Anwar or Ku Li? The race is on PDF Print

Active Image

Yes, it is certainly going to be a close race. Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah will make his move on 4 April while Anwar Ibrahim can make his only after 14 April. Then, Anwar can make his second move after 7 May while Tengku Razaleigh will make his on 11 May.

THE CORRIDORS OF POWER

Raja Petra Kamarudin

TAWAU, March 27 (Bernama) -- Kalabakan Member of Parliament Datuk Ghapur Salleh relinquished his post as Deputy Natural Resources and Environment Minister effective yesterday. He told Bernama today that he submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in Putrajaya last night. Dismissing talk that he would hop over to the opposition, which is said to be trying to lure several MPs from Sabah and Sarawak, Ghapur, who won the seat unopposed in the March 8 general election, said he would continue to be an elected representative and Kalabakan Umno division head. He is the second MP from Sabah and the third person to resign as a federal deputy minister since the election.

Umno elections could be postponed

Needing time to 'regroup' after GE, party may defer polls till next March

By S JAYASANKARAN, Business Times, 26 March 2008

ELECTIONS in the United Malays National Organisation (Umno), Malaysia's dominant political party that leads the ruling Barisan Nasional (National Front) coalition, are likely to be postponed because of the political uncertainty gripping the country. Umno officials say this was the impression they got after meeting Umno president and Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi on Monday. Mr Abdullah also told them the party needs to stamp out 'money politics' because that would only make the people angrier.

On March 8, the Barisan Nasional (BN) was given a hiding at a general election, losing control of five states and its two-thirds majority in Parliament. Originally, Umno was supposed to hold its elections in August. The party's constitution stipulates elections every three years for all posts from the president down, but also allows for deferment. In this case, elections must be held by March next year. Umno officials openly admit they never expected such a drubbing at the GE, at which voters from all the country's races, including the majority Malays, rebuffed the BN.

'The feeling now is that we have to unite and avoid any in-fighting because that could split the party,' an official told BT. 'For that, we need to time to regroup.' Whether this will happen is uncertain. Waiting in the wings is Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, 71, who is offering himself as an alternative to Mr Abdullah as leader of Umno and the government.

Tengku Razaleigh is a prince from Kelantan, founder-president of national oil corporation Petronas and a former finance minister under two prime ministers - Hussein Onn and Mahathir Mohamad. In 1987, he challenged Dr Mahathir for the Umno presidency and lost by a narrow 43 votes. Ironically, at the time, Mr Abdullah was on the Tengku's side and was one of the few on his team who made the cut as one of Umno's three vice-presidents.

Whether the Tengku will be allowed to challenge Mr Abdullah is the big question. After the 1987 elections, the rules were changed to make a presidential bid against the incumbent all but impossible. The rules now demand that a presidential challenger obtain nominations from 30 per cent of Umno's divisions - or 58 nominations. Asked recently about Tengku Razaleigh's chances, Dr Mahathir said he did not think there would be divisions 'brave' enough to support him openly against an incumbent prime minister. But in the present climate, Dr Mahathir could be wrong.

Political analysts say it would take only a few brave souls to speak up for a stampede to begin. And a trickle of support has begun. Over the weekend, 80 Umno branches in Muar, Johor, spoke up in support of the Tengku, who has asked for an extraordinary meeting of Umno to be convened to discuss the election debacle. Indeed, the postponement of the Umno polls could help the Tengku's cause, giving him time to canvass divisions across the country. That would help get his message directly to his audience, given his inaccessibility to the mainstream media which is resolutely pro-Mr Abdullah.

The Tengku could also be helped by repeated mis-steps on Mr Abdullah's part that suggest weak leadership. For example, the impasse over the Terengganu crisis could be resolved soon, but only with damage inflicted on Mr Abdullah.

Last Saturday, the state's Sultan (who is also Malaysia's King) appointed Umno assemblyman Ahmad Said as chief minister over Idris Jusoh, Mr Abdullah's nominee, who was also supported by 22 other state assemblymen. The appointment triggered a constitutional crisis. If Mr Abdullah's numbers were right, the Sultan acted unconstitutionally - a word Mr Abdullah himself used.

Yesterday, however, Mr Abdullah seemed to back down. He said he was seeking an audience with the King. And at a news conference, Mr Idris apologised to the King for 'everything' that had angered him. While Mr Idris maintained that Mr Ahmad does not deserve the chief minister's position, he seemed to throw in the towel, saying he would accept any position given to him.

*************************

Ghapur Salleh actually wanted to resign from Umno Sabah just before the 8 March 2008 general elections so that he could contest the election on a PKR ticket. Anwar Ibrahim, however, would not allow him to do so. Ghapur grumbled to his friends that all Anwar needed to do was to give the word and he, plus a few other close associates in Umno Sabah, would cross-over and contest the election under the PKR banner. Anwar, of course, had his reasons. He wanted Sabah and Sarawak to be the 'reserve team' in the event the opposition wins enough seats to form the federal government.

As it now stands, the opposition has won 82 seats in Parliament and all it needs is another 30 to give it a two-seat majority over Barisan Nasional. 30 seats would make the score 112:110, all that is needed for His Majesty to do what the Federal Constitution of Malaysia requires him to do. And what His Majesty the Agong would have to do would be to appoint a new Prime Minister from amongst any of the 222 Members of the House who, in His Majesty's opinion, commands the confidence of the majority of the Member of the House. It is certainly very 'loose' though clearly worded but the way it has been written gives enormous powers to His Majesty the Agong to interpret 'opinion', 'commands' and 'confidence' the way His Majesty sees it. Most important of all, though, is that His Majesty need not 'seek advice from the Prime Minister' but instead can exercise his 'own discretion' in arriving at 'his opinion'.

