(The Star) - The man who caused the political storm now blowing through PAS is not Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat but a law professor from Universiti Islam Antarabangsa (UIA) who calls himself “a small-time academic”.

Prof Dr Abdul Aziz Bari , who lectures constitutional law, said he was shocked but did not regret that his views on PAS politics had caused a party crisis with Nik Aziz asking president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang to resign.

Dr Abdul Aziz’s views, which were published in the Malay daily Sinar Harian, were used by Nik Aziz as grounds that PAS president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang was a weak and indecisive leader who had not provided direction for the party and did not dare to act against leaders who were detrimental to the party’s cause.

The PAS spiritual adviser had also agreed with Dr Abdul Aziz that Hadi should go.

The academic also named deputy president Nasharudin Mat Isa, secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali and Selangor chief Datuk Dr Hasan Ali as “problematic leaders” who entertained ties with Umno.

Nik Aziz subsequently called for an EGM to settle these issues.

When contacted yesterday, Dr Abdul Aziz said the controversy would be good for PAS. “I have always supported the idea of a two-party system in this country and you need parties like PAS to be strong to make it happen,” he said.

“My main aim is to make the system stronger so that one day the Constitution will be held high up.” Interestingly, the UIA don has been invited as a key speaker at the PAS political seminar that is being held on Saturday to address the concerns raised by Nik Aziz. Dr Abdul Aziz said he stood by what he said about Hadi having to go.

“He flip-flops on decisions and has been unable to translate the slogan that ‘PAS is for all’.

The icon of PAS now is Nik Aziz and not Hadi,” he said.

Nik Aziz is not just an icon of PAS.
He is an icon of human decency.

Dear Prof Dr. Aziz,

Do not worry about what this MCA/UMNO lapdog tabloid said. Even without you telling us what Hadi and his 2 sidekicks (Hassan Ali and Nasharuddin) had done, we the people, had seen their ball licking UMNO activities as clear as the blue sky!

What PAS needs is somebody with crediblity, like you, to tell about these traitors to the PAS CEO!

It needs somebody from the outside to tell something is utterly wrong happening within PAS. Unlike UMNO's CEO who received feedback from his ball lickers surrouding him, PAS is fortunate to have an independent observer to check any activites which are off tangent!

Prof Dr. Aziz,
We are all behind you. . ., and you are not alone!

Nik Aziz is the man!

He is not devious, simple, straight forward, decisive, patient, authoritative, and independent but fair leader.

This is the sort of leaders that will build a nation, not flip-flops boneless liars!

Why would the Star want to report on something so trivial such as a piece of news on an opposition party? Oh, wait a minute, the author just called the Prof a "small time academic", that's why. Implicitly, the message is that Nik Aziz listens to small time academics. But as against what? UMNO? I'd prefer small time academics anytime then!

What Dr. Aziz say is the truth nothing but the truth. It is difficult to find straight forward malays to air their views and not get condemn. You are really a true malay that points out the wrong that need to be corrected. God be with you.

Nik Aziz plus the progressive PAS leaders minus the islamic state ideology minus the gang of four (Hadi, Nasharuddin, Mustafa Ali, Hassan Ali) plus PKR minus Zulklfli Noordin Kulim and Wee Choo Keong plus DAP plus good governance = majority votes plus reformed Malaysia plus Bangsa Malaysia !!!

Go ahead, PAS, and do the right thing!

Don't get me wrong but we need PAS to be strong as part of the PR because they need moderation from others in order to attract non-Muslims. At this moment non-Malay will go for anything in order to get away from BN but if PR come to power at Federal level we expect performance and sound strategy. Thus, if PAS go around and scream religious restriction instead of sound judiciary, PDRM, accountability and civil services than they will probably be a fade
