrity, good governance, just policies. If you cannot articulate all this, then your relevance is limited.’’

He noted that voters, including Malays, were upset that the Barisan Nasional attacked Anwar a few days before the polls as an untrustworthy politician.

Many people believe that he was the wronged party in 1998 and had 6 years taken away from him. Calling him a foreign agent will be like selling an old newspaper. And not a credible one,” Dr Mansor.

Still, he believes that Tun Mahathir is attempting to show the Umno rank and file that only he has the fire in the belly to take on Anwar. His pitch – though old and out-of-date with many Malays – could find support within a party searching for a leader to stop the seemingly unstoppable march of the Anwar-led opposition.

Certainly. BN did that during PRU12 and was burnt naked. Old man only add salt to injuries and drive the final nail into BN coffin.

Dato' Anwar, don't answer him. Invite him for Nasi Kandar lunch, give me the bill. Let him see the years of hatred dies with him - we the younger generation do not have to shoulder the sins of the past, especially mahathir's sin.

I am getting more and more pissed off with this non-stop talking old man.

Dr.M is the main cause of the shit hitting the fan today, like it or not.

His unprofessional attempt to overthrow Anwar has be widely exposed.

He should just keep quiet and prepare to meet his maker.

Weather Anwar is a foreign stooge or not, he certainly have better caliber them the whole cabinet (which Dr. M groomed and left us with) put together.

So to Dr. M, just shut up!

We Malaysians need to progress. BN has set us back 50 years. No more!

If Mahathir is righteous and with wisdom, his comments about Anwar will carry tremendous weight. The problem with Mahathir is that he is not righteous and his 22 years of ruling had produced plenty of corrupted and incompetent leaders. The more he condemns Anwar, the more people will support Anwar.

Mahathir has nothing to gain by play down Anwar as he will be our PM soon.Mahathir will suffer so long as he cannot get over his ill feeling towards Anwar.

M's WORLD

To this M, everyone else that does not follow his stupid ideas and prescriptions is an idiot, liar or some one else's lackey.

To this M, everything that is wrong with this country is some one else's fault.

To this M, the century old Malay Dilemma is still someone else's fault.

To this M, the 50 year old Malaysian Dilemma is also someone else's fault.

To this M, we were all born less than 5 years ago.

Is it because he dreads the day Datuk Seri Annuar becomes PM?

What more damage can Mahathir do to Anwar?
He jailed him, got him beaten up, got him demonized by the media.
In the UMNO assembly he was called a traitor to the Malay race. He was called a US-Zionist agent, a sodomite etc.

It is Mahathir who will catch fire .... by his own rage and fury.

Men of his age, while approaching their graves, will repent of their sins and turn to God to prepare for the hereafter. But this evil old man does none of that. May God help him.

That's because his message is universal and transcends across the petty factional bullshit that is synonymous with Mahathirism.

This is something Mahathir cannot achieve.

The only response Mahathir can ever get across racial boundaries for his incessant ramblings is hearty applause from Robert Mugabe, Fidel Castro, and Matthias Chang.

Hopefully DSAI will made an impacts after mid-Apr'08 and before the UMNO presidency election to change the Government and ended all this nonsense once and for all. He is truly an old fox playing the seasoned tricks of covering his wounded grounds being laid bare by the the chain of events, such as the sacking of the Judges, and his high handedness of his 22 years of maladminstrative policies.

Everyday he will make excuses and find opportunities to give public speeches, and press releases - just to keep Malaysians and his enemies on the toes, diverting their attention, embarking on smoke-screens to cover his past misdeeds.

Truly a shrewd and cunning politician to the core. Take heed day in and day out he will keep on bantering, bitching and telling the world about his virtues. The film event in Holland is outdated and has already been commented much earlier before him. He wants to distract the attention of the Muslims, seemingly to champion the Islamic cause.

Truly a cunning fox all right.

But the mass media and politicians in Malaysia should cast him aside and pay no heed to his comments. He is a spent force.

What a pity, he still has a big mortal ego - he has actually lowered his statesmanship.