Isn't the English language just lovely? And that is what it all boils down to, so the legal eagles can just stay out of this whole thing and allow the English teachers to step in to help properly interpret what the Federal Constitution of Malaysia says -- which is written in the Queen's English anyway. And 'Queen' here refers to Elizabeth II and not Freddie Mercury who died of AIDS.

So, does Anwar have 30 Barisan Nasional Members of Parliament safely tucked away? No, he does not have 30. Instead, he has thus far 38, the majority from Sabah and Sarawak. Did you not notice Anwar flying off to Sarawak the morning of 9 March and to Sabah the following day? And rest assured it was not to buy some Iban or Dayak hats. It was to conference with the Barisan Nasional leaders from these two East Malaysian states.

Abdullah Ahmad Badawi knew all this of course, as did his advisers on the fourth floor. However, instead of trying to win the hearts and minds of the East Malaysians, he antagonised them further when he offered the East Malaysian warlords just five Deputy Minister posts, and in very unimportant ministries on top of that.

Sabah and Sarawak brought in 54 Parliament seats to match the 86 from Peninsular Malaysia. Without these 54 Parliament seats from Sabah and Sarawak, Barisan Nasional would be having a mere four-seat majority over the opposition coalition of PKR, DAP and PAS -- while the popular votes garnered by Barisan Nasional would be less than half. It became slightly over half only when the Sabah and Sarawak votes were included.

20 of the 30 Barisan Nasional Members of Parliament from Sarawak have agreed to cross-over to the opposition while 16 of the 24 from Sabah will follow suit if Sarawak first takes the plunge. To start the ball rolling, Anifah Aman, brother to the Sabah Chief Minister, rejected the offer for the post of Deputy Minister and with about half a dozen or so other Sabah warlords flew off to Melbourne to meet the other warlords from Sarawak. They have been there since last week; planning, plotting and scheming their moves, which they will make when the time is right. Rest assured Anifah would not act without the consent of his brother, Musa Aman.

They will of course not make their move now. They are waiting for May 2008. By midnight of 14 April 2008, Anwar will be eligible to contest the elections and probably Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim will resign his Bandar Tun Razak seat or Zulkilfi Nordin his Kulim seat. A by-election will then be called and Anwar will of course be that PKR candidate to contest the by-election. On 5 May 2008, Parliament will be convened with Anwar now a Member of Parliament. From 7 May 2008 onwards, 82 opposition Members of Parliament will be able to table a motion of no confidence against Abdullah, supported by no less than 38 Barisan Nasional Members of Parliament, as it now stands. The 38 Members of Parliament from Barisan Nasional is of course the latest tally taken this morning. 7 May 2008 is still more than a month away and one day is a long time in politics, what more 40 days. So expect this 38 to grow further and it should not come as a surprise if the final tally is no longer just a simple majority but a resounding two-thirds majority. Will we see, therefore, Anwar finally taking office as the Sixth Prime Minister of Malaysia?

Nevertheless, while all this is going on, another candidate for the post of the Sixth Prime Minister of Malaysia is also moving very rapidly in the background. And this man is the resident of that very imposing White House-like abode along Langgak Golf.

Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has not been sleeping. He has been aggressively meeting hundreds of people from all over Malaysia. Even as you read this Tengku Razaleigh is hosting more than 100 Umno division and branch leaders to a sumptuous feast in his office cum home behind the United States Embassy.

Tengku Razaleigh is going a slightly different route though. While Anwar is working on a 'no confidence' vote in Parliament, Tengku Razaleigh is working on the 193 Umno divisions. And he, thus far, has 74 Umno divisions with him. He needs at least 58 nominations to be able to contest against the party President cum Prime Minister. But that is only if he wishes to contest the August 2008 party elections, which Abdullah is trying to postpone till 2009.

August 2008 is too late. 2009 even later. By then Anwar may already be Prime Minister. So Tengku Razaleigh can't afford to wait till August. He must move now. And, on 4 April 2008, Tengku Razaleigh is organising a rally at his home base in Gua Musang. If he can get more than 100 Umno divisions to attend his rally, then he can push for an EGM on 11 May 2008 whereby the party constitution can be amended to allow the 'normal' two-nomination-only to contest, just like what it is for all the other positions -- plus he probably can get a vote of no confidence against the party president passed as well.

Yes, it is certainly going to be a close race. Tengku Razaleigh will make his move on 4 April while Anwar can make his only after 14 April. Then, Anwar can make his second move after 7 May while Tengku Razaleigh will make his on 11 May.

It will be a photo-finish and a win by the nose. But whose nose will it be that will cross the finishing line first? Hey, I can't reveal all just yet. Khairy Jamaluddin and his boys are reading this too, you know. Let's first of all see if they succeed in postponing the August 2008 Umno party elections to 2009. If they fail, then Tengku Razaleigh is well-poised to become the next Prime Minister. If they succeed in postponing the party elections, well, then I suppose my money will have to be on Anwar. Did I not tell you that Malaysia is an exciting country?

Oh, and one more thing, observe what the Rulers have been doing these last three weeks since 8 March 2008 and what they will be doing these next few weeks. That should give you a good hint as to what's in store for us. In the meantime, read the following piece by Mathias Chang, which also gives us an insight into what's in store for us in the not too distant future.

