PUTRAJAYA: The compulsory asset declaration by all ministers and deputy ministers and their spouses plus immediate family members will be available online for public viewing.

ACA director-general Datuk Ahmad Said Hamdan said they were considering allowing the public to go to the ACA headquarters here to view the declarations personally.

This is in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s directive to all ministers and deputy ministers to declare their assets as part of his aim to ensure a corrupt-free government, he said.

The declarations will then be made available for public viewing to enable people to give their feedback.

If anyone has information that a particular minister or deputy minister has accumulated more wealth than what has been declared, they can contact the ACA – by post, telephone or e-mail (www.bpr.gov.my),” he added.

Ahmad Said said the declaration would have to be made twice every five years.

The ACA is currently drafting the form in which the ministers and deputy ministers will declare their assets.”

Ahmad Said said the agency was also striving to provide better facilities and foster closer rapport with the public to wipe out corrupt practices.

I urge the public to continue providing us with information on any corrupt government or private sector staff,” he added.

When announcing his new Cabinet line-up on Monday, Abdullah said that all those in his administration must declare their assets.

I want their assets to be known to the public, that is important,” he said.

After chairing the new Cabinet’s first meeting on Wednesday, Abdullah said the ACA would come up with forms for them to declare their assets.

He said that an annual review would also be held to gauge the effectiveness of the government’s actions, especially in responding to issues and problems, adding the present system of having a review every four years was insufficient. - STAR

I believe this requirment was always there in the past as well. This requirment should be retrospective as a moral obglition the failure of which has been one of the grouses of the concerned public.Even if it takes time justice must prevail and wealth amassed through corruption must be returned to the people.

What good will reporting to the ACA do when this Another Constipated Agency is NOT independent or under Parliament, but straddled under the PM ? This PM, afterall is not well known for being true to his word nor firm with taking any actions against his subordinates without fear or favour.

After his four years of promising to reduce corruption and only after his big party loss that he comes out with this proposal doesn't make this proposal very believable that it will ever achieve anything.

Please include Police, Armed Forces, ACA, all Chief Secretaries. Go for the Head of Procurement Dept, Logistics Dept and Maintenance Dept.

There are many civil servants who are more corrupt than ministers.

I'm sure this where the creative talents of all UMNOputras and cronies would bloom in all its glory.
Surely the guys who can carry a couple of millions of RM (in CASH) overseas makes it all from his salary, which is totally halal.

So if anyone is hoping for anything at all to be "revealed" - Fat hopes, buddy .....

The declaration should include any POTENTIAL CONFLICT OF INTEREST like Ministers's family/son in law's doing business with the government , including the PAST, to prove their INTEGRITY.

If the Cabinet cannot do that , they are are not sincere and this will be another smoke screen to claim the Ministers are "clean" , and again treating Malaysian Rakyat as retarded !!!!
Clean assets but all the related members and cronies KAYA_RAYA ?????? Another put through the process episode and proven to be "in order" by their own making.
The Malaysian Rakyat will know if this is going to be an " Engineered Transparency" ?

The message to the PM is do not "play play " or lie to the with the Rakyat just by doing some asset declaration paper work.

Just thinking aloud.

1. The statement of assets/liabilities, are the certified and signed by the ACA?
2. If there is proof of divergence between real assets and declaration, would ACA be liable? What is the offence the ACA can be charged with?
3. The declaration, would it be audited? Who audit it? (If certified by professional body, ACA can wash off hand in event of divergence.)
4. After being dropped as minister, what time lapse is allowed before ministers/wife(s) can accumulate/own assets?
5. Who is the watchdog appointed to monitor the declaration? For example: whistle-blowers, are they protected? (ACA said to call them, but is ACA trustworthy?)

MAybe someone can help me to answer some of these questions.
