The president of the Malaysian Syariah Lawyers Association (PGSM) has apologised to former Perlis mufti Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin.

It is learnt the apology by Mohamad Isa Abd Ralip was over a memorandum the association submitted to the King protesting against Dr Mohd Asri’s proposed appointment as head the Islamic Da’wah Foun-dation Malaysia (Yadim).

According to close aides, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mej-Jen (R) Datuk Jamil Khir Ba‑ harom mediated a meeting that involved Mohamad Isa, Dr Mohd Asri and Islamic Development De-partment (Jakim) director-general Datuk Wan Muhammad Sheikh Abdul Aziz in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Dr Mohd Asri told mStar later that the meeting went well and they had ironed out the matter.

However, he declined to comment further as a token of respect to the others involved in the meeting.

He said this was in line with the teachings of Islam that emphasised forgiveness and acceptance.

“I hope something good will come out from this meeting. Now we shall wait for PGSM for up- dates,” Dr Mohd Asri said.

The meeting, which lasted more than an hour, was arranged after Mohamad Isa stated his readiness to meet Dr Mohd Asri in person and explain the matter.

Meanwhile, it is understood that Jakim’s involvement in the meeting was over a statement by its deputy director-general Zamihan Mat Zain Al-Ghari accusing Dr Mohd Asri of forging his syariah qualifications.

Now this is the type of Moslem we want. " Islam emphasized forgiveness and acceptance.

How to iron out the matter when the person who made the serious accusations was not even able to confront Dr Asri in a face-to-face meeting? So conspicuously absent. That stands out glaringly, don't you think so? Says so much about that deputy dir-gen guy.

They acted like the Taliban and like to throw shit and flex their muscle. For once, they have thrown the shit into a running fan and it hit right back onto their own face. Serves them right.

Syariah Lawyers Association? Dont they have crooked lawyers, those barred by the Malaysian Bar, practicing in their midst? So you can judge their moral standards from there!

This has nothing to do with Islamic teaching of forgiving or accpeting one`s mistake that led to the compromise. It is the sheer mistake and inorder not to implicate the 1Malaysia concept, someone have to be the scapegoat. What a cheap stunt ?

Dr Asri should not be too forgiving to people who always throws mud at others hoping that something might stick regardless of the truth or couldn't be bothered about the truth of whatever was being thrown around which might affect the victim's credibility or freedom.

If they are allowed to throw accusations as and whenever they wish regardless of the accuracies of their accusations and later, able to withdraw and apologised for their wrongful statements, then, they is no incentive for them to change their way of doing things and will never change their method of operations because it is most effective and damaging when such statements are first made and damage is already done by the time they apologise and withdraw. They would have already achieved their main objective without having to face any consequences of such devious behaviour.

It's already quite common practice nowadays with these sorts of strategies to damage one's reputation without having to bear the cost!

Dr. Mohd Asri,

Don't buckle and don't kowtow to them just because they have apologized. Ask them to retract the letter sent to the YD Pertuan Agung. The damaged had been done and it is irreversible.

Proceed to sue those idiots who had tarnished your image. . .! Sue also Utusan Malaysia, the UMNO's mouthpiece of those liars!

Forgive and acceptance is all well and good. However, a wrong has been done and punishment must be meted out. PGSM must be sued and made to pay for damages to Asri. As for Zamihan Mat Zain Al-Ghari. he should resign for making wild accusations if he can't prove any of it. And, by the way, what is his qualifications for being the Deputy Director General of JAKIM?