************************************

Barisan Nasional is finished if Pak Lah is not replaced by end April 2008

Matthias Chang

I just could not believe my eyes, when I read in the New Strait Times newspaper, business section – Business Times – that Bank Negara projects 5.6 pc growth this year. Bank Negara Governor, Tan Sri Dr. Zeti Akhtar Aziz was quoted as saying:

“We have done several simulations of different packages which can be implemented in the event of any significant slowdown, which we do not see on the horizon at this point in time.”

I am sure that the “simulations were all done and tested prior to the 12th General Elections of March 8, 2008. So they are no longer valid as they failed to take into account the post-election reality.

Bank Negara must be wearing blinkers or under directions from Pak Lah and his spin-doctors to spin a story that all is well and good. The observation that no significant slowdown can be seen on the horizon at this point of time can be tested by reviewing some independent observations.

Spiegel reported on Wednesday, March 26 2008 that:

“Germany and other industrialised countries are desperately trying to brace themselves against the threat of a collapse of the global financial system. The crisis has now taken its toll on the German economy, where the weak dollar is putting jobs in jeopardy and the credit crunch is paralyzing many businesses.”

Why is the Governor of Bank Negara playing down this acknowledged global financial meltdown – the financial tsunami? Is there a conspiracy of silence among the world’s central bankers?

Spiegel has let the cat out of the bag when it reported further that:

“For some time, there has been a tacit agreement among central bankers and the financial ministers of key economies not to allow any bank large enough to jeopardise the system to go under – no matter what the cost. But on Sunday, the question arose whether this agreement should be formalised and made public. The central bankers decided against the idea, reasoning that it would practically be an invitation to speculators and large hedge funds to take advantage of this government guarantee. Everyone involved knows how explosive the agreement is. It essentially means that while the profits of banks are privatised, society bears the costs of their losses. In a world in which the rich are getting richer and the poor poorer, that is political dynamite.”

There you have it - the global conspiracy of silence by central bankers and finance ministers. Yet, it is I that has been accused of being a conspiracy theorist.

The Malaysian Ticking Time Bomb

Besides the impending global financial tsunami hitting our shores in the very near future, Malaysia is waiting for a ticking time bomb to explode that will leave our country totally defenceless.

No one has even given a thought to this time bomb. What is this time bomb? It is the total dislocation and disruption of the entire 9th Malaysian Plan.

How can this be? Simple! The informal Barisan Rakyat has captured four critical states, more precisely the four critical economic states of Penang, Perak, Selangor and Kedah (part of the rice bowl of Malaysia) and retained Kelantan. There used to be a MIMALAND (Mini Malaysia) in Gombak. But that was a mere tourist attraction. These five states is the real deal, the Real Mini Malaysia, without which the BN government is useless, a toothless tiger.

The 9th Malaysia Plan (and all previous Five Year Plans) envisages that a substantial portion of the RM200 billion budget spread over five years will be allocated to the “state economic engines” of the Malaysian economy, namely Selangor and Penang – the crown jewels. When combined with Perak and Kedah, these states provide the crucial infrastructure, human resources and more importantly the critical mass for the massive investments needed to prepare the economy to meet the impending threat of the global tsunami and at the minimum, to enable the country to float just above the water till the tsunami rolls back to deeper waters.

Just a few days ago, Pak Lah acknowledged this stark reality and conceded that some of the mega-projects will have to be scaled back. Pak Lah and the corrupt and greedy politicians of the Barisan Nasional cannot bear the thought that they will not be in control of these massive investments in the states of Selangor, Perak, Penang and Kedah.

The 9th Malaysian Plan cannot be implemented successfully without the close cooperation between the central Federal Authority and the state counter-parts. This is a given the BN state partners-in-crime to loot the national treasury is absent. Pak Lah and his family have the money but the same cannot be diverted to the coffers of cronies at the state level, when they are no longer in power and control of the state governments.

The nightmare for the Barisan Nasional is not that they lost their 2/3 majority in Parliament and the massive reduction in the popular votes, but that they can no longer enrich themselves as before.

The whole system of patronage that confers absolute power to the President of UMNO and Prime Minister has been rendered ineffective and the rewards for a subservient power hierarchy cannot be guaranteed. Pak Lah and his goons will no longer be able to wield the threat that should the leaders of the political multi-level organisation fail to toe the line, the gravy train will not stop at their stations.

The gravy train stations are now in control of Barisan Rakyat!

So long as Pak Lah and his family are control of the levers of power and the treasury, the economy will be in a grid lock and the entire system will come to a standstill. Checkmate! There are enough reasons to remove Pak Lah as demanded by the electorate in the just concluded elections. But the nail that hammers in the lid of the coffin is the consequences of this stark economic reality.

The Prime Minister who replaces Pak Lah must be one who is without controversy, baggage and more importantly must be acceptable to the leaders of the Barisan Rakyat. This will provide the minimum basis for cooperation between the two “Barisans”. And such a leader will then be able to reform the present system and save the economy from dislocation and disruption and the unimaginable consequences that will assuredly flow from the present gridlock.

Time is against us.

Pak Lah must be removed when Parliament convenes, if the Barisan Nasional Members of Parliament have the interest of the country at heart and not their warped interest for power and self-enrichment.

No one to date has the guts and the convictions to take on Pak Lah and his goons except Tengku Razaleigh. He has offered to serve the country. He should be given a chance.

Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad has also called for Pak Lah’s removal. Members of Barisan Nasional must heed their call to remove Pak Lah. The nation must ensure that the momentum generated by the results of the General Election must gather speed and force to sweep away the political debris of Pak Lah, his family and his goons!

