ONE of Malaysia's former transport ministers and a top port executive may have both committed fraud, contributing to a series of missteps that plunged a government-backed industrial project into a billion-dollar debt, a parliamentary watchdog said on Wednesday.

The findings of a high-profile investigation by Parliament's Public Accounts Committee provides a major push for the government to act against key figures in one of the country's biggest financial scandals, which had increased concerns of corruption and a lack of transparency in state-linked projects.

The government approved a loan in 2007 to rescue the country's main port authority from debts exceeding US$1 billion (S$1.4 billion) after it incurred massive cost overruns to develop the Port Klang Free Zone, a 1,000-acre industrial and trading hub that opened in 2006.

The Public Accounts Committee, which oversees government expenditure, recommended on Wednesday that the police and the government's anti-corruption agency investigate ex-Transport Minister Chan Kong Choy and former Port Klang Authority General Manager O.C. Phang for possible criminal breach of trust involving the scandal.

The committee said Mr Chan and Mr Phang issued key letters to carry out the project without the Finance Ministry's approval. It also recommended investigations into other government officials involved in the project for allegedly failing to perform their responsibilities diligently.

Mr Chan, who retired after serving as transport minister between 2003 and 2008, and Mr Phang could not immediately be reached for comment. Mr Chan has previously denied any wrongdoing, while Mr Phang refused to publicly comment since being interviewed by the committee earlier this year. -- AP

You'd be dreaming if you expect those responsible will be brought to justice, especially when you are aligned to those who walk the corridors of power.

This is BolehLand where nothing is impossible.

All Malaysians are looking forward to the DG indicting, prosecuting and finally sentencing at least one minister current or ex to jail.

This has not happened before lah! Amazing. Malaysia Boleh.

One MCA president was sentenced by Singapore for corporate fraud and he was Tan Koon Swan. He got out after 18 months and is now a born again Christian preaching somewhere in Jalan Damansara Church.

Repentance is fine but make sure you live a life that does not infringe and hurt other people. Because of him, Dunlop Estates Berhad was without a MD then and later was sold to IOI....

Another character that was caught, pleaded guilty and fined was Tony Tiah...

"SHAH ALAM, Fri. - TA Enterprise Bhd executive chairman Datuk Tony Tiah was fined the maximum RM3 million by the Sessions Court today after he pleaded guilty to submitting a false report to the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange on transactions involving more than 35 million shares of Omega Holdings Bhd.

With the conviction, Tiah, 55, cannot hold any directorship in any company for the next five years as provided for in the Companies Act.
Tiah pleaded guilty to one of the three alternative charges preferred against him by the prosecution today.

He pleaded guilty ... NST"

Now he goes round preaching the Good News and saying telling people how he is rasing funds for TA Global....

You need to look at him, listen to him and be the judge....

Leopard is a leopard... cannot be a pigeon no matter how hard you try.

God will decide and put you in a cage or let you free to fly... ok?

Omega....I lost money lah on that one. Much money due to the Tony and Soh Chee...fella.

Lets see...
35 million times the difference in share price actual and jacked up at that time.

RM 12.00 - 4.00 = 8 ringgit x 35 million equals 280 million profit.

Fined 3 million... no feeling lah.

Go to jail for 15 years... then fair.

Better like in China... one bullet in the head and ask family to pay for it.

Churches today have a liking to get ex convicts, ex conmen, ex prostitute, ex gangsters, ex corporate fraudsters, and many other ex to testify and preach the word of god.

I never agree to this....

If you are an ex and repented go and work and pay back 77 x 77 x 77 times to the people you wronged instead of trying to teach them how to do good which in the first place they failed.

If you give the ex a chance to do, they will do it all over again. This time they are better experience and would not get caught. The ran faster, they talk faster, con more intelligently and so on...

Why ask a ex con fraudster like Tony Tiah and Tan Koon Swan to go into a church and preach leh?

Get them to pay all the ill gotten money ok lah.

When they preach, they talked about the type of food they can eat anytime, places they can go and even on private plane some more.

Heck that is not testimony lah... that is condecending lah.

Wise up Churches like SIBKL, Calvary, Grace, Harvest, etc...etc...You are telling me the church pastors are like sheeps and not shepherds?

Wake up!
