Whoever crosses the finishing line first with 112 Members of Parliament wins. And it could be Anwar or it could be Tengku Razaleigh. If it is Anwar, then Barisan Rakyat will form the new government, and if it is Tengku Razaleigh, then Barisan Nasional will remain in office.

THE CORRIDORS OF POWER

Raja Petra Kamarudin

OPPOSITION READY TO FORM GOVT

Anwar says it's possible with BN defections

Malaysian opposition chief Anwar Ibrahim says he is moving towards forming a new government with the help of defectors from the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition.

"I don't know how soon we can form the new government, but we are moving in that direction," said the former Deputy Prime Minister, who was sacked and jailed a decade ago.

This comes as the opposition alliance said Anwar's wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, will be the opposition leader in Parliament, holding the post until her husband formally returns to politics.

A corruption conviction prevented Anwar from contesting the elections, but the ban will end in the middle of next month.

Dr Wan Azizah has said during the polls that she was her husband's proxy. She is expected to vacate her parliamentary seat after next month so that Anwar can contest a by-election there.

Anwar is expected to win easily and to officially take over the helm of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).

Dr Wan Azizah is officially the head of PKR, but Anwar is its de facto leader in his capacity as its adviser.

The post of the opposition leader in Parliament was previously held by the Democratic Action Party (DAP). But in the recent elections, PKR emerged as the largest opposition party - winning 31 seats to the 28 for DAP and 23 for Parti Islam SeMalaysia (PAS).

The opposition alliance of PKR, DAP and PAS seized more than a third of parliamentary seats and four more states from BN.

Anwar said coalition lawmakers from Malaysia's eastern states of Sabah and Sarawak on Borneo island had contacted him to discuss switching sides. The power bloc there could unseat the government if it changed hands.

"The MPs from there have come here to see me," Anwar said, adding that he was in no hurry to become the next Prime Minister, but that the opposition would already be in power if the polls had been clean and fair.

"I am maintaining that if there was no fraud in the election, we would have won. If we had 2 per cent more votes, we would have formed the new government," he said.

Anwar said Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's future was in jeopardy and that the ruling United Malays National Organisation was affected by infighting and looming defections.

Abdullah has dismissed Anwar's plans and refuted opposition claims that ruling party members want to defect after the election debacle. - AGENCIES, 20 March 2008

********************

One day after the 8 March 2008 general election, Anwar Ibrahim flew to Sarawak and the following day he stopped over in Sabah before coming back to Kuala Lumpur. And the two-day flying visit to these two East Malaysian states was certainly not to catch up on the latest Iban or Dayak cultural shows. The three opposition parties had just swept 82 of the 222 Parliament seats plus now had control over five states and all it needed was another 30 seats to form a federal government with a simple majority of 112.

Sabah and Sarawak, which have a combined 53 seats in Parliament, make sense because about 80% of these seats are in non-Umno Barisan Nasional component members' hands. The opposition had made little in-roads in East Malaysia or else the opposition would by now have formed the federal government. One million 'new' voters from Indonesia and the Philippines ensured that Sabah would not be to PKR what Kelantan is to PAS.

There is little love-lost between East Malaysians and Umno. East Malaysians view Umno as a parti penjajah or a colonialist party. Many regret the move to allow Umno into Sabah, and although Umno is not quite in Sarawak yet, the many Umno flags flying all over the state give the impression that it is a matter of time before Umno moves into Sarawak as well. This 'visible' presence of Umno make Sarawakians very nervous and if they have to leave Barisan Nasional just to keep Umno out they would do just that.

“Kita orang Umno juga tidak suka Umno,” said one Sabah warlord who is an Umno division chief and a Member or Parliament. “Kita meyertai Umno kerana Umno berkuasa di Sabah tetapi kita harap Umno akan jatuh supaya kita boleh kembali ke parti asal.”

This sums up the sentiments of even those who can be viewed as Umno 'strongmen' in Sabah. “Saya mahu bertanding di atas tiket PKR tetapi Anwar Ibrahim beritahu kami jangan tinggal Umno untuk sementara waktu. Anwar suruh kami bertanding di atas tiket Umno dan kemudian, sekiranya pembangkang menang cukup kerusi, barulah kita keluar Umno dan menyertai pembangkang.”

Yes, there were many planned defections before the 8 March 2008 election but Anwar told them to stay put in Umno and Barisan Nasional and make sure that they win their seats first. Only if the opposition wins with a large enough minority and all it needs are those few extra seats to form the government should they leave the ruling coalition and join the opposition.

This was certainly a sound strategy because Sabah and Sarawak can always play the role of king-maker. And, considering that Sabah and Sarawak control about 24% of the seats in Parliament, they would be a most powerful king-maker indeed. And if Anwar agrees that Malaysia shall have two Deputy Prime Ministers and one of the two shall be rotated between Sabah and Sarawak, this would be enticing enough for the 50 odd Parliamentarians from Sabah and Sarawak to cross-over to the opposition to enable it to form the new federal government.