And God help us and Malaysia should we fail!

Why are you frightening us with Armageddon of nighmarish proportion, or is it a case of wind of change for a new beginning for "MALAYSIA FOR MALAYSIANS"?

Come what may hold on to your safety belt for we are going for a roller coaster ride, the outcome of which is going to have casualties like a share market crash, ringgit freefall etc. before it gets better.

Wooooow , mind boggling!
So much happening behind the scene!
Hope the alternate government will be in place before the financial tsunami hits.
I know people may have doubts about both Ku Li and Anwar and their intentions to lead this nation for better or worse.
My view is, anyone of them is wayyyy better than AAB,Najib,KJ,Hishamuddin and other PM wannabes.
In long term, perhaps more credible leaders can take lead, I see one such person in Zaid Ibrahim and Shahrir unfortunately they don't have proper support from grassroot and co leaders themselves.

I think this also explains why AAB and M2T are desperate to reach out to rural areas and concerned about their progress, this is the only thing they have and the only way they can swindle more money
smilies/tongue.gif

I hope for a change , not just for the sake of change, but for better future.
Any leader who can ensure this will have my support.

In the case of party hopping after election, I am against the idea as it is morally wrong, but if it is to save the nation from downfall, so be it!

Usher in the new dawn expand the territory of New Dawn Federated Malaysian States!

"Rest assured Anifah would not act without the consent of his brother, Musa Aman".

Musa Aman is the biggest culprits as far as Sabahans are concerned. He raped Sabah as he pleases. Anifah knew that if BN falls, his brother Musa will also fall and the chances are that the ACA will reopen the numerous files on all police reports (grafts) made by PKR years before the 12th elections. Can we trust Anifah? He is "musang berbulu ayam" trying to save his brother Musang skin!

We in Sabah know what kind of wakil rakat or MP anifah aman, musa aman and ghafur salleh are. Not to mention the Sabah Umno MPs and Adun. They are the most corrupt wakils among the Sabah BN reps.

Can you imagine having these epople in Barisan Rakyat/Alternatif? The very same people we want to get rid of from being members of a clean, efficient, trustworthy and uncorrupted govt.

Let's say no to these people. We want a re-election if they want to defect the BR. That or I am voting for anyone but BR or BN. Enough is enough. Anwar should be careful with this matter or he will tumble like a deck of card. We bring the opposition up and we can bring them down too. Watch us.

In 1997, I wrote a piece for "The Nation" saying that Tengku Razaleigh will be replacing Dr Mahathir as the Fifth Prime Minister of Malaysia. When the article came out, the Special Branch (SB) in Penang called me up to its Penang HQ and had interrogated me for close to 5 hours.

They the SB did not like the article I wrote although my prediction was way off the mark as Pak Lah instead had become the replacement to Mahathir.

Till today, I dont know why the cops were so paranoid over my prediction which was way off the mark by close to 10 years.

Tersurat in the above paragraph is Paklah did not do anything when Anwar was trying to woo Sabah and Sarawak voters

Tersirat is Anwar and Paklah have a certain understanding from the beginning, and this was all preplanned.

Anwar and KJ are sleeping on the same bed.

on another note,

The formation of BR was based on may ideals; trust, integrity, honesty, equality, humility, ..... and all the other ideals.

According to Anwar, one of the main things BN lacks is integrity. BN is corrupt to the core.

Currently, Anwar is trying to woo MPs from BN into PKR. These MP certainly doesn not live up to the above ideals.
Plus, there are reports that there is a certain amount of cash rewards for these party hoppers.

What bothers me is that, offering cash, or positions to party hoppers is a form of corruption. Before I voted, BR promised that the party would be completely CLEAN. THis acts certainly would make me think twice before voting for BR/ANWAR next time around. Anwar promised a corrupt free government.

But currently Anwar is using corruption to form the government. THis is equivalent to BN election rigging, in my books.

Whoever and whatever that make a Better Malaysia that have Freedom of Religion, Freedom from Racism, Freedom of Press and Freedom from ISA....is all that matters.

don't hope for UMNO-BN on that matter. 50 years and then sudden change in strategy of UMNO-BN to meet rakyat wishes is a bit cynical.

The juicier part is the deal of who is immune from persecution, family looked after....much like those MCA, MIC cronies did in 1969 when they signed away their respective race rights in NEP. Now not so bad its only the malays who wants some benefits and leeway.....Deal or No Deal Rakyat?? This is also part of compromise.

I say take the deal and when Judiciary is Proper and Neutral we the BR back stab the crooks and rid Malaysia of these leeches.....I am leeting these leeches know that the rakyat plan is for a good foundation for a better Malaysia. Believe me, the financial chaos is coming....there will not be enough $$$ to build Malaysia let alone room for corruption $$$.

I shared ur sense of excitement about the possibility of new PM for the country but am not sure if I share your enthusiasm about how we are going to achieve it, or rather how DSAI is going to achieve it.

I am not sure about others, but I do not want to replace a PM who use underhand tactics to win power with another who uses the same tactics.

I cannot and will not support any parties or leaders who resort to buying off MPs win power. These katak MPs will say they switch allegiance because they finally see the light but we are not that naive. They will switch side again when offer a bigger bribe.

DSAI must resist the temptation to buy these katak MPs. If you really believe in us, Malaysians, you will wait four years. DSAI, I urge you not to be blinded by short term gains.

