Guan Eng enggan keluar RM100 ribu PDF Print
Monday, 17 March 2008 13:54

Abdul Halim Mohd Rashid

"Dia (Lim) jawab: 'Susahlah, kalau nak pindah kena perbaiki. Terpaksa belanja sampai RM100 ribu.

UMNO and BN should learn from Lim Guan Eng. Look at all the other MBs of BN and it will tell you that they just cannot wait to move into their big MB mansions. Guan Eng, you have my respect and support!

I have a lot of respect for LGE and was celebrating when the present government came into power.
Now what irritates me is that - why is it necessary to spend RM100K on the repairs of the Chief Minister's house and how did the previous CM live if the mansion was in such a sorry state?
Hope some light is shed on this.

Good. I'm proud of LGE. Have him now convert that house into an Orphanage home. Hell !!! Turn ALL exco houses into Orphanages/ Homes for Battered Women, Rape Victims, Domestic Violence victims and such. There's plenty to go around. Imagine all 5 States (6 if you count KL) have new and superior facilities for previously ignored dometic issues. Has anyone visited the pathetic state of all the homes which I've mentioned? If not, go make a trip and see the sub-standard conditions by which we make these poor victims live.

We are adopting some humane and addressing social issues. For more info, shoot an e-mail to Labisman, and I will contact you myself on this issues. Or, contact "Sisters in Islam" (PJ state) and speak with Razlina. She'll know what to do. Tell her Michael Chick sent you.

Honestly, please, everyone, don't hate me, but I think he should renovate the place and move in. No need luxurious renovation, just be moderate and make the place liveable. I think we can all agree that that will be acceptable?

We really need to appreciate good politicians. We don't want them to get jumbo jets but we want them to live comfortably and get a reasonable salary. All civil servants, in fact, should be paid well to discourage corruption and to make them want to keep their job.

We should not expect people like Guan Eng to keep serving us without anything in return. He might do it for 1 year, 2 years, 5 years, but we cannot expect people like him to sacrifice until he dies. If so, sooner or later he might have a burnout. It is very demanding to run a state, I am sure.

As long as the expenses are moderate and reasonable, I think it is acceptable. But no personal jumbo jets please. Business class flight, OK. No personal jet.

But I'm the kinda person who would give you more if you refuse my first offer. So, it's just my personal opinion.

Transparency should easily save the state many millions. 100k is hardly enough to do up a condominium and i believe Penang people would not begrudge him 300k to make his official residence respectable.

Go ahead. Just be transparent and do a jolly good job for Penang.

Simplicity of the leaders is greatly appreciated.
I think most leaders who have taken the lead of the respective states just need some time to adjust their lifestyle with this new responsibility. Some may be overzealous in serving the state well and may have uttered accidentally or intentionally on some issues.
As responsible and considerate citizens of Malaysia, I urge everyone to give them benefit of the doubt and give them some time and space to familiarise themselves with the way they should operate as government rather than opposition.
Please don't follow the losers aka Barisan Nasional aka UMNO local leaders who are out to cause racial tension on statements made by Guan Eng and others.
Have some trust on these new leaders, they are, well new to this role.
They have pledged to be fair to ALL MALAYSIANS. So give them time and space to prove it.
Don't discard them just yet, I foresee a great future for all.
We have given a certain loser, 50 years to prove themselves. so 5 years is not an issue.
So , please have patience and well be heading the right track.
UMNO is in self destruct mode already, so let them be, embrace the new future, a new dawn, a new hope for all.

Actually, I would like to add something for Malaysia Today's readers to consider.

Assuming political leaders like Guan Eng does a really good job - I mean ok, the pay of CM is probably not that bad, but hardly matches that in Corporate sector. Is there a reason why political offices should not pay a good rate? Just look at Singapore - that's probably an extreme case where they attract the best brains to be in the Cabinet by paying CEO equivalent rates - we probably need not go so far here but that's certainly something to look into in the long run isn't it?

Reason why I raise this point is - idealism should not be the only motivation for a leader. Good leaders should be properly rewarded so as to avoid temptations of corrupt money.

Actually, what Penang needs to do is to make a lot, A LOT of money !

Penang needs to make the money to finance its own 2nd bridge, its own mass-transit solution, its own pollution reduction programs, its own green-lung projects, and so on.

Penang needs at least 10 Billions to do it. And since Penang isn't going to get any money from Putrajaya anymore, Penang got to earn the money.... by NOT raising tax !

So how Penang gonna do it ? We can copy a chapter from Singapore - Singapore makes money from Temasek, and Penang can set up a similar enterprise, making money while developing Penang.

I ain't saying that it'd be a smooth sail all the way, but we gotta start doing it now.

If anyone interested in this, drop me a line, let's discuss it over ... let's see what we can do for our beloved state.

TTYL !

I live in island glades penang, very near to our CM LGE house..During the GE12 campaign period, he is staying there which make sense to me but i can't imagine he is still staying there even now he has become the CM ! Those houses in island glades are around 15 to 20 years old, and frankly speaking, LGE house is not really great compare to other houses in that area in term of renovation and etc, he deserves a better house than that !

Why is there a need to spend so much to repair the house? The new CM must ask Dr. Koh what has he done to the house when Dr. Koh was staying in the house. Or did the servants and gardeners deliberately carted away or damaged some of the facilities in the CM's house after Dr. Koh moved out?

I think, if its just limited to RM100,000, we should ask the new CM to spend it. He is required, as a CM to received important foreign guests now and then, and this CM's mansion is the place to do it.

Even ordinary people are spending more than RM100,000 to upgrade/refurbish their simple double-storey house nowadays, and you can't do very much refurbishment with this amount.

What do the other bloggers say?