But Sabah and Sarawak are not the only discontented group. Even if just half the Sabah and Sarawak Members of Parliament cross-over this would be good enough. Thus far it is rumoured that 23 Barisan Nasional Parliamentarians have already agreed to cross-over. This means Anwar needs just seven more Parliament seats to form the federal government. And it will not be that difficult to find seven discontented Parliamentarians from amongst the 90 or so remaining from Peninsular Malaysia.

Anwar's job is cut out for him and he does not have to try too hard to find these discontented Parliamentarians. Umno President and Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is on self-destruct mode and his own moves are helping Anwar by the day. It makes one wonder whether Abdullah is intentionally shooting himself in his foot to make Anwar's life as easy as possible. Could Abdullah be secretly helping Anwar to take over just so that another nemesis, previous Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, fails in his effort to help Deputy Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak take over?

It is no secret that Mahathir wants Abdullah out and that he plans for Najib to take over. It is apparent that yesterday's Cabinet reshuffle was a cleansing exercise to rid the party of the Mahathir-Najib elements. But what this has achieved instead is to create many powerful enemies within the ranks of Umno who, before this, played low-key for fear of losing their positions but now no longer have anything left to hold them back. Abdullah would have been best-advised to keep his friends close and his enemies even closer the way Mahathir normally does. Now, Abdullah has isolated and antagonised his enemies and has allowed them to regroup into a golongan kecewa or discontented lot.

In the run-up to the 8 March 2008 general election, Abdullah and Najib made a pact whereby 60% of the candidates will be Abdullah's men while 40% will be Najib's. Then, on the eve of Nomination Day, Abdullah deviously amended the candidates' list and kicked out Najib's men. Najib was caught with his pants down, not to forget Rosmah's twisted knickers as well.

Now, the golongan kecewa no longer need to pretend that they support Abdullah just to protect their positions. They can now openly side with the anti-Abdullah faction. After all, they have nothing to lose any more, anyway.

Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah is not sitting pretty as well. Since 2006, he has been holding secret meetings with Mahathir to explore the possibility of getting support from the Grand Old Man of Malaysian politics in his bid to mount a challenge for the Umno presidency. Mahathir is not against the idea of Tengku Razaleigh taking over but he wants Najib to be part of the equation. Maybe Tengku Razaleigh takes over for one term and then Najib takes over from there.

But Najib is a liability and Tengku Razaleigh does not feel that this running-mate will augur well for his image. Najib is carrying just too much baggage which will be very difficult to whitewash. So, the almost two-year negotiations with Mahathir has not gone any further than how it first started. Tengku Razaleigh can, of course, declare Mahathir as irrelevant and he can mount his bid with or without Mahathir's endorsement. This is not Tengku Razaleigh though. He would like to mount his challenge but he would like to do it with Mahathir's blessing. He may have his differences with Mahathir but he would not like to belakangkan the man who has been Prime Minister for 22 years and who was in fact the founder of Umno Baru, the party that Tengku Razaleigh intends to take over.

Mahathir is member number one and his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Ali, member number two in the members' registration list. This should account for something. Mahathir, therefore, should not be left out in determining the new power structure of Umno. How to get Mahathir to agree that he takes over from Abdullah but not with Najib as the number two and as the successor-in-waiting? This was Tengku Razaleigh's dilemma the last two years in his long-drawn negotiations with Mahathir.

But the time for negotiations has ended. Before the 8 March 2008 general election, Razaleigh had the luxury of time. After all, the party elections will not be till August 2008. But the way things are going, Abdullah may not last till August 2008. So Tengku Razaleigh has to move now or else, yet again, miss the boat.

Yesterday, in Kota Bharu, Tengku Razaleigh announced that he is going to make a bid for the Umno Presidency, which will then automatically make him the Prime Minister -- if Barisan Nasional can hold on to its 140 seats in Parliament. If he did not make this announcement then there is a possibility that no less than 30 Barisan Nasional Members of Parliament will cross-over to the opposition and the Barisan Nasional government will have to make way for the new Barisan Rakyat government.

The race is on and the countdown begins. Abdullah may not last till August 2008. Some have even boldly predicted that Abdullah may not last 30 days. Whether this is clairvoyance or wishful thinking we will of course know in time. But one thing is for sure, both Anwar Ibrahim and Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah are in a race to see who will cross the finish line first and become the new Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Both Anwar and Tengku Razaleigh are acceptable to PAS and DAP. PKR, though, would prefer Anwar while many in Umno do not want to see Anwar become Prime Minister. So while both Anwar and Tengku Razaleigh are fishing in the same PAS-DAP pond, Anwar will have to look at PKR and the non-Umno Barisan Nasional Members of Parliament for support while Tengku Razaleigh will depend on the Umno Members of Parliament.

The earliest possible date for the challenge would be when Parliament convenes on 5 May 2008. If 112 Members of Parliament support a vote of no confidence on the Prime Minister then the Agong will have no choice but to appoint a new Prime Minister from amongst the 222 Members of Parliament. It is as simple as that. But whether they can get 112 Members of Parliament to do just that and which of the two, Anwar or Tengku Razaleigh, would lead that motion of no confidence is something we shall all have to bite our fingernails and wait to see what happens.