Matthias Chang, can u still remember sometime last year when you, the last dimwit in M'sia who still, in your golden age, pretends to be all-knowing, who claimed that the Lingam tape was a FAKE? Sometimes, great ppl fall bcoz of allegiance to DICTATORS. Matthias, pls don't go to HELL, stay in between HEAVEN & HELL. At least, you've the luxury of choosing between betraying youself and the country. When I count from 1 to 3, can you pls disappear?....To say such thing is a SIN. But, when I face a hypocrite, I would rather be a sinner than a TRAITOR!......Matthias, pls, I repeat, DISAPPEAR!!!

I read the comments on Trengganu and then the comments on the federal govt and we seem to have different bias. Dr Faruqi had written about the issue in Trengganu and the various scenario possible. These scenarios would be applicable to the federal govt as well. On top of that, the PM has already been sworn in. The change of govt is now not just a question of defections and the other party will now take over. The sitting PM can always ask for the parliament to be dissolve and fresh elections held. If I am not mistaken, the constitution has been amended to require the ruler to accept the advice of the PM.
Personally, I think enough is enough. Let the elected representatives do their job. Let UMNO handle their internal problem. And if the UMNO reps are too inward looking and forget about their constituencies, you can bet the when the next GE comes along, they will also be gone.
The various parties have to accept the result of the election and not try to rule through the backdoor.

Cheers.

“Tersurat in the above paragraph is Paklah did not do anything when Anwar was trying to woo Sabah and Sarawak voters
Tersirat is Anwar and Paklah have a certain understanding from the beginning, and this was all preplanned.
Anwar and KJ are sleeping on the same bed”.

The truth 'urban legend or urban myth'

Countdown to hell for Dr.Mahathir and his legacy

If BR comes to power, I am moving home. My home sweet home. Couldn't wait. I'll be praying everyday for this to happen. I left because of the corrupted & discriminating umno satans. I hope the BR will always remain people's government. For all Malaysians. regardless race and religion.
I am so nervous now. It's like ticking bomb. May 7th looks 100 years away. Please let it happen. It is time for umno to dissappear. I hate those satans. I am sure there are lots of good ones but unfortunately the few evil ones have destroyed the reputation of umno, especially Khairy Monyet.

Ignoring the obvious fear-mongering element in Matthias' write-up (obviously to scare UMNO members into kicking out Badawi as soon as possible), from a purely financial basis, he is not too far off the mark. Most of the major world markets are teetering on the brink, and as more and more financial institutions start disclosing their write-downs (some equal to the GDP of a small country), a full-on recession (i.e. a fall in GDP over two consecutive quarters) is looking more and more probable. The resulting wave will hit us, and with our inflation and interest rates the way they are, Bank Negara and the Ministry of Finance will have their work cut out to manage the country through the dips and swells.

My worry is that, with the current political climate, the people at the helm might be distracted from watching their backs all the time to focus on helping the country weather the storm. We should hope for a change in leadership sooner rather than later, so that the new PM, whoever he might be, will have enough time to sort out and bed down his policies, and more importantly his administration, before the "financial tsunami" (what's with these weather analogies people keep using??) starts to hit us - should the world economy get to that point, that is.

Roll on, May 7th!

Why is it necessary for us to play the blame game? It doesn't matter because the milk is already spilled. We need to move forward as a nation. Phoenix will not rise unless we first turn it into ashes. Lets burn this current regime. Only then will we see a new beginning. With the new beginning we then have the luxury of opportunity to mop up the spilled milk and roast these perpetrators for their criminal greed.

I just have a few questions. If Anwar is trying to be hushy-hushy about it and you pointing out specific people that are going to jump boat, what will that do to the chances of Anwar? Also, how would the anti-hopping law affect their chances? Will Khairy and his goons employ gangsterly tactics to discourage party hopping? What about harrasing Tengku to stop whatever he's doing? Maybe pull the ISA out and then charge him with corruption and sodomy...

Hi RPK and Co.

Exciting times are in store for all of us. 100 days might be too short a period for evaluation, but also a good indicator of things to follow suit. I just can’t wait for the 1st parliament session to commence. From the word GO its going to be a battlefield I predict. Voices of the people are with the 82 elected and maybe more the moment the vote of no confidence is passed.

So much of drama yet to unfold, everyday is Malaysian Politics is a day to look forward too, nothing beats this feeling for me at this moment and I hope all this excitement will somehow be generated to results from the rightfully elected members of parliament.

For now the basketball score is 140-82, but this game is no ordinary basketball game, points can be deducted and somehow the tsunami is going to sweep through the parliament too.

Vamos Malaysia, I nearly gave up hope before March 8th, thinking that there is not much hope left, now the people have given you a lifeline, this is the best breath of fresh air the country could ask for.

Thanks MT for the member id that I received today. This is my first post. Any comments are most welcome. Sorry if it's a bit lengthy. It's due to it has been brewing in my mind for some ten days since I send request for member id (at that moment solely to give out this comments).

Agreed with bumi non malay on the crossover matter. This once in a lifetime chance for BR to take over and clean up the system. Current government is not the true People's choice given the non free press, vote rigging, gerrymandering, vote buying etc. BN can rise back again in four years. This is what people of Terengganu found in 2004. Since BN raised the level of cheating there that year, it's proven difficult for BR to regain the state (as proven in 2008 election).

