KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu, who crashed to a shock defeat in the Sungai Siput parliamentary seat, will continue as the MIC president and restructure and rebuild the party.

In a statement, he said he was not feeling unhappy but reminded the MIC members that they were in a very challenging period.

We have to move in the direction where the wind is blowing and we hope a day will come when the new wave will be with us,” he said.

Samy Vellu, who had been the Sungai Siput MP since 1974, lost to PKR's Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj by 1,821 votes.

He thanked the people of Sungai Siput for supporting him in the last eight elections since 1974.

I am very grateful for being given the opportunity to serve this constituency and I believe I have done whatever possible to make the people of Sungai Siput happy.

But times have changed and every good thing has to come to an end but there is always a new beginning,” he said.

Meanwhile secretary-general Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam, who was one of three MIC leaders to have retained their parliamentary seats, said the MIC has to take cognisance of the results and the fact that the majority of the Indian community did not support the party in the elections.

This is the first time we have suffered such a loss,” he said.

Dr Subramaniam, who retained the Segamat parliamentary seat, said that the next four years would be challenging to rebuild the confidence and to instil in the people the relevance of the MIC to the Indian community.

He said Samy Vellu was the president of MIC and should continue dictating the direction of the party.

MIC information chief Datuk M. Saravanan, who won the Tapah parliamentary seat, said it was normal for parties to win or lose seats in elections.

Even Keadilan lost in many seats in the last general election but this time, it made some gains. Winning or losing is not all that the game is about but more about serving the people,” he said.

Saravanan, who is also Federal Territory MIC chief, said this was the best time to prove that “we are here not for position or power but merely to serve the people”. - STAR

WTF Samy i thought u said this is your last term, now that you had lost please la step down. But if you continue, that will be better, because the Malaysian Indian community will hate you and MIC even more. So yes stay on and don't expect the people will believe you anymore, you have had enough times before.

The Indian community will bear the brunt of his service to the people, just as the Indian community bore the brunt of his representation and service for many years. Please be careful especially Indian opposition members.

If MIC has been serving the people - it would not have faced this outcome.
When you serve yourself instead of what you were supposed to do then this will be the outcome.
It is time to leave race based parties - think as a Malaysian and join one which is not polarised.
Samy, just take a long retirement - it will do you good.

Samy truly got no value in his words. 1st he said this is his last term and also if the people don't like him and vote him out he will retire for good.

Hello samy the people of Sg Siput and Indians of Malaysia had spoken with strong conviction. So pergi la..

If there is someone who are very low esteem, no self dignity and lowest self respect of all in this world, i would personnaly point at this Semi "No" Value !

He is lost ! Now he should beat off the road and let someone else clean all the shits he placed at MIC. He have under-estimated Makkal Sakthi (peoples power)!

He messed with the Tsunami wave of Hindraf's Makkal Sakthi and now he have recieved the outcome. People of MIC Organisation Members should demand him to be sacked now before more shame appears !

p.s. Indians have proven they are the King Maker ! Wipping out MIC totally out from Malaysias Political History !

Incredible. How could Samy stay on? How will MIC rejuvenate? Seriously, Indians are lost as far as BN is concerned.

People, nothing has changed.
After the initial excitement of AAB being lost for words and needing to be propped up by Najib and Vellu theatrical disappearing out of the back door to take a bath with a bye bye, AAB refused to resign and horror of horrors,Vellu continues to lead MIC lapdog party and Lim KY refuse Koh TK offer to resign.
They keep on stressing they won the elections and forming the new government.
What does that tell you?

It tells me very clearly that they still continue to ignore the people's wishes and they dont accept the election results whatsoever.
It says Samy tell Indians to FO,we at MIC dont need you.
You are irrelevant.
It tells me they are too proud and arrogant to admit they been well and trully whipped.

The next thing they will do is to blame others for their defeats.

That Kelantanese fool Annuar Musa already started blaming outstation voters bringing back germs and infections from the West Coast.
What will they say next?
Phantom voters were voting for the BR?

So people, lets get them out of government next round and put the issue beyond doubt, once and for all.