To the party members, it will make a a big difference as to whether Anwar or Tengku Razaleigh heads the new government. To the non-partisan voters, though, it does not matter which scenario prevails because both will bring about reforms. Anwar's agenda for reform is well-documented and needs not be repeated here. Tengku Razaleigh, however, is an unknown commodity and certainly quite an attraction to those who wish for changes but are not quite ready for a paradigm shift just yet.

Humans, just like all mammals, are creatures of habit and are resistant to change. Sure, the system has failed and it needs changing. But how much of a change should they risk? Should they go for an absolute change and take their chances with a Barisan Rakyat federal government of should they keep Barisan Nasional in office on condition that there is a leadership change?

Many want to first see how the five states under opposition control perform before opting for a complete change. Let them run these five states for five years and let us see whether we can trust them with the job of running the country, appears to be the popular sentiment. Not many are adventurous enough to dabble with the unknown. And it is not known yet whether Barisan Rakyat is capable of running the country. So Tengku Razaleigh as Prime Minister appears to be more comforting to most Malaysians than an opposition Anwar Ibrahim.

If Abdullah stays on then there would be no choice in the matter. If the only way to get Abdullah out would be to kick out Barisan Nasional then so be it. But if there is an alternative, and if this alternative involves a leadership change within Umno and Barisan Nasional, and if this new leader is the likes of Tengku Razaleigh, then this would be a 'gentler' and safer change than a paradigm shift.

Whether Anwar gets to form the new federal government will all depend on Tengku Razaleigh. If Tengku Razaleigh makes his move and appears to have some chance of success, then the people will wait and see what happens. But if Tengku Razaleigh does not make his move or appears to have no chance in hell of toppling Abdullah, then the people will look to Anwar for this change. And that is why, yesterday, Tengku Razaleigh was forced to announce his decision to challenge Abdullah. Now, Tengku Razaleigh has offered Malaysians two options instead of just one, Anwar Ibrahim. If Tengku Razaleigh had kept quiet and had waited until August to make his move, it may be too late. By then Anwar may already be the new Prime Minister of Malaysia. And as for Najib, well, he can always lead the Barisan Nasional golongan kecewa club which has grown very large indeed.

Let the show begin!
Both are good! BUT if you wants to see which 1 can hold water? certainly is Anwar Ibrahim, He has done his homework well, compare with Tengku who intention is just wants to take over Bodowi & old man insisted Najib continue in the game plan.

Therefore, it makes no difference even Tengku won the battles.

I was told in Sarawak the Chinese voters gave a good run to the barisan in the urban centers. In Sarikei, the BN candidate won by a very slim margin of 50 vote. But the problems lies with the bumi and native indigenous rakyat in the rural sectors. They are gullible and had not awaken to the regime of the 'pek moh' cronies. If the DAP-PKR coalition can penetrate this rural sector and dilute the brain-washing mentality, inroads would be felt. The majority of urban Sarawkians know the grab-all schemes of all implemented projects from the Barisan. You name any big project, you can see the connection to the ruling political and timber tycoon cronies. And unlike the rakyat in Semenanjung, the Malays, Ibans, Kelabit, Kayans, Kenyahs, Penans, Punans, Bidayuhs are all collectively the prey of these manipulators. Break this wall and you get the votes. This is as good as open knowledge. Sarawkians are all fed up with the 'pek-moh' days. It high time to turn things around. Go for it. They all have had enough of the abuses and corrupt practices just like their counterparts in the Peninsular.

Ok Pak Lah, looks like your days are numbered. We all know you are a good man but a weak leader. This is what you should do, Get 30 of your MP's that you trust the most and join BR as soon as you can. Why? Because Dr Mahathir, Ku Li and Najib is trying to topple you. Before they can do that be a wiseman and put a stop to it.

By bringing 30 MP's, we would form the new government and by doing so, we can end Najib's political career for good. Later we will charge him for murdering the mongolian model and put him behind bar for good. Don't worry about Mahathir and Ku Li, they are history.

Think about it Pak Lah. We rakyat will forgive you for what you've done and hail you as a gentleman. Afterall, you and Anwar are from the same state Penang.

I don't understand people calling Anwar a traitor. What has he actually done to warrant this label? Let's not even talk about what he did to have incur Mahathir's wrath, but to see the people he championed or the whole government/party he worked so hard for turn against him, almost overnight, get a black eye, then be accused of, in muslim eyes, the most heinous crime of sodomy. Be a victim of one of the most farcical trial in Malaysian history, then suffer in jail for 6 years before coming out looking like he aged 20 years, fragile, weak, in that wheelchair.

It's hard for anybody to come out of that and not want to fight the injustice done to him. What do you expect? That he goes back into UMNO? Forget everything that happened? So Walia, you ask yourself whether you can do that first before so easily labeling Anwar as a traitor.

And why is suddenly royalty put on such a pedestal all of a sudden? Razaleigh has superpowers and can command respect because he's royalty? Even RPK has chronicled at how the reputation of the royal institution was systematically dismantled that it command little to no respect in our country anymore. And suddenly royalty is everything again? Everybody screams at opposition to honor and respects the Sultans of Perak and Selangor. But how come nobody protests to Abdullah and Shahidan to respect the Perlis Sultan? It's pathetic that royalty matters to you only when it suit your preferences.