You can be sure they will intensify the effort and work harder to hatch up more foul schemes. State like Selangor, Kedah and Perak are vulnerable in next election. I'm not worried for Penang & Kelantan, the Rakyat support, awareness and trust are strong there, it will be almost impossible now for cheating to work there. Remember what SIL said in TV after Rembau vote counting. We'll work harder to improve the BN disappointing result (something to that effect). You can bet that what he meant by work harder is not work harder to serve and please the Rakyat but work harder in foul and cheating means. A leopard doesn't change its spots.

Just like the police and prosecutor in handling and investigating a case (at least that what I saw on TV), they have to make a deal with some of the crooks to expose and prosecute bigger or more crooks. Hope Anwar/BR will be able to select lesser crooks and ensure they’ve fully repented before accepting them. This is an acceptable compromise for a much bigger gains (like clean up the election). Acceptable as long as it doesn't involve money/riches being offered. Positions offered are for them to serve Rakyat through that position not for their own gain (apart from the prestige, advancement in political carrier, the legitimate allowance/salary). With BR pledge of transparent governances, free press they will not be able to abuse their position anyway (that's their pledge, if not we vote them out later).

This is the case of the ends justify the means. Remember we're at war here facing very devious enemy. We have no choice, we need to make that compromise to win the war. In four years anything can happen, don't be too confident with our win this year. With the current system that they have (media, SPR, government agency, vote buying) they have been winning for 50 years. This year could be their temporary setback only. With just a bit of tweak in this proven (but devious) system they could again raise. Don't let that happen please, let finish it off while we have the chance. We don't want to wait another 50 years.

Just like in a competitive sport, in competitive business or in one's competitive career (office politics?) we will not pass a chance to win or gaining upper hand with the assumption there will be another chance in the future. That's unthinkable in competitive world, which is the true reality real world.

We're not living in dream or ideal world. Idealist won't stand a chance. This is what now DAP and PAS have realised, they no longer hold 100% true to their ideals. To have bigger gains and moving toward the same ends (as their ideals) they've compromised some of their ideals and cooperate with each other. So PAS & DAP don't talk about it's against what we stand for (the crossover) when you already compromised on some of things your own ‘political ideology’ stand for. Don't act like you're standing on higher moral ground than PKR, it's a bit of hypocrisy. Welcome to the real world . We can't waver now, it's now or never (need to do before AAB is ousted; he's the reason people want to cross over).

But we must always remember the end so BR must call fresh fair & free election (with fair & free press) soonest possible after taking over. Give back to Rakyat so that BR get a truly legitimate mandate. It may take 1 or 2 or 3 years to do the cleaning up but once it's done fresh election must be called immediately.

WE ARE DOOMED!!!

scenario A: Ku Li wins...a NEW leader...unfortunately of an OLD and ineffective BN... a den of thieves only towing the party line of institutionalised corruption...

even if Ku Li wins the support of the UMNO...Ku Li will merely be the Chief Thief...nothing more...and what good is that for the country? they will carry on the stealing..the abuse of power...the alienation and marginalisation of the needy...new broom sweeps clean? no way...as long as UMNO exists...malaysia is doomed!!!

scenario B: anwar becomes THE MAN!!...and it certainly looks as if that is a strong possibility...then there is only hope for positive change if A LEOPARD CAN CHANGE ITS SPOTS...we all remember what anwar stood for and scooped up when he was in power...why didnt he stand for all those new ideals he now advocates? is he such a reformed leader to suddenly have this amazing transformation to be the nations messiah?

even if he did undergo that change...how effective would he be? what is the real cost? having bought power with the help of dirty unscrupulous turn-coats..(im talking about the honourable MPs from s'wak and sabah...and all the rest)

these dogs have no integrity...they go where the hunting is good...they have no morals...they wag their tails for anyone who will feed them...

and anwar will have to feed them...what with i hear u ask?..with OUR birthright...the nations wealth (whats left of it)

so my dear brethren...March 8th was a new dawn..we voted with our feet...but now in the clarity of the day...what is before us r rain clouds...and what is guaranteed for us...is that the sun will set again...

will there really be a tomorrow?

i pray there will be...we can only pray...

inspirasi, what you see as doom, we see as hope. The BR did not win the march 8 elections by prayer, but by delibrate planning. Doomness is about giving up to make things better; hope is about looking forward, believing and shaping things the way we want them to be. 8 march is significant not just because the BR won, but because it makes people think that what was thought to be impossible, is now possible. It is also about the power of rakyat against the massive force of the power, and the people won. It would be naive to think that either Ku Li or DSAI cannot read this message and the warnings it carries. DSAI have no need to change his spot, and like all of us, he can make a new choice in life, and take the chance given to him, to make good in the final phase of his life. I believe even our PM, inapt as he was, is beginning to wake up, although, it is a little late. We have to believe in goodness and in the ggodness of people. With better check and balance, the evils in men can be kept in check. So let's look forward and help make things possible.

he will undoubtedly be working with hyenas and pariahs (esp those who have turned-coat) and anwar will have to be stronger and braver than the lot of them...as he knows for sure...when the wind changes direction...these animals will jump ship and be more than happy to leave the leopard to the dogs...

unless of course u feel..just like the leopard (anwar) these pariahs can also 'make that new choice in life' (your words) and really be upstanding leaders...with integrity...and accountability...beings responsible to the rakyat for their actions...

Hope has a time dimension...and hope is not about guarantee or getting everything we hope for. There is no guarantee in life, not in the US, here or anywhere. Only with hopes, we have meaning to fight on when we try to move ourselves out of the abyss of our dismay situation. Malaysia was in a hopeless downspin until March 8. Can you deny that? The whole system was a gone case if allowed to go on. BR wins gives us hope, not the guarantee, that there may still be a future, that there may be a chance out of our doodrums...and it is the only hope we have for over 50 years.