Dear TDM,
With all due respect, please refrain from making damaging comments against those who are vying to save Malaysia in whatever ways possible from the irony of BN and especially UMNO rule, a major part of which was due to your doing in the past.
The degrading of UMNO and BN is not something new and it is contribution of all leaders before AAB with a major part attributed to you.
I admit you have lead this nation well despite having some shortcomings yourself and stern steps taken to diffuse any attempts to dethrone you during your reign.
Now I believe it is time for Malaysians themselves decide who will lead this nation into the future. We thank you for your kind contribution for the past 23 years and we will cherish that, but please don't tarnish your own reputation further by commenting on future leaders to be.
Let us decide, you decided once before, and we lost 4 years of valuable time in developing our beloved nation.
Let us decide, for better or worse, who will lead us.
That way we will bear responsibility for our choice.
Hope my humble request will be heard and adhered to.
I have utmost respect to previous leaders for as long as they remain positive and detached.
We the rakyat, will no longer be ignorant and choose disastrous path, and people and leaders do change and we expect that of Anwar.
There are other possible leaders who could establish themselves and lead the nation in the future, but for the moment, we should make do with the limited choices that we have.
Thank you

Well, keep your fingers crossed. I heard a rumor that they are preparing a cell for him at Kamunting.

Following which will be prosecution for a series of high profile crimes while in power. The Linggam tape was merely the tip of the iceberg that was revealed. Everything else will come in due time.

This is precisely why he's blowing hot and cold with all these preemptive attacks and character assassination by trying to paint his opponents (both in UMNO and in Opposition) as foreign agents. So that when the time comes, he hopes that Malaysians will rally behind him as a victim of foreign conspiracies. He must think we were born yesterday.

The moral of the story is what goes around comes around, and his history is about to catch up with him.

Good thing he got his pipes and valves fixed recently. I'd certainly like to see him live a long and healthy many more years so he may enjoy the fruits of justice that are about to be delivered to him.

The blatant wastage and sad state we are in now after 2 decade of tremendous economic growth, is testimonial to this. The average salary in 1990 = 2007.

Sometimes i wonder the last 2 decade of economics growth are reserved solely for who?

I am still f**king paying toll that is signed 10 years ago or more.

As for you old fart, your time in the jail has moulded you to become a monster. Selfish, abusive, arrogant, racist, chauvinist and hatred is writen on your face and believe me you will only be remembered as that in our history books eventually.

On the contrary, DSAI has become wiser. Indeed he saw the light in between those 6 years. He knows that god and angels are with him. He knows the BR is with him. How many comments have you made so far Dr.M? Did you see any response from DSAI? All you ever get to see is more and more bashings. You can count on that.

At 81 and still unrepentant? Tun Mahathir, most people at this age would seek penance for their sins lest the Almighty calls their number anytime.

You had caused so many hardship to many Malaysians and even after undergoing a second heart operation, still unrepentant. What's the use of attacking Anwar now. You had had your time. We don't believe you anymore.

We are for Anwar now, so take a back seat Mahathir.

The time has come that we need to revisit the original Constitution and honour all the pledges pertaining to the multi-racial, multi-religion, multi-cultural and multi-lingual society.

The one man who has contributed to the Judiciary crisis in the 80’s and the Lingamgate drama in the 90's will not apologise or repent for any of the wrong doing, simply because there are legal and statutory consequences. The extensive amendment to the Constitution was possible when some Rulers were weak due to their tainted past resulting in one man taking the opportunity to force a one-sided compromise.

Anwar may forgive this very man who manipulated the situation and punish him for not agreeing to some of the wrong doings. However, Anwar may allow the law to take its natural course on the man who has ruled the nation with the iron fists and hands. At a grand old age, it is difficult to serve time in the prison for sure and the possibility is real.

The perception that a Tun cannot be prosecuted may not hold water in the world of openness, transparency and governance. If the Agong and Rulers can be prosecuted if they flaunt the Constitution or the Laws of Malaysia, then it is not true that a Tun is beyond the law.

The winds of change are blowing and unstoppable at the moment. The renaissance is here for all of us to see. The nation must bring the culprits to justice, and get back the plundered wealth and money to be used to the positive development of the social economic landscape.

Anwar must refrain from the emotional outburst and keep his cool to be the paramount leader of Malaysia, and lead the country through his reformed leadership to a better future. It is time for this country to grow up and ensure that the poor and needy of all races be attended to in order to bring about peace, harmony, happiness and prosperity.

The old man may be history but he is trying to ensure UMNO Baru is not into self destruction leading to the formation of UMNO Baru 2. He must understand that racial politics may not survive the test of time anymore. Look at what happens to MIC, MCA and Gerakan. Need we say more.

It is time for the citizen of Malaysia to stand up and be counted to bring about the much needed social justice.

This man, who gave himself a Tun on the last day of work, was resposible for much of what we suffered over the last 40 years (yes 40). In the last one-third of his reign, he was undoing much of his earlier policies. Eg. (a) English language (b) Buying back companies he had privatised after they became bankrupt. Now he wants his own UMNO Baru rules undone.