Walia, although I didn't vote you down, from my experience with my comments being voted down (my first few posts were like yours, offering no addition the the discussion except incoherent screaming and emotion, and was rightly voted down
). I believe you are voted down because you engage in emotional language without any form of insightful or constructive proof to your claims. You write in simple sentences with no connection from one sentence to the next, leaving everything else to the reader to guess. Are you trying to relate oil prices to national sovereignty? In what ways? You say that Anwar supporters are poorly informed of the danger he poses. Would you care to enlighten us? Although it's pretty hard that if RPK has not digged up the dirt, you would be able to do any better.

The last part of your response is the most confusing of all. First, you ask us, whether we are all against corruption. Let us assume that the answer is yes (and that is what you assume). Then based on your unsubstantiated rumor, you say that we are hypocrites for supporting Anwar as well as the eradication of corruption. Then I am totally lost by what "Since Malaysians themself accept this kind of real politics, to Mahathir, Najib and Ku Li." means or how it connects to us being hypocrites.

Then you say that we should gather all our troops, dead or alive, to deny Anwar's entry. Dead voters? isn't that a corruption of the system that you so vehemently oppose? And I think the rakyat already made known their desires on March 8, so stop bitching.

BTW, you haven't answered how Anwar is a traitor.

Frankly, I would like to see him deliver on his promises first before offering him the PM's chair. Maybe Tun Musa should join in the fray. This is the best opportunity for Malaysia to have a 2 party system- BR and BN to work for the rakyaat. This is one very good way to ensure that no one party will have monopoly for another 45 years. Give each one of them a few term and change over. Not only will this ensures new ideas, this will also automatically ensure the better running of government departments cos, changes should always bring along new accountability. To be fair to the PM, he at least take the result of the GE like a gentleman. I believe this is good for Malaysia.

You all have been listening to TDM. TDM was not right in so many things e.g appointing Pak Lah as his succesor. Similarly, his onslaught against Anwar was a mistake. He knows that, but he will not admit it!! He wanted Anwar out to save his political future..

Anwar is now a matured, seasoned and a capable man.. As the next PM we all can see Malaysia's Golden days again.. Give him a chance.. Support his vision. It is good for us and the generations to come.

RPK,

Please enlighten if I am wrong.

I think it si not that easy , hence Anwar has to plan his steps carefully. Upon no-confidence vote, Pak Lah would have the choice to step down or dissolve the parliament.

If he decided to dissolve the parliament, and with him not yet thrown off as Umno president, he would still be calling the shot in nominating the new BN candidate line-up . He could then ditch Ku Li. And if the snap election turned out to be unfavorable to Anwar, we are going to let goons to rule for the next 5 years.

So, in a nutshell, Anwar has to plan his steps carefully. The no-confidence vote can go both ways.

This is very exciting ! A thriller for me. Who will win the race and the the first grand prize.. The title and power as the PRIME MINISTER OF MALAYSIA !

WOW ! It like the reality show. I hope the winner is not decided by SMS vote count. You know, the feelings after GE12 was like after World Cup 2006. I dont know what to do with my life after the The Greatest Game on Earth finished. Then GE12 came and life was exciting again. Its back to no life after GE12. But voila ! the real race has started.

I am sure Pak Lah will leave office respectfully. He is a nice man but have been skillfully exploited by many. in that sense i dont want him to be my PM anymore. he need a break and build a family with his lovely new wife.

Now consider this:

Grandmaster Mahathir want Pak Lah down and Najib be PM.
Grandmaster Anwar want Pak Lah down and he be PM.
Grandoldman of UMNO Tg.R want Pak Lah down and he PM.
Grandmother Rafidah and gang pray Pak Lah to go down.

Gerakan new buddy LGE is telling BN Pak Lah to come down.
MIC is under renovation until BN Pak Lah is down.
MCA cant decide whether to kick or push BN Pak Lah down.

oh my god, this is really exciting !
Who will do what moves?
Grandmaster Anwar is building his troops from the EAST after a successful battle in the peninsular.

What is Grandmaster Mahathir next move after brave Mukhkriz battle cry?

In Sarawak, SUPP should have lost 3 more seats, namely the Sarikei,Sibu and Stampin. The first was due to bad luck, with infighting amongst 5 minor candidates; the 2nd and 3rd seats were won by virtue of postal votes plus some kampong die-hards.

For Anwar to succeed in forming the next govt all he needs to do is to approach every single Iban and Bidayuh MP in Sarawak and all the Kadazans (and some Malays) MPs in Sabah with offers they cannot refuse. It need not be monetary at all. He knows how it works. The time is now, he cannot wait.

From the voting trend shown in the rural Iban/Bidayuh constituencies in Sarawak, there is a wind of change blowing. Infighting amongst their own people, eg PRS (Masing-Sng) did not help. Masing will fall when Pek Mo is out of the picture.

