Congratulations Malaysia! Now let's move on PDF Print
Thursday, 13 March 2008 01:27

The Malaysia Hindu Sangam extends our heartfelt felicitations and sincere congratulations to all Malaysians, for a most successful General Elections, which was conducted in a most peaceful, harmonious and mature fashion.

All parties - the Government, the Opposition parties, the Elections Commission, the Police and most importantly, the Rakyat, deserve full praise for ensuring that the democratic process of our nation has been effected most efficiently.

The outcome of the General Elections reflects the will of the people, and we must now move on with the business of ensuring a progressive and harmonious nation for all Malaysians from all walks of life.

Malaysia Hindu Sangam, being the representative body of the Hindu Community of Malaysia, is committed to working closely with the Federal Government as well as all State Governments in addressing the socio-cultural development issues and problems affecting all Malaysians – the Hindu community in particular. Our goal is to facilitate the continued activation of many of our programmes designed to improve the quality of life of the Malaysian Hindu Community. This includes improving appreciation of human values and religious knowledge amongst our youth and children, as well as welfare based activities such as free tuition classes for children from poor families, food aid, medical assistance, legal aid, etc. These programmes are largely activated in conjunction with temples all over Malaysia.

In this respect, we call on the new Government – both at the Federal and State levels – to urgently engage with Hindu Sangam in overcoming some of pending regulatory issues affecting several temples around the country.

Certainly, this will ensure that the temples are able to continue effectively playing their roles as partners with the Government to ensuring a progressive, harmonious Malaysian community with strong moral and ethical values.

We also call on the newly appointed Prime Minister, YAB Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, to immediately release the 5 leaders of Hindraf, who are being held without trial under the ISA. One of them has even been elected to Parliament by the Rakyat, and therefore has immediate responsibilities.