It is sadder that this website and others spend so much time paying attention to him. Remember the refrain of a certain judge in a famous case: Irrelevant!

mahathir is reading d ground very well n is acting accordingly. he knows dat d prospect of d bn losing hold at d federal level is every umno member's worst nightmare n he is simply playing on their fears to d hilt.

i really doubt he is interested in battling anwar, not at this time anyway. to begin with, he knows dat without a party n government machinery at his disposal, he is severely handicapped n won't b able to achieve much except shout from d fringes. his jabs at anwar right now is simply to assert his legitimacy as d only one person in d world who can tame him n hope d grassroots will fall for his bull.

anwar wud do well to avoid any direct exchange to deprive mahathir of d attention n audience he now so desparately needs. all anwar has to do is just tai-chi away any jabs d old man might make n belittle him as a powerless has been.

in umno, powerless has beens do not amount to much.

This old nut used to hang around in koolie's office in the good old days. After office, koolie would take him to the bars, and buy him drinks. He became PM after helped Tun Razak usurp power from Tunku. Then , betraying his promise to have koolie appointed deputy PM, he stabbed koolie in the back TWO times. He made sure koolie would never become PM. Yet today he is supporting koolie to take over from Pak Lah! Don't be surprised that when the knives are out for him when the people throw out BN, he will be begging for help from the new PM, Anwar Ibrahim, who he says will never become PM today. We will remember him again then.

This bitter old fart should be pitied rather than condemned. After a long and less than illustrious career at the helm of the country, instead of retiring gracefully had seen it fit to embarass himself repeatedly. As a citizen of the country I almost felt ashame of his constant verbal diarrhea. Initially directed at Badawi and now Anwar.

In the hierarchy of needs by maslow the highest reaches of men is to leave a legacy. After a person has everything he wants there is a strong psychological need to leave a legacy. As it is the legacy this old fart is leaving leaves much to be desired. He seem to be universally despised. He seems to believe that if he repeats a lie long enough people will start to believe him.

He should have followed the advice of another old fart south of malaysia when he visited him and gave him advice on how to write his memoir.

He thinks he is the smartest.
TDM had caused the money market to take a dive. All foreign money took a flight with his stupid remarks. He did not understand what hedge fund was all about neither he undestood the full mechanism of the money market.

He thought that pegging to US dollars was the only answer to prevent foreign attackt on the Ringgit. He was wrong. The Thais and the Indonesian currencies came back strong with IMF's help.

TDM destroyed the integrity of the Judiciary
TDM gave the police a free hand and corruption across the board in PDRM began with him.
Abolishing the tender system to favour his cronies and family had caused abuse and manipulation that diverted billions away from the deserving recipients of the NEP.
The UMNO quota system started by him and now he wants it abolished.

He was the cause of 3 DPMs ended their dream to become PM and he chose a sleepy head because he thought he can manipulate him further.

Quote"
Dr Mansor Mohd Noor, a political analyst who was in the hall, said: “There has been a change in the political environment in West Malaysia. Malaysians want to know about the vision of this country. Any attempt at character assassination or personal attacks will not go down well with the public. The focus is on integrity, good governance, just policies. If you cannot articulate all this, then your relevance is limited.’’

Well some of this OLD cork MF BN Politician still want to marginalised MALAYSIAN by saying "WEST" What the F**K we are all Malaysian why split.

We ALL Malaysian want to have a better VISION than 2020. To us the Vision 2020 is nothing but for BN leaders to envent the Gorvenance of making them RICHER. If not true go and see in any of the BN leaders have a property of less that RM5Mil?.

……..Old Man Jasin, 30th March, wrote very aptly-

At your age & fragile health , there is no point to bark at every moving shadow . Before you and I kick the bucket , I suggest you spend more time with your family members & help those poor & needy.

You will command more respect , even though during your reign you had offended & neglected many Malaysian longing for your help………….

Mr 10% MAHATHIR IS STILL UNREPENTANT VICIOUS CORRUPTED BASTARD TILL THE END

What is ****ing wrong with you , Mr 10%. You left your job 5 years ago after 22 years and you are still whingjng and whining like a wounded bull. You have had your time and season in governing LAWLESSLY, with billions ringgit bank scandals and cover-up, threatened and jailed opposition leaders without valid reasons, jailed your deputy, manipulated the shit judiciary for your own crooked means, played race against race, received many millions secret commissions directly or indirectly from armed equipment purchases, Pergau Dam (as reported in a British newspaper), set up your children with multi millions of contracts( without open tenders) and so on. Your Finance Minister Daim Zainuddin was and still is the biggest crook of Malaysia, with about 40 billion transferred overseas. Your ministers and officials around you, were pocketing trainloads of money and land; and you tell us you were clean.