In SUPP if George Chan does not step down by the end of 2008 as he had promised, the party will be wiped out in the next State elections due in 2011, but which may be called earlier if Pek Mo goes. DAP should pray that GC is not a man of his words.

However the PBB Malays/Melanaus are loyal to BN; it would be next to impossible to move them an inch. Material wealth matters not so much to them.

Therein lies Anwar's dilemma. And which benefits Ku-Li.

I notice that those who said something negative about Anwar were voted down. Those who said something bad about Ku Li were voted up. I am sure the intention of MT/RPK is not to create a partisan crowd. To me Anwar has qualities of a good leader. I am sure he will make a very good PM. On the other hand, like the above article says, Ku Li represents a more moderate change. Many said that Ku Li is an old fox that will not do things simply if he cannot possibly win. With that quality, people are more comfortable for the future of Malaysia. But on the latest note, I was repulsed by his letter to UMNO divisional chiefs. It has elements of racism, and power-hunger. It this is Ku Li's intention, then out with him. We don't need such person around to be PM of Malaysia, no matter how good he is. So, my friends, let the deserving one takes the winner podium.

Tengku Razaleigh comes out as a gentleman and an economic giant. A refomer too. But his agenda is still NEP based. Will he have the courage to clean out UMNO's baggage? NO! Thats the verdict.

Anwar is like a breath of fresh air. His vision is clear. This is the 21st Century and the country needs a new deal: the Malaysia Economic Agenda.

My vote is for Anwar.

Dear Walia,

DSAI did not betrayed UMNO, it was UMNO who betrayed him. UMNO did not stand by him when he was innocent and put to languish in jail to suffer several years - when he is their second in command. He was the best talent they have after TDM. He could have got back to UMNO and made contributions to the party, but the power brokers of UMNO rejected him. Why? It was not because he was a threat to UMNO, he was a threat to their position. In the system of operation that UMNO has, it would have been quite difficult if not impossible for DSAI to have acted corruption-free and go up the ladder and reach the top post. But that was his is past. I believe that after experiencing a grossly unfair jail sentence, a certain degree of enlightenment will arise and a reformed man will emerge. It is on this basis I put my hope, trust and my bet on DSAI.

Tengku Razaleigh is ok, better than Badawi anyway. But change will still be slow under the present system of the UMNO and BN. There are still many baggages that cannot be removed or removed so easily. The trade-off is the familiarity and stability it will probably bring if Tengku Razaleigh leads.

I am ok with both, and this option open to us is great. But DSAI would be my choice to lead the nation forward.

The psychological 112 means everyday easy, and that can mean good luck to everybody in Malaysia.

In terms of leadership skills and top level government experience and expertise, Anwar is a much better choice for the next Prime Minister compared with Ku Li. After the Kamunting experience, the sacking from the DPM post and the 6 years in Sungai Buloh prison, Anwar has transformed significantly. Anwar has somehow learnt how to work with the enemies more effectively and mastered the Art of War. Ku Li has tainted past just like some of the other potential PM, and his peak was when he mounted the challenge on the old fox in politics and lost because his comrade switched camp in the last minute. That is probably why the old fox is indebted to Najlis for the favour that saved him from disgrace.

ABB is a real Malay gentleman and knows how to differentiate between original UMNO, Semangat 46 and UMNO Baru. ABB is probably frustrated with his efforts to cleanse UMNO and BN of corruption, cronyism, nepotism, proxies, excesses and abuses. He was probably sincere in wanting to being about the much needed transformation, but was too diplomatic and hoping the leopards and foxes within can change just with his “advices”. ABB is probably exhausted and lack the experience to deal with the warlords, and although he has managed to axed some of the bad apples but there are still a couple of rotten ones to indicate that he is not in full control of the political situation. His inability to fight the old fox and his proxies has been demonstrated in his cabinet line up. His indecision about dropping the Najlis baggage is his possible demise in his PM career for sure. No doubt it can create a possible internal crisis, but he may still cling on to 112. The damage is already beyond salvage and the onslaught by Anwar is to a large extent unstoppable.

Some of Anwar’s old comrades in UMNO are probably able to help him realize his 112 sooner than expected. Anwar was not perfect just like any human beings on earth, but he has been able to refine himself with the exposure in the USA and other countries prior to the March 8 GE. He has surprised many of his enemies because of his willingness to learn and sharpen his saw.

The IMF bail out may help to transform Malaysia in 1997/8 although NEP must be sacrificed in favour of Malaysian Economic Policies (MEP). All other countries under the IMF bail-out package come through with amazing transformation and advancement in social economic development. Look at Korea, Thailand, The Phillipines, Indonesia and all the other countries are advancing significantly. Malaysia is to a large extent digressing only to be sustained by the oil & gas to a large extent. The IMF intervention will also mean that the corrupted political leaders shall be cleansed from the administration, and we should not have all these warlords and baggage to carry.

The Iron Lady of Malaysia was removed from the cabinet line-up because she fails to understand the insistence of USA and WTO for the dropping of the NEP in favour of something similar to MEP, as well as the need to implement the open tender system. The BR is definitely implementing the policies in line with the US-Malaysia FTA, and it is good for Malaysia especially the imploding micro economy.

