By DHARMENDER SINGH SHAH ALAM: The list of Selangor state executive councillors has been finalised and the swearing-in ceremony will be held on Monday morning.
Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, however, refused to reveal the names of the selected assemblymen or how many people were picked from each of the three parties forming the current state government. He also declined to comment when asked if the six Malay and four non-Malay councillors formula practised earlier had been maintained or changed. There were rumours that the palace had initially disagreed to a proposal of five Malay and five non-Malay councillors by the PKR, DAP and PAS coalition that will form the new state government. “The list (of exco members) has been confirmed and invitations for the swearing-in have been sent out for the function on Monday but I think it's better not to name those who have been chosen yet,” he told reporters yesterday after attending the Maulidur Rasul celebrations at the Malawati Stadium here. The function was graced by the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah. He said he wanted to wait until all those concerned had been informed and the team recognised before making the announcement of those chosen during the swearing-in ceremony itself. Asked whether the appointment of a Deputy Mentri Besar had been postponed or scrapped altogether, Khalid said the issue needed to be explained properly to the people and he would do so after the executive councillors were sworn in. Khalid, who is also the PKR secretary-general, said that although some of those chosen had lobbied for certain positions in the council, the other two parties did not exert pressure over who should be on the list. - STAR
