The 2008 polls should mark the end of “Abdullah Badawi the nice guy” By Little Bird
Who is Karim Raslan? Karim Raslan is a lawyer cum writer who is considered 'halal' by the Badawi administration. In other words he is a 'Gomen man' who has gone twice around the roundabout. Karim is also a member of the Brotherhood of the Limp Wrist. This does not mean that Karim will be appearing in any of the 'soon to be released' videos. It means that he has a limp style of writing which appears to say one thing but indicates another. Words like flexible and contortionist also come into mind.
In his latest 'Ceritalah' (which sounds so 'auw') column Karim stretches his soft style to greater degrees of flexibility. On the face of it he appears to support the BN team. That is purely 'cari makan'. But it is not difficult to read between the lines at all.
Karim starts off today's column by saying :"Still, the Barisan Nasional’s extraordinary majority (won in 2004) will be reduced."
Well this is no breaking with the pack really because even the Two Muhammad fellow has said the same thing. And Two Muhammad is none other than Ketua Penerangan of UMNO. Then Karim takes the first shot at Abdullah Badawi : "And, as befits an electoral contest led by the mild-mannered Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, the issues will also be similarly low-key and understated."
This is just limp wristed style which means Badawi is an idiot. Then Karim takes a well aimed shot at the UMNO-BN leadership in total : "However, there are far too many Cabinet ministers who have failed to adapt to the changing demands of our society."
Thank you for saying it as it is Karim. This is actually muscle talk. And coming just 18 days before the polls, the timing is ok too. Then through more double speak Karim says that with the exception of Keng Yaik and Norwawi Effendi, the other Cabinet members have no sense : "Still, credit must be given to Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik and Datuk Seri Effendi Norwawi for having the good sense to leave the political stage of their own accord."
In other words Karim feels that the other Cabinet members may soon be forced to leave of other peoples' accord. We will vote for that anyday bro.
Finally Karim minces less words when he says : "Indeed some Cabinet figures have become electoral liabilities – so much so that their continued retention may well undermine the Barisan’s chances of going forward."
Yep. We do submit to this point of view. Badawi, Rafidah, Nazri, Zam, Samy, Velu, Samy Vellu, Dato Seri Samy Velu, Hishamuddin, Nor Mohd Yakob, Najib, Azmi Khalid, Ka Ting, etc have totally outlived their usefulness. Time for them all to go.
Karim cannot help pointing out that the UMNO leadership are low-grade drop outs grubbing around for Gomen contracts. Here he is : Well, the Barisan (and more importantly Umno) needs leaders who have passion, intelligence and empathy. We don’t need low-grade dropouts grubbing around for government contracts."
Karim should know better. Badawi is a drop out from the Economics Faculty at the University of Malaya. Having failed in Economics he switched to Islamic Studies where he earned a General Degree. Now his S-I-L and son are leading the charge grubbing around for Gomen contracts. ECM Libra, Monsoon Cup, Scomi, Batu Kawan land grab, Iraq Oil for Food Scandal etc are all right up their kazoo. Then Karim slips back into limp wrist mode : "Over the past four years Malaysians have shown themselves to be increasingly confused and contradictory when it comes to the type of leadership they’ve expected of Abdullah."
What Karim really means is that it is Badawi who is increasingly confusing and contradictory.
He says, "it’s becoming increasingly clear that Malaysians (and especially the non-Malays) no longer want Abdullah to be so “laissez faire”. Nowadays we expect him to intervene (and firmly) against the hotheads within his own party and certain commercial interests perceived to be greedy. Moreover we need him to correct and discipline the countless “little Napoleons” in the civil service."
A diplomatic way of saying that Badawi has lost control of everything. The PM is sleeping on the job. The next shot is aimed at Badawi's total lack of direction : "we want to feel that Abdullah has an overall strategy for the country economically and politically". Sorry lah bang. Badawi got no strategy. Got no otak.
He concludes with "The 2008 polls should mark the end of “Abdullah Badawi the nice guy”. This may be read as the end of the nice guy in Badawi. But since he is no nice guy, we will read it as it is written : "the end of Badawi the nice guy." Amen bro, Amen.
