PUTRAJAYA: Ladies, make sure your nails are free of nail polish on March 8.

Otherwise, be prepared to have it removed from your manicured nails.

Election Commission secretary Datuk Kamaruzaman Mohd Noor said indelible ink will be used on the right index finger and the nail has to be free of water-proof substances for the ink to work.

"Just for that one day, we need you to keep your fingers free of nail polish," he said, adding that that this new procedure is to safeguard against multiple voting.

He also announced that candidates submitting their nomination papers on Feb 24 must include a statutory declaration of stamp duty payment.

This is to be done on Form 5 (for candidates contesting in parliamentary seats) and Form 5A (for candidates contesting in state seats), with stamp duties of RM10.

The validation or franking of the stamps can be done at any Inland Revenue Board duty stamp office nationwide.

Kamaruzaman reminded candidates that this is a requirement under Section 4(1) of the Stamp Act 1949 and Regulation 4 (7) of Election Regulations (1981).

Under the Election Regulations, returning officers can reject nomination papers if the forms submitted do not meet all the requirements. - NST

I have voted in India, they dont have any problems there with nail polish, the ink is a large dot, that is put at the base of the nail and the skin of the right index finger. Anyways cant understand how is it possible for multiple voting, this is indelible ink, and only a small part touches the nail, the rest of the mark is on the finger, unless you remove the top layer of the skin on your finger!!!
Anyways, some concession for free and fair elections, so better not complain!!!
Just do it ladies, duty towards the country!!!
Make it a vote against corruption, nepotism, cronyism.

Hope they also use it for postal voters. By the way why are all these rules coming out at the last moment. Shouldn't these be announced long ago esp the statuary declaration.

If the GE commission is dare, please asked the Muslims women NOT to wear the
the Islamic Veil or Purdah (burqa) for oneday because of INDETIFICATIONS.

See what is the outcome then ?.....Surely BN looses with Zero for making
a mockery decisions.

A Fatwah will be out to curse the GE Commission and there will be mourning.

Another Project by Malaysia Islamic Hadhari Government teaching to vote in
Islamic way perhaps for the Non-Muslims voter's,because the Malay girls don't
use nail polish and if anybody does there are called Non-Muslims or murtad.

Careful with your word! A muslim doesn't become a "murtad" that easily. The indelible ink should not covered the top layer of the nails so as to prevent the water from touching them during the "wudhu" that is washing hands before praying. But if that indelible ink penetrates the nail like the inai does than there's no harm wearing it.From what I heard it does work like "inai" ;it penerates the inner top layer of the nails so muslims can put it on. No harm done!