Ku Li is not likely to bring about the change and transformation to comply with US-Malaysia FTA and WTO’s globalisation & trade liberalization.

Anwar is the right leader to bring about the Renaissance of Malaysia, and bring about the hope and future of all Malaysians. He is not perfect just like anyone of us, but his openness and willingness to change (like a chamelon) is a trump card and the champion of 112.

It is time to reach out to the MP’s with conscience to give Anwar the chance to help us to realize the following:
a)Social capitalist Malaysian Economic Policies
b)Malaysia for Malaysians
c)Fairness, equality and opportunities for all Malaysians
d)Wipe out corruption, cronyism, nepotism, excesses, and abuses
e)Clear division of judiciary, legislative, executive and rules

Anwar is the most relevant politician and leader for the good future of Malaysia. The ball is now in the BN court and only time will tell when the MP’s with conscience will begin to contribute to 112 and beyond.

If you understand the politics in Sarawak, perhaps then you can comment. Logistically, any opposition party, without proper machineries can't reach those rural voters. Even then, if you can reach...you can't bring your West Malaysian sentiments there amongst the rural folks. They don't know anything about those abundant resources that Sarawak has to improve their ways of living. They don't know about all these racial and religion issues that you guys are preaching here. There is no issue of temples, churches being dismantled. In fact, Christianity is the major religion there. Not Islam. So you can't talk to Sarawakians like how you preach here in West Malaysia.

And do you think Taib will want to improve as much as he wants there...noway! Give the rural folks education, give them good roads, educate them with excessive information...they will know how to speak out. He will contain them as they are.

But irregardless what Taib has done to ensure his family remains in power, he does know how to share the cake with the others too. And if things differ, Sarawakians unite as Sarawakians. That's the unity amongst races you don't see in West Malaysia. Visit Sarawak, you don't get to hear the segregation of racial mentality. Hardly.

Anwar and PKR cannot penetrate Sarawak. Sarawakians don't like him.

And neither does Sarawakians want UMNO there....this is party 'orang Malaya' as we call them.

And the idea of taking out 30 seats from BN Sarawak to join Anwar...a really good idea and plan needs to be in place. You think Taib would agree? Think again....

I would love to see Anwar take over. BN and UMNO have shown their true colours and are not to be trusted. I also wonder with the in-fighting in UMNO whether Ku Li or AAB wins, there will still be many uncertainties and instabilities for them to really do something good for the country.

For the people with a level head, they should support and hope that Anwar takes over since Anwar will need to work in collaboration with DAP and PAS - sort of a check-and-balance with the Opposition coalition. With UMNO and BN, I am not sure. What we have now is a bunch of untested newbies and a bunch of corrupted selfish people. They have not performed in the past, so what makes one think that they will now? If UMNO still controls, it is back to more marginalisation, more ISA, higher prices and not to mention more corruptions and cover-ups (sigh).

True, but if they ever were to learn from the Sabah experience where 1 million Muslim foreigners were imported into the predominantly Christian Sabah, given Malaysian ic and voted in UMNO/BN to wrestle the State from the locals, they should be wary of UMNO/BN. This can and will happen to Sarawak if UMNO/BN becomes strong. Already there are local BN MPs that hates UMNO and wants to cross over to the Opposition so I gather they have at least read history and hopefully learnt from other Sabah's mistakes before it is too late.

For the sake of the future of Sabah and Sarawak, let the Opposition wins the Government control. Kick UMNO and BN out. This is the time. It is NOW OR NEVER!

This what I understand from a summary of RPK analysis for next PM:
1. Anwar -
his accomplishmenthe:
- Prior to March 8 GE - plan on future defactor in East Malaysia including ask MP candidate to stay at BN first till further move. Draft his new economic agenda.
- During March 8 GE - Bring all apposition under one BA/BR umbrella to fight againts BN. Table out his new economic agenda.
- After March 8 GE - Coordinate all BA state to form state gov. Settle some conflict in some of BA state. Strenghten his economic agenda. Continue with defactor agenda.

2. Tengku Razaleigh
his accomplishmenthe:
- Prior to March 8 GE - plan to win his Gua Musang parlimentary seat.
- During March 8 GE - Bring all orang asli to ensure he secure Gua Musang parlimentary seat.
- After March 8 GE - Sit on his parlimentary winning seat! Was forced to announce his decision to challenge Pak Lah by TDM. Also been forced for again...virtual agreement 'one term PM' only.

After read thru all of above summary, I conclude Ku Li is another 'clone' of 'pak lah' that try to be build by TDM. The 1st clone was unsuccess after 4 years try and now TDM want to try his 2nd clone for another 5 years. TDM intention is only one, 'when I die...i want to see new UMNO still lead the country'. I just can't allow TDM to make M'sia as his chessboard! At first, TDM manage to control his soldier, later...the king, rook, bishop etc etc move itself and change the game to JUMANJI! Say No to One-Party One-Country System

Should they go for an absolute change and take their chances with a Barisan Rakyat federal government of should they keep Barisan Nasional in office on condition that there is a leadership change?

