DAP wants Anwar as alternative PM PDF Print
Sunday, 16 March 2008 21:27

The DAP wants Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to be the alternative prime minister and help transform Malaysia into becoming a healthy functioning democratic country.

Its secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said the party chose Anwar because it believed that he was the most suitable person to complete the transformation.

Asked why Anwar, Lim, who is also Penang Chief Minister, told reporters that the former deputy prime minister was the common choice.

"He is widely accepted by everyone in the Opposition,” he said. "We hope he is allowed to take his rightful place in Parliament the soonest possible," said Lim.

Speaking at the one-day DAP national leadership convention, Lim urged party leaders and members not to rest on their laurels but must starting working as from now.

"Please remember that the national mission to transform Malaysia into a healthy functioning democracy is not yet won,” he said. "Only when there is political equality, equal economic opportunity, social justice, freedom from fear and corruption can this mission succeed. To do that, all members and leaders have to redouble their efforts to be a "friend" of the people to complete the national transformation of Malaysia.”

Lim said the DAP would continue to work with its allies in the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and non-governmental organisations to complete the transformation.

The DAP, in its aim to be dynamic, would double its membership by adding another 100,000 members before the next general election.

"This is challenging but not impossible,” he said. "After all, was it not considered impossible for DAP to win power in Penang together with PKR?"

"But we cannot be complacent. Just as Malaysians voted for DAP in this elections, they can just as easily vote the party out should we fail to deliver," he said, reminding them of how the DAP won by a record number of state seats in Penang in 1990 but was punished in one of their worst electoral defeat within a single term in 1995.

Earlier, party national chairman Karpal Singh said he had confident that the party would be succeed in leading the Penang government.

"It is not easy to run a state government but we have the people who are much better than the Barisan Nasional in doing so," he said. - NST

The task facing Guan Eng is daunting.

Penang will face a lot of hurdle from the central government operated by UMNO. No matter it's in term of finance, licensing, or anything that you can imagine.

DAP / BR has promised a lot to the people, and people are waiting to see how DAP / BR is going to deliver their promise.

Therefore, Guan Eng, as the CM of Penang, please concentrate on making Penang a better place to live and to do business. As for the others - like Alternative PM and such - please leave it to others.

Thank you !

Dear RPK, you have won my highest respect and admiration for being transparent. you walk the talk. you practise what you preach.

For that i wish to award you: "The Transparent & Truthful Malaysian Award"

its my own award to you.

Let all the other BR politicians see and do like wise.

My wish is that, there will be a level of uniformity in the change and transformations of all 5 BR States. Sort of like a dry run to when we the people take over completely from BN in the future

As for PM, Let God put His choice of the person in the hearts of the poeple. A person who is God fearing and Malaysian Oriented... well thats another award!

It would be great to have Anwar as our PM, but right now, as long as he's still barred from being an YB, all BR component parties have to do their best to fulfill the promises that they've made to the rakyat. This is what the people want to see first. There should not be anymore bickering. When Anwar is free to be a YB again after next month, then only we see what happens. So for now, BR has to continue working very hard while getting advise from Anwar.

When the DSAI/Mahathir saga took place in 1998, I relied on MSM and word-of-mouth and I must say that I believed what I read and what I was told by pro-Government friends. I did, at that time had and still have the highest regards for Wan Azizah for standing by her man.

My opinion about DSAI has changed since I started to seriously hate the Government and getting online on a daily basis now. I even reminded myself how I instantly admired DSAI when he gave a talk at my boarding highschool in Seremban in 1976, shouting "The Rising Tide of Islam".

I do not see anyone more capable to be Malaysia's PM at the moment but DSAI. HOWEVER, I think we should be 'cautiously optimistic' at the prospect. This, I say because: 1. DSAI was the Government, and we know that he knows all the ill-practices of our Government, so I hope he will not go back to the old ways;
2. Izzah is an MP, so, we should be guaranteed that none of the 'family affair' nonsense takes place once DSAI is in power.

Thank you.

I feel the call by YB Lim to get DSAI as Alternative Pm is a good move. This way the tussle is less challenging and its clear DAP besides PKR have someone in common to lead BR to greater height. Theres no need to get UMNO bloc to form a bigger front that will eventually allow DSAI to be the nation`s PM. As DSAI himself had said earlier,he will never go back or have anything to do with UMNO. Thats fine, come next GE if everthing is done rite,DSAI will automatically be the prime choice .Just get the act rite and stick to whats in the declaration. We,the rakyat will be behind you come rain or shine!

i disagree. our revered leader nik aziz nik mat should be the prime minister in waiting. he has led the state of kelantan well all these years and is the most capable. anwar ibrahim can be his deputy as he is still young and lacks the maturity at this stage.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, Nik aziz is more matured spiritually, but you forgot that the country needs a all-rounder, in politics, economy, and foreign affairs. Able to communicate with foreigners for FDI and have good relationship with other countries for economic coorporations.

Who else can do that ?

Totally makes sense and pragmatic too !! DSAI is the only one in the PKR-PAS-DAP BARISAN RAKYAT who has had previous experience in actually governing Malaysia, as the DPM, Education Minister, Finance Minister, etc.

He is the best suited candidate to lead BR to be the next Govt. for Malaysia !!! I am all for it !!
