Authorities asked to release 15,000 seized Bibles PDF Print

(The Star) - The Christian Federation of Malaysia (CFM) has called for the immediate release of the 15,000 Bahasa Malaysia Bibles being withheld by the authorities.

It said the seizure contravened Article 11 of the Federal Constitution which gives all Malaysians the right to profess and practise his faith.

“This constitutional right is rendered illusory if Christians in Malaysia are denied access to Bibles in a language with which they are familiar,” said its chairman Bishop Ng Moon Hing and executive committee in a statement Wednesday.

They said withholding the Bibles deprived Christians in Sabah, Sarawak and in the peninsula, a large majority of whom use Bahasa Malaysia, “the right to use the Holy Scriptures in Bahasa Malaysia, to practise and profess their faith and to nourish themselves spiritually.”

They said it was baseless to withhold the Bibles on the ground that they were prejudicial to public order since they had been in existence before independence and had never caused public disorder.

“Since the 1970s and in consonance with the Government’s policies in education and the national language, Christians in Malaysia have received their education in Bahasa Malaysia.

“To deny the same Christians the right to read and study the Bible in Bahasa Malaysia is thus ridiculous and offensive. In fact, it is this action by the authorities themselves which is an affront to good public order.

“We call on the relevant government officials who have neither the authority nor the right to act in this unconscionable manner to explain their action to the church leaders and to the public,” they said, adding that churches stood to their commitment to Bahasa Malaysia as the national language.

They said the Government had in an agreement in 2005 stated Bahasa Malaysia Bibles could be distributed so long as the symbol of the cross and the words “A Christian publication” were printed on the front page.

They called on the Government to walk the talk of its 1Malaysia policy and not impose conditions on the freedom of citizens to worship, pray and read the Holy Scriptures in Bahasa Malaysia.

“How can the first pillar of the Rukunegara, that is, ‘Belief In God,’ be made a living reality if the Government imposes restrictions and conditions on the constitutional and fundamental right of citizens to freedom of religion?” they said.

I wonder what other religious publications or prayer items they are going to seize next. Could this be the work of some small fry trying to impress his boss? And all this in 1Malaysia?

Are they so weak minded that a Malay bible can alter their minds?? We live here since birth, hear the Muslim prayers everyday for 5times, yet we are not even flinching in our beliefs!!!
What could be so dangerous as to weaken their minds? or spirits? even translated books now are being subjugated to this idiocracy? what more i wonder?
For those who hv strong minds like i do, they can stop anything but they will never break our resolve

Isn't this whole fiasco full of irony?

On one hand the government says we must all support and use Bahasa Malaysia which is our national language. Every Malaysian must be able to speak, write and read Bahasa Malaysia.

But when it comes to the usage of the language for the Bible it is NOT allowed. Where the fcuk is the logic??!!!!

They detained the bibles but they allow the Indonesian girls and Chinese girls in to work as prostitutes all over town.

They detained the blogger under ISA but let the terrorists like Mas Selamat and Nordin Top free.

They catch the alleged small time criminals but let the actual murderer of Altantuya free. Where is Bala and Baginda?

They major on the minor. They filter microns of dirt from their water but let an elephant through....what? Let billions wasted but catch a policeman taking 10cts bribe!

They as in the Malay saying... Nila setitik rosak susu sebelanga!

HYPOCRITES... they are all HYPOCRITES.... Munafik... semua munafiq...

Well, the fact is Anwar Ibrahim has been silent on the Allah issue. These are not trifling issues and go to the heart of what democracy and freedom of worship is.

In the West, Anwar behaves like a Muslim universalist and intellectual but in Malaysia he is a bloody Taliban. He was silent over the Mazu Statue. ABIM the organisation he founded was up in arms over the statue saying it would 'desecrate' a Mosque 0.5 km away.

A statement from Anwar that the statue would pose no threat to Islam and is a reflection of Sabah's plural society would have gone a long way towards assuaging the suspicions which Sabahans have for Anwar. It would also demolish once and for all the legitimacy of 'Ketuanan Islam'.

But Anwar is a sickening fraud. He plays on Muslim paranoia, encourages it and then creates a role for himself as the 'bridge or facilitator' between Islam and the West.

The world has seen through Anwar's fraudulence, the Sabahans have rejected him, it is now up to the rest of Malaysians to realise who the real Anwar is.

Would the Koran then have to be labelled "A Muslim Publication"?

Hah! More people playing God!

I think these Muslims are really insecure. If your God is so great. There is no reasons to worry that your people would go against their religion. All these rules and laws to restrict the Muslim followers. All these bull**** about why other people's temple could not get too closed to your mosque. You have to make laws saying that people who married Muslims must convert, so that you can have more followers. Bomb up people because their faith is different. This is how desperate and insecure you are.

Your prayers are broadcasted on the TV few times a day on every channel. But people from other religion did not run off to join Islam.

Sorry to offend any Muslims out there. I'm merely stating the facts. There is no other way to put this.