I don't care what they say. Anyway, all politicians are in someway "snakes". If that is what they say about Anwar or Ku Li, it does not matter to me.

Citizens should vest the Democratic power. We need to protect our own livelihood.

I am all for a Two-Party System. Electing Ku Li as PM again would mean BN and UMNO come back into power, it would be back to a One-Party One-Country System. It took Malaysia 50 years for this moment in time.

I know recession is onsetting the world, with America feeling it first. Of course changing a government would be risky but I am willing to take. Do we still want to spend another 50 years to inculcate a Genuine Democracy rather than a Sham Democracy? In my opinion, it is now or never. I want a Two-Party One Country System and this is only achievable through the PKR-DAP-PAS Barisan Rakyat Coalition.

Think about it guys and gals.

1. BMF fiasco happened when KULI was FM. A BBMB officer was murdered. Billions of ringgit, mind you, Rakyat's money was lost. When happened to the case!
1A. DSAI was FM during the 97-98 financial crises. TDM wanted to use State funds to bail out 'someone'. DSAI said "NO!" as this is Rakyat's money.

2. Injustice have be done to DSAI and his family. Did KULI voiced up, visited DSAI in prison?

3. Any leadership change in BN especially UMNO makes no difference as the philosophy of 'divide and rule' remains unchanged. Corruption, cronism, self-interest, UMNOputras is the call of the day.

4. For 37 years (1970-2007), NEP have not addressed the rural/urban poor but have on the contrary, made the UMNOputras elite super-rich! Thus making the general Malay populace poorer!

5. DSAI is no traitor to the Malay race. DSAI wants to make Malaysia a NATION and not just a COUNTRY to face the rapid changing world of globalisation.

6. DSAI has all the qualifications and credentials to be a credible PM.

To those asking above: Pak Lah can dissolve Parliament (with Agong's consent) after 3 years from the last election. The MBs (with Rulers consent) will have to dissolve the state governments. Parliament and the state governments need not all be dissolved at the same time.

Anwar or Ku Li if either becomes PM?!

When Ku Li becomes the next/a continuation of bn person to be PM, if they maintain their Parliament seats BUT only if they maintain....now it's like a 50/50 chance for them to be a ruling party and if the crossover is going to happen...game over!

However if bn remains and of course if Ku Li is the choice of bn, he will be the most powerful person in malaysia, an ex-finance Minister portfolio....one thing is clear that this powerful position needs to herald the real power that can shake the bn(umNO) goons, sit up, listen and obey the rights and interest of The PEOPLE. Otherwise the PM will be most likely shaking to the whim and fancies of the goons....then we will see our history book syllabus continue without CHANGE.

If the crossover is going to happen and if Anwar is the choice PM among the pact(being the most candidate inside them), we will see a new CHANGE in the malaysian politics in our history books. But many still wonder if it is the Anwar or the Changed Anwar after umNO when he heralds the power as he strongly wanted CHANGE after what happened to him in umNO. The Latter is the most likely, then we are going to be seeing the beginning of the REAL hope in the future of Malaysia. Probably with the People's Power steering the leadership in Malaysia more maturely, wisely, more changes for quality leadership.

A man who was imprisoned and became a Chief Minister, and if we are likely to see another imprisoned man becoming the next PM, then follow by the CHANGE of Guard in the Federal Government, The CHANGE of Malaysian History Begins!

Let's see and....we wanted CHANGE!

RPK, (3 years??) What happens if the opposition gets enough seats, say 112 seats (by cross-overs) within the next 3 months? Who then dissolves the parliment? Definitely, it won't be Pak Lah!

If ever such thing happen, there should NOT be any state elections for Penang, Kedah, Perak, Selangor and Kelantan..

This is mind boggling !

It would be a great feeling if MIC, Gerakan, MCA, PPP, IPF are mullings the idea of merger with DAP/PAS/PKR. It will be the biggest united multiracial party ever !

Not long after that, with a fair solid constitution that guarantee fairness, all parties will merge to become one true multiracial party. The new party will be name as Parti Bangsa Malaysia Bersatu (PBMB) or just Man.u (Malaysians United). No more Malay, Chinese, Indians, Punjabis, Ibans, kadazans, Chindians or Chibaians etc. It is just Malaysians or Non_Malaysians.

Sabahans & Sarawakians will follow suit.

HOW ABOUT THAT !

I don't believe in this cross-over thing. We should respect the voters choice. As for Razaleigh vs. Anwar, I would prefer Anwar. The reason is simple. Whether its Razaleigh or Abdullah or Najib, UMNO is still UMNO and their political ideology is still Malay supremacist, discrimination, and NEP. These are the core principles of UMNO. I would give Anwar a chance. No doubt he was from UMNO, but he has gone through trials and tribulations and I believe such trials have, at least, made him see things in a bigger and wider perspective. Razaleigh, on the other hand, after falling out with Mahathir, formed Semangat 46, another UMNO by another name.

