(The Sun) PETALING JAYA (March 30, 2008): Members of Parliament (MPs) and assemblymen from non-Barisan Nasional (BN) parties should be allowed to attend and officiate at school events, said National Parent-Teacher Association Collaborative Council president Associate Professor Datuk Mohamad Ali Hasan.

"As long as the politician does not politicise or use the school premise for political objectives, then they should be allowed. There are bound to be a 'grey areas' and that the Education Ministry should come up with a guidelines soon.

"They can be allowed because they are elected representatives of the people," Mohamad Ali said, adding that MPs should not be deprived to attend official school functions.

"MPs are peoples' representatives of constituencies and schools are a part of the  system," said Mohamad Ali, who is also Transparency International Malaysia deputy president. "MPs are part and parcel of activities conducted in constituencies, including schools."

"What's wrong with MPs attending school functions. There should not be any 'double standards'."

Mohamad Ali: "We are waiting for the ministry to issue the guidelines. I am hoping  the guidelines are issued soonest, to be fair to all."

Last week, acting Penang education director Ibrahim Mohamad told theSun schools in the five states controlled by non-BN parties have been verbally adviced to take a neutral stand in inviting executive councillors or assemblyman for official functions, for the time being.

He said the directive was issued by the department after being advised by the Education Ministry.

Deputy Penang Chief Minister II Prof Dr. P. Ramasamy said there were rumours schools were given verbal instructions not to invite state executive councillors for functions. He said he had asked State Secretary Datuk Jamaludin Hasan to investigate whether such a directive existed.

In Selangor, Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim has sent a letter to the state Education Department asking for a full explanation on the matter.

Today, it was reported that Education's Ministry director-general Datuk Alimuddin Mohd Dom was asked whether schools had been told not to invite or have dealings with politicians who were not from BN.

Alimuddin said an approval had to come from the state education director and the approval is subject to the discretion of the director, when asked if all politicians, including the Mentri Besar or Chief Ministers would no longer be allowed to officiate at school functions.

Education Ministry officials are UMNO goons. I know of countless cases where even UMNO divisional leaders (who are non-elected reps) had been invited to officiate at school functions.
These education guys have chicken brains. What can one expect when their minisiter himself uses the keris to prove a point.
Go on do what you wish till you are completely thrown out in the next general elections.

All these while the Teachers and Officers from the Education were forced to attend functions offciated by Kerismudin to show false support.

I congratulate all theachers who have voted for BR candidates despite the threat of "aku janji".

This kind of intimidation is expected only from people who have no brain such as the Minister of RM50 per screw driver.

ha ha ... the night the BN candidate lost in my constituency, I asked my wife who would the school invite now ?
And I know for a fact that a very senior officer from the district education office was very active in politics. He even seconded the BN MP's candidacy. And I thought it wasn't allowed. Well, maybe it is okay it's for BN and not for BR.

Well done, National Parent-Teacher Association Collaborative Council president Associate Professor Datuk Mohamad Ali Hasan.

Barring non-Barisan executive councillors and assemblymen from attending school functions in a way is good because it will hasten the downfall of BN. Keep on with the order and impose at your will and next GE will see BN totally wiped out for good. Good riddance!

Hishamuddin has run out ofideas. By stopping non-BN MPs or Adun from attending school functions, he thought that he is great, BUT IT GOES ON TO SHOW THAT BN ARE RUN BY FOOS LIKE HIM!
REMEMBER THAT BY THE NEXT ELECTION< BN WOULD BE HISTORY AND WOULD BE SITTING ON THE OPPOSITION BENCE.
REMEMBER TRENGANU HAS LEARNED FROM KEDAH< PERAK , Penang and Selangor. By next GE Sabah and Sarawak would have enough courage to change.

They say they listen. They say they will heed the message. Yet they don't seem to learn anything. Like the spoilt brats that they are, they are making one wrong move after another to further isolate the rakyat from themselves. Pitiful lot...their arrogance knows no bounds.

When I was a kid and in school we used to hear "you are not my friend anymore and don't want to friend you....and so on." Now my hair is getting white and I get to hear something similar. "What fun" or is this really funny??
Well done Associate Professor Datuk Mohamad Ali Hasan for being different!

I think this sort of childish behavior by the Education Minister, to the extent he is playing politics with the school system, should be reported to UNESCO so they can summarily dismiss him from their Executive Board, a position he holds until year 2011.

Here is the Contact Information for UNESCO to send your complaint to:

- General phone: 33 (0)1 45 68 10 00
- Fax: 33 (0)1 45 67 16 90
- Telex: 204461 Paris; 270602 Paris
- Website: http://www.unesco.org
- E-mail: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Be sure to send them an attachment of this photo of Hishamuddin threatening ethnic minorities in Malaysia with his dagger.

Among the stated goals of UNESCO:

UNESCO is working to create the conditions for genuine dialogue based upon respect for shared values and the dignity of each civilization and culture.
This role is critical, particularly in the face of terrorism, which constitutes an attack against humanity. The world urgently requires global visions of sustainable development based upon observance of human rights, mutual respect and the alleviation of poverty, all of which lie at the heart of UNESCO’s mission and activities.

I don't believe dagger-wielding, race-baiting, neo-Nazis quite fit into the mission statement of UNESCO.

i think it is hightime d PTAs play a more insistent role to ensure our national schools r reverted back to d institutions of true learning they once were instead of d training grounds for racial n religious extremism, intolerance n hatred they r today.

as such, i wud strongly urge all parents to report any abuse or statements by any teachers or school administrators n bring them to d public's attention so dat we may pursue disciplinary action against them.

As a former Naib YDP of the PTA, I fnd the MInistry's directive stupid. When had they politicalised the PTA?

I find this an insult. We PTA works hard for every student in the school and we remain as apolitical as possible. Of course we do need help from the political MPs all the time. If this directive is enforced, maybe Hisham can assure us that whenever we have function, or in need of fund, you or your ministry officers would be around to help us and to support our functions.