All changes require time; how much time, only heavens know. With time, people can be groomed, right people found...wrongs can be righted, which is the reason why we voted BR. We should never expect too much, too soon, as it would be asking for the impossible.

A duck cannot fly, yes, but it can swim where an eagle can't! So the eagles have their role, and the duck theirs. The answer is not to change ducks to eagles, but to get the each to play the right role. If your office needs cleaning, you can't expect an MBA and CEO to do the job. And just because these people are cleaners, it does not mean they are useless and looked down upon.

And btw, stop the childish names calling game unless you beg the same response, like others have out. You go low, there will be others who are prepared to meet you there. State your case professionally, and I guarantee you would would get the same response from me and others. If people does not response professionally to you, you will have the moral highground to hammer them anyway you deem fit - and with the full backing from people like me.

inspirasi: i too was much encouraged after the success of mar8th...it is only from watching and listening to the goings ons after that is such a reality check.

----------------------------------------

Everyone is faced with the same set of realities after 8 march. But for anyone to see beyond the superficial chaos to see hope requires little more than a applying a higher frame of reasoning. If you do not see hope, there is no hope, as that would be 'your' reality - though may not be 'the' reality.

inspirasi: u tell me...how is anwar going to work with those ex BN mp's? how r they going to be 'remunerated' for jumping ship?]

-----------------------------------------------------------

I don't know. But I instinctively know there are only two choices - to trust or to doubt. I trust that Anwar knows what to do as this is not a totally new game in our political landscape. It is also based upon my believe that there are enough external checks and balance in place (unlike the pre-8 march period where UMNO-led BN dominates), and an internal moral compass shaped by painful personal past experiences, to keep him conscientious in his new role. It is also not too idealistic to speculate that for those MPs (at least some) who chose to come over to BR do so because for the first time they see a chance for them and their future generations to break-free from the shackles of the past and be part of a new beginning.

inspirasi: im not advocating drastic and immediate changes either....just the gnawing feeling that its going to be tough...we have been abused for so long...we have forgotten what is wrong and right...

-----------------------------------

I am glad you believe in having a right pace for making changes. The higher the speed of things change, the more fatal it will be if there is an accident (mis-step). And it is good you can feel the uncertainty and have doubt, but then again it is even better if you can learn to feel the possibility of happiness of a future free of shackles and to trust those we voted in to make that happen.

inspirasi: desensitized ...thats how all this has left the rakyat...this is not an argument milo...but an expression of dismay and loss..that after such a victory...we may just go back to the bad ole days...

I understand...and I encourage you to trust and have hope again. At this point, our nation needs more people with hope for the future and less of people with shattered dreams.

Waaaaah.... this is going to be exciting!.

This is what it's all about...a fighting spirit. For the last 50 years BN has been the dominant force in the country. They step and tramp on people's faces and all they are interested in is me me me. It's changed days now. BN cannot command the people any more and they simply cannot rule Malaysia as their heart wishes. They cannot take law into their hands and every single one of them who have skeletons in their closet will be exposed one by one. How scary that is. ACA will be asked to pull up their sleeves and be accountable, no-more AP's to members and friends etc.

The people and the rakyat of Malaysia just want accountability and transparency....is that too much to ask?.
They are here not to cause a riot. And if the rakyat rise and speak out against corruption and abuse of power, is that wrong and is that constitutes a crime. Those guilty people in government must be brought to justice and let them speak in defence...see what they have to say and let the law takes it cause. It is because of these issues that the rakyat strike-out and the hammer fell down heavily on BN.

Now a new dawn is emerging and there has never been any exciting event like what we have today as far as politic in Malaysia is concern. People want to see a good fight and people want to see a clean fight. No head-butting like Zinadine Zidane and no punching below the waist. When Mohamed Ali fought George Foreman way back in the 70's people around the world waited in great anticipation as they were worried that it could go either way and they really wanted Ali to win. Ali was the people's champion. In Malaysia now we have a different kind of fight. It's Datok Seri Anwar Ibrahim the people's champion vs Ku Li (hopefully) or Pak Lah is he still held on to this post by then. It's a tough fight for both. DSAI still needs to iron out some problems, make sure his gloves are tight etc even before he starts to throw his punches. He knows his move and he has a lot plans and strategies in his head to defeat his opponent but that is not going to be easy. Ku Li is much shorter in stature than DSAI..just like Joe Frazier but Joe Frazier if you can remember how he fought..he fought like a mad dog throwing his punches at random hoping that it would land on Ali. I don't think that Ku Li will fight like that. He has the support of some quarters but still need to wait until he is certain that he is the one selected to do battle with DSAI.

Errrm...people will be watching with excitement and l will be sitting by the fire place glued to the TV to watch.
But to DSAI..whoever comes...he will just say..'bring em on'.

My prediction is DSAI will win,but not with a KO or a TKO. It will be by count. That's good enough. I and many many more Malaysians want DSAI to take over the Premiership of Malaysia and take this country to greater heights and move forward.

As for the current PM or Ku Li from BN, the chances of setting a good government is unlikely. There are too many "skeletons" which are virtually impossible to clear without weakening BN further. Are we that sure things will change for the better if DSAI become PM given the way BR gets its majority.

The few things that still bother me is that firstly BR is a very loose coalition and I am quite sure it has not worked out any agreement on the possible line up which could be the major obstacle for future effective cooperation. Secondly, getting those questionable MP from Sabah and S’wak as bed-fellows does not augur well for effective governance.