The rakyat has done the right thing to deny Barisan Nasional their 2/3 majority in Parliament. This is the first step which was at one time almost an impossibility. Now that this is done, we all need to proceed to the next stage of voting BR Leader, Datok Seri Anwar Ibrahim into Parliament. This is imminent and should happen by May or June 2008 when Kak Wan vacates her seat. The next stage is to make Barisan Rakyat more appealing to the voters. This can be done various ways ie: in Parliamentary debates so that the rakyat can see what the Opposition is all about. Opposition is not created to cause trouble but it is there to ensure that the Government is kept at its' toe all the time. Parliamentary debate is an opportunity for the Barisan Rakyat to expose weaknesses within the government administration, all the malpractices, mis-management and corrupt practice, scandals, financial inconsistencies and failed projects – expose them so that the rakyat can be educated and see that the Opposition is on the side of good fighting evil. I know of some Kampong folks especially that of the older generations who still believe that DAP and the Opposition are communist. This of course is wrong and we all have a duty to change the mind-set and the mis-conception to this section of the populace.

I know no better person to get the message delivered than Anwar himself. He is highly respected, his speeches can do a lot of damage to the Barisan Nasional which is evident by the near collapse of Pak Lah's government in the last election. Let Anwar lead the Opposition and within months, you can bet your last million that he will go for the jagular – in for the kill. Members of the Opposition must also stay close to the peoples' heart. They must understand the feelings and the problems faced by rakyat. Their financial hardship, lack of facilities, parents who had to borrow to finance their children's school fee, university students who l heard had to work to supplement their financial commitment, health issues, law and order, ISA – those who are still in prison for speaking out against injustice and many many more issues that are of concern to the rakyat. These must be tackled by BR MPs. Once the Opposition take centre stage, there will be defection from UMNO and other Barisan Nasional party to join the good side.

haiya..too long space cant take it anymore...smilies/smiley.gif

cont...

I have a feeling if 7 seats is all that we need, this should not pose a problem and there is always a possibility that some of the disgruntled Barisan Nasional members would changed ship providing Sabah and Sarawak play the game together. Rakyat need to be cajoled and they need to see reasoning why it is important that we kick Barisan Nasional out . They also need convincing that the Opposition can do a good or better job given the opportunity to govern. This need to be relayed to them so that they will have the confidence to put the future or our beloved country in the hands of the Opposition. At the same time the rakyat need to see what kind of people who are serving for them in Parliament at the moment. Are they money swindler, are they compulsive womaniser, are they abusing their position for financial gain, are they morons who cant handle interview by Al-Jazeera, are they law breakers who tried to bring money into Australia without declaring them, are they proxy businessman while wearing politician clothes. These are some of the issues that need to be addressed and challenged by the Opposition Parliamentarians and get them exposed. I bet there are members of Barisan Nasional who are not aware what is happening within their camp or even if they knew it, they will take a silent approach to make sure that these will not further damage the party's 'intergrity' which is slowly eroding away.

Anwar is da man. His relentless effort to meet people in Sabah and Serawak and within the Peninsular is a sign that he is serious about getting the BR into Office. Not being dis-respectful to Tengku Razaleigh, Anwar is the peoples' hero. He represents the unfortunate, people of different race, culture and religion. He will fight for their causes. He's been in and out of hell and he understood what 'hell' is all about. I am sure that he will not want any Malaysians to be in his position before – deprived of everything including the sunlight, good food etc for 6 solid years. But now he is out, he is standing tall and he is fighting back He's a political animal.

I am confident that if Anwar Ibrahim can make a good impression in Parliament when he takes over Kak Wan which l think he will, with a little bit of luck, play his game right, keep his nose clean, we will see him take over as the next Malaysian PM.

Barisan Nasional will lose their balls just thinking what kind of scandals that will be exposed. The guilty ones have no-where to hide. They lost 2/3 majority and they cannot silent BR. The House of Parliament will erupt when their scandals is exposed one by one. You just need to ask someone to open the cupboard to see the skeleton. That person is DSAI.

umno in sabah has only been negative, with increasing racial and religious divides. enough! give sabah back to its people before it loses its lustre.. peninsular rulers dont belong there for they do not understand its subjects well enough, or dont care...

and stay out of sarawak too. it's a beautiful peaceful multiracial place as it is now.

Dear RPK,

Thanks for telling us about the story behind the Terengganu MB incident and why Tuanku resist our PM's choice. I would say Tuanku's action is wise and brave.

I just back from Terengganu last week. Surprisingly, I found that Terengganu really looks like a "poor state" (I thought it should be very well develop since it's controled by BN/UMNO). To me, Terengganu is poorer comparing to Kelantan. So when next time people are telling me that Kelantan is undeveloped and poor, I would tell them :"So do Terengganu which managed by BN for so many years!"

Brilliant ! Brilliant ! Brilliant !

Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim, come April, will be the people's PM afterall.

What a brilliant move. No hopping MP required.

Why haven't I thought about that brave checkmate moves before !

DAP , PAS & others hold on to your seat. Watch the checkmate moves. No need to sacrifice the QUEEN too. Watch the Castles and the Bishops.

Genius and absolutely mind boggling.