DON’T PISS ON RAKYAT AND TELL US IT IS RAIN FROM HEAVEN. DON’T BERAK ON RAKYAT AND TELL US IT IS FOOD FROM HEAVEN.
THE CORRUPT MONEY YOU SIPHONED OFF IN ONE YEAR ALONE IS WORTH AT LEAST 3,000 YEARS OF A LABOURER’S SALARY. AND YOU LIVE 20 TO 30 YEARS LONGER THAN A LABOURER.
YOU HAVE TAKEN FOOD AWAY FROM THE MOUTH OF ALL RACES AND THE ROOF OVER THEIR HEADS.

Up till now, no one in Barisan has the ****ing guts to bring these people to justice and get the money back. Because every one of you was and is involved in the massive massive massive robbery from all rakyat.
You, the Godfather of the biggest crooks, showed how corruption is done at the top down to the office worker.
By clawing at Badawi, you have the motive of pushing up the ladder your cronies Razaleigh Hamzah, Najib and your son, Mukriz and indirectly protecting your family’s illicit assets against the honest PAS,DAP,PKR state govts. You are shit scared of Anwar Ibrahim because when and if he becomes PM, he will expose the ways how you, draculas sucked the billions from Malaysia.
Your 3 sons had done very well while you were PM. They are directors of about 200 companies and have interests in at least 100 companies.
Compared to Badawi, you are an obnoxious, unremorseful, cruel arsehole.
Rakyat are happy you are not PM otherwise, by now, you would have put leaders of PAS,DAP,PKR, BERSIH, HINDRAF and bloggers under ISA and give them black-eyes, create racial riots with the excuse of using the corrupted police and army to hang on to power to satisfy your psychopathic nature.
Of all the PMs, you have done the most damage to Malaysia.
You had 22 years of limelight, so **** OFF.

He can melt all those listening to his speechess. If you put a few pebbles inside an empty can and shake it what will you get? All noise but nothing else. Cannot blame for those who think DSAI is an ideal leader. Not sure how close these people are to DSAI. But as far as I know , during his tenure as DPM, beside Azmin Ali, the rest of the staff just dont lke him. The same when he was Minsiter of Education. Anyway we pray that he changed and repented. If not, dont be surprised Malaysia will soon become the 53rd state of USA! But always remember..nobody's perfect . Whether it is DSAI or TDM or whoever they are including us that make comments here.

Dear Tun,

I was you die hard fan for a long time. You were my hero once. But now I despise your actions.

I will never forgive you for what you did to DSAI.You charged him in court for sodomy and corruption. You jailed him.Now the same court, which at one time was under your tyrinical control, has acquitted him of the sodomy charges.Tun, let me ask you,how could ever sleep knowing that he is innocent of the charges. How can you repay him and his family for the humilation they have suffered? How much the wife and children suffered from the public humilation? He lost his career and the whole world came to know the baseless accusation.

As far as I know, a true muslim, will never humilate any human being.Even if the accusations were true,it was a private matter between DSAI and god.Why do you have to play god? There are a lot of people out here who have committed worse crimes and still holding top post in the country.Since you are so free now why dont you go around and catch them. The worse part is you are still keeping on saying things about DSAI.He has shown that he is really a man by not stooping low to attack you.

You say that he will be a pawn in the hands of foreign powers. Why this hypothetical blame? What I suspect is,you fear that should he become the PM,he mightl take revenge on you and your family.Come on Tun!!I dont think DSAI is such a man.God willing, if he becomes the PM,I strongly believe that this country will be very prosperous due to increasd FDI's.He will out do you in terms of developement.Just watch!!

Tun, stop blaming Pak Lah for this mess. You laid the foundation for this.Yes! I blame you too.It was yor choice to make him the PM.You are now advocating for Najib,to be the PM. Do you really think he is a good choice, with all the scandals?NO!! It was your policy that made this country so racially divided. You created the UMNOputras who have taken advantage to the extent of depriving their own muslim brothers. That is the reason why even the malays voted for the BR.

Sorry to say Tun,try to keep you dignity and the respect that you have thus far earned.Next,in Islam forgiving and asking for forgiveness is a virtue. be a good soul and apologise to DSAI and his family. Then, hopefully Allah will forgive you too.

This Tun is as cunning as ever! Now that he has no shoulders to lean on,he would take the opportunity to attack DSAI. With UMNO in total disarray,by hitting DSAI left and right,he is infact trying to fit into the vaccum hoping to make a come back. Once DSAI assume the ultimate goal as PM, he will be just like anyone of us! Better stay at home and take care of your self and live a little longer to see whats in store for near future Malaysians!
