SHAH ALAM: A retired army officer is crying foul after learning that he will have to cast his vote at a polling station some 30km away from his area.
For the past five elections, Lt-Col (R) Kudri Siraj has been casting his vote at the Section 6 primary school in Shah Alam. He stays in the area.
But this time around, his voting centre is at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Tamil), Setia Alam, Section U13, Shah Alam.
The 69-year-old former serviceman, who is now a company director, is not amused.
"I don't even know where the place is. I heard it is about 20 or 30km away from my house," said Kudri. He said when he lodged a complaint at the Selangor Election Commission office in Kompleks PKNS here yesterday, the person manning the counter admitted it was an error.
"They printed out a different list that shows my house address as the one in my identity card which is in Section 6, Shah Alam.
"But they could not explain why the electoral roll showed my locality as Rumah 2 P/J K R North Hummock in Setia Alam," said Kudri.
However, Kudri said all hope is not lost as his new voter status still puts him in the same parliamentary (P108 -- Shah Alam) and state (N40 -- Kota Anggerik) constituencies.
"I may have to travel a bit, but at least I can still vote for the candidate who will oversee development in Shah Alam." - NST
