(Bernama) -- The Perak coalition government, comprising Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), DAP and PAS, Saturday pledged to govern based on five principles that champion the well-being and interests of the people of various races and religion.
Menteri Besar Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin said the five principles were justice, trust, transparency, integrity and welfare. "The present government will act guided by the five principles. We want to be just in that if we see an unjust situation we will eliminate it. We want to act on the principle of trust," he told reporters after the swearing-in of 10 state executive councillors at Istana Iskandariah, here. On the principle of integrity, Mohammad Nizar said the state government will not stray from it to the extent that people saw the government as one that "only knew how to talk" but rather one that worked and administered. "We will also ensure the government has credibility and integrity. We will also fulfill our responsibility to provide elements of welfare. Any form of welfare, aid and benefits for the people will be made in the aspect of implementing policies. Whatever troubles and burdens the people, we will review," he said. On the portfolios of the 10 exco members sworn in today, Mohammad Nizar said the state government would make an official statement after a meeting on Monday. He said the allocation of portfolios would take into account the professionalism, experience, background and exposure of each individual. The make-up of the state executive council from the three parties is according to the agreement made at a meeting on the formation of the state government. The council has six members from the DAP, three from PKR and one from PAS who all took their oath before Perak Regent Raja Dr Nazrin Shah. They are Ngeh Koo Ham (Sitiawan), Nga Kor Ming (Pantai Remis), Su Keong Siong (Pasir Pinji), Chen Fook Chye (Keranji), Seah Leong Peng (Pasir Bedamar), A. Sivanesan (Sungkai), Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi (Behrang), Tai Sing Ng (Kuala Sepetang), Mohd Osman Mohd Jailu (Changkat Jering) and Mohd Zainudin Mohd Yusof (Lubuk Merbau). Asked what would be the first task of the new exco, Mohammad Nizar said it was to build up trust for the coalition government to dispel any negative views and frustrations regarding its ability. He said the exco must be given a chance to serve with the cooperation of all state institutions including public servants. The coalition government was formed after winning 31 seats in the Perak state assembly in the March 8 general election where the Barisan Nasional won 28 seats.
