I just want to say 2 things:

1) First, is to congratulate PAS for making such a meaningful gesture. However, PAS's gesture could undermine the creation of a truly fair distributive system. What PAS is doing could be seen as asuming that Selangor Government will not, within its ambit, help those in need. It would be just like MCA setting up TAR College to shore up its popularity even though it is the FEderal GOvernment who should have addressed the issue of equal educational opportunity for ALL.

2) Second, I am not certain if NEP is IN the constitution. No doubt, the constitution provides certain special privileges to the Malay Muslims such as government vacancies, educational quotas, official religion and language, but the constitution does not cover 30% shareholding for bumis, or directly negotiated contracts without open tender, or discounts in buying property. The first few components from government vacancies to language are not really a part of NEP, and neither are the last few items from shareholding to discounts part of the Constitution. They must be clearly segregated if there is to be a meaningful reengineering of the Malaysian economy that:
a) does not alienate Malay rights in the Constitution
b) rids of corruption by having open tender
c) a plan that continues to help those in need

Perhaps one of the most important things for the opposition coalition to sit down and agree on is having a common terminology. It does not help that PAS says we want NEP but reformed, and DAP saying we don't want NEP but continue to help the poor. To me, it means the same thing, but the words will be exploited by BN compliant mainstream media to demonise DAP or PAS.

The late Lim Goh Thong? Vincent Tan? Patrick Badawi? Eric Cheah? Ananda Krisnan?...
the list will be enless...

The malays?...Umno Putra...collecting the "commissions" of the mega projects given to the above names' proxies...

Maybe that is why MCA, GERAKAN, MIC, PPP and the rest are not against NEP...

The poor remain poor.. Birds of same feathers still flocks together...

NEP minus the above people is still relevant if we stick to its original "Two" spear Objectives. For those who doesn't know what NEP is, let me write it done for you to read rather than to spit:

1. To eradicate poverty (It means, all poor Rakyat immaterial of race)

2. To restructure the Society (making sure people live like true Malaysian citizen and not like birds of same feathers, whom some cannot even understand the national language even after 50 years of Merdeka! ...the policy intent to restructure interracial Trust, common language, respect, freedom to live, having mixed community, multi-ethnic business companies... etc etc)

Isn't PAS is right when they say some of the policy is still relevant?
Islam forbids oppression and favoritism but Islam helps the poor and fairness. Islam does not allow corruption and illegal commissions...

NEP was a 20 year (1970-1990) plan. Its target was to make the individual BumiPurta nationwide to hold 30% equity of the nation asset.. by 1990, the target was not achieved, not even reached 5% individuals... why? because of Ali Baba concepts created by the UMNO putra... which made "many" few Chinese (and indian) millionaire to be Billionaires...

Hmmm... The malays? On record there is only 3-5%(which does not include people like Najib, TDM, PakLah etc-etc)... Are they billionaires too? I wish I can know who are their proxies and accout keeper and check their accounts at swiss Banks and asset overseas... How I wish I could....

In case some of you guys don't know, Nik Aziz has been allocating certain amount of his allowance into some public fund. If I am not mistaken, he also encourage others PAS MP in Kelantan to do the same but not sure whether it is a compulsary or not.

Datuk Dr. Hassan Ali your gesture is really good but -1) it should not have been a directive to the councillors, 2) rakyat are not bothered about the allowances, thus what is due to them is legally theirs,3)rakyat's only concern is that they do not take anything that is meant for the rakyat, 4)these councillors too have their families to take care, let's not limit them - which is due to them and force them to do other things.
WE are happy for them to have what is due to them - WE are only UNHAPPY when what is due to the people is siphoned off.

Syabas PAS!!! This should be emulated by ALL YB's in Malaysia. A positive step forward towards a more caring Malaysian society. Why didn't UMNO came up with this all these years?? Guess they were too busy thinking about their own pockets... One up for PAS. One down for UMNO and BN.

LGE:
There is no reason to stress the removal of NEP in Penang. In fact, you should uphold it at any cost to keep the 30%! why?

Actually you are against the Umnoputras. You just didn't know how to express it properly.

So far only Umnoputras got all the contracts in Penang. By using an open tender, ALL MALAYS, especially the good ones will benefit, not just the Umnoputras.

This way, you can really uphold the integrity and help the good Malays rather than a small group (umnoputra). On the other hand, all the other races if they are good will now actually gain more (now actual 70%), only if they are good of course.

Therefore, Penang will win. The Penang Malays will win.. In return, Penangites will support DAP more!

Also, please be humble, don't be too arrogant. Focus on the point. I don't wish to see a Ketuanan Chinese leader..

Personally I dont mind the reps spending all allowances due to them for themselves. They deserve it.Afterall working as ADUN is not cheap..They have to spend at least 12 hours per day if not more for rakyat.Furthermore BA ADUNs are suppose to be full time reps..

I think 30% cut is too much...