Then the other doubts is does BR has the necessary qualified MPs . If forming the new gomen for the sake of kicking out BN, I am afraid we might end up statue quo in term of many negative activities!

RPK,
I hope you will remain as you are, above politics.
Whether BN clings to power or DSAI/BR comes to power,we need you there to inspire us to speak up against bad governance.

I hope DSAI and BR will move to remove the ISA and ban on peaceful demonstrations immediately.

I hope DSAI and BR will move to free the Judiciary and the mainstream media immediately.
I am sick and tired of the governmnt media acting as the mouthpiece of UMNO.

I hope DSAI and the BR will move to clean up the Election Commission and its lobsided practices immediately.
Election boundaries must be redrawn.

Restore the 5% oil royalty to Trengganu immediately and allocate oil royalty to Sabah and Sarawak.

And make sure the money actually goes to the people.

RPK,make your site conmtinue to work for the people, no matter who is in power.

BR,we will be watching you.
The easier part is getting in power.
The harder part will be staying in power.
Just remember that.

Anwar should do the best and most beautiful thing for Malaysia by proclaiming and proposing that Kak Wan Azizah to be made The First Woman Prime Minister of Malaysia if PKR gets the majority in Parliament in the next few weeks.

I will support this proposition All The Way and I believe majority of our MT readers would be all the way with me in this.

Malaysia needs CHANGE and what better Change can we ask for.

I will back Ku Li on this one, as most of you here has pointed out, we are heading into a financial crisis (global), and the main problem is US, this is where it all started, using borrow money all the while for the American dream. For the sake of the country can the leaders come out with a way to save the country first ? Without a country who care if so and so is PM or not.
Bet you anything Anwar will run to US for help if he is PM, the one who created this problem in the first place.
Now it is at a stage where damm if we do and damm if we dont.

1. Everybody (?) wants UMNO out NOW. No question about it.
The rest of the snakes in BN will follow and die from their own poison, though they’d probably get to keep their loot … see how fat Ling Liong Sik still is!

2. Some are worried that if #1 is not achieved THIS TIME AROUND, the snakes will surely make a comeback – in my view, this is pretty likely given the stinking waters of politics of which Malaysia can be proud to belong among the most smelly in the world.

3. So, in order to achieve #1, some realists say it okay for PR to take in BN snakes from Sabah (especially!) and Sarawak – it’s like now or never.

4. If #3, some are worried that DSAI will show his old colours (assuming that he has turned over a new leaf, for now), with additional infection by the Sabah snakes, assuming he needs any more infection given that he had been pretty infected himself. Therefore, the hopefuls say PR should stay clean (if it is indeed clean) and wait for the next GE.

The whole question – or at least a main question – seems to centre on DSAI. How much can he be trusted?

DSAI is an old hand in smelly politics (like his old friend Daim) and maybe he really knows than any of us ordinary citizen that it’s now or never, and like it or not he’s got to bed (at least in daylight and not at midnight) with poisonous Sabah and Sarawak snakes. And perhaps he’s further motivated by the nostalgic intoxicating smell of power, the red carpets in Washington (and Beijing too, why not?) and settling old scores before TDM kicks the bucket, not to mention his own declining years.

So, let’s just hope that DSAI really intends to kill the Sabah, Sarawak and existing PR snakes when the time is right, as the easier route to disinfecting the poison in our politics and society. What other choice do we really have?

It’s tempting to trust in people power, just as it is painful not to trust in it. But if DSAI betrays Malaysians (again!), don’t we trust people power to throw him and other rotten fruits out again? That’s really trusting people power.

So, my view is a bird in hand is worth two in the bush. Seize the hour and strike when the hammer (or is it anvil?) is hot. GO FOR IT!

I think I got onto the wrong track by asking whether DSAI can be trusted, now that he’s happy to deal with any kind of devil – including the BN dregs from Sabah and Sarawak.

The REAL question is what’s in it for these dregs to do a deal with DSAI?

Sabah/Sarawak BN thugs would never have imagined that March 8 is the start of the prime of their dirty lives – if they just stay put. They can loot (or even commit murder) as never before, with the blackmail hold they now have over the occupants of the shaky Bodowi sampan, assuming that before March 8 Bodowi needed any blackmailing to close his squinty eyes. They have at least 4-5 years of free-for-all looting, so whatever CIA-funded big bucks that DSAI can offer is peanuts. And if they jumped over to the PR boat, they’d be under at least some degree of scrutiny by the new PR central government, however pretend-like that may be.

So I think nothing’s going to happen on April 30.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sumber sahih

Memang dialah paling layak berceritakan mengenai politik Sabah.

Merinding bulu roma saya apabila Musli mengatakan begitu. Saya kruang yakin ingatkan beliau seloroh. “Takkan begitu sekali?” tekan saya inginkan kepastian. “Iya ustaz, tengoklah nanti. Semua mereka menanti masa sahaja untuk meninggalkan Umno dan bersama Anwar,” katanya serius.

“Kan sudah diselesiakan?”, tukas saya tidak puas hati.

“Mana selesai ustaz, keadaannya bahkan semakin celaru lagi,” tekannya. (Musli memanggil saya ustaz).

Yes, it is certainly going to be a close race. Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah will make his move on 4 April while Anwar Ibrahim can make his only after 14 April. Then, Anwar can make his second move after 7 May while Tengku Razaleigh will make his on 11 May.

dear YM RPK,

so what happened on Tengku Li's 4th April?
