SARAWAK’S Dayaks seldom feature with any significance in the national imagination of Malaysia, and certainly do not make headlines in the national media. This reflects the political marginalisation of the Dayaks in their home state.

The Dayaks collectively make up nearly half the state’s population, and by the logic of communal politics, they should dominate politics in Sarawak. They did, briefly, during the early years of Merdeka, when their political vehicle was the Sarawak National Party, or SNAP. The president of the party then, Datuk Stephen Kalong Ningkan — an Iban — was the first chief minister of Sarawak, serving from July 1963 to September 1966. He was removed from office by a federally initiated Declaration of Emergency and a constitutional amendment resulting from a protracted constitutional crisis. Since 1970, the office of the chief minister has been held by two Melanau Muslims.

The dream of Dayak leaders since has been the restoration of what they consider their political glory: the installation of a Dayak chief minister. Formed in 1983 as a splinter group from SNAP, the Parti Bangsa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) was the vehicle for this mission. The PBDS applied and was accepted as a member of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition.

In the Ming Court affair of 1987, the PBDS left the BN and joined forces with Persatuan Rakyat Malaysia Sarawak (Permas) to form the opposition Maju alliance. They mounted a credible challenge to the BN in the subsequent state elections, but failed to dislodge Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud from office. Campaigning on the nationalist slogan of Dayakism, they won 15 seats, but eight of their elected representatives then defected to join SNAP and Taib’s Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB).

After another unsuccessful election in 1991, the PBDS finally ran out of gas and rejoined the BN in 1994.

Perhaps the UMNO finds them to be "TOO" bumi so they keep them in the political reservation like all the "OTHERS". They've got no name, no place and we ration every thing the need even their rightfully status as owners of OUR" land. Their poverty amongst them is beyond vulgar.

Face the fact, UMNO was never comfortable with Sarawak and Sabah independence from the start. It Malay hegemony ideology to find someway to dominate them or control them. Tunku was never comfortable with some of the things that was done but allowed them because the leaders of Sarawak and Sabah were too out of control.

But thank goodness time have not run out and the Dayaks have not forgotten who they are. Its a lesson to UMNO that Malay hegemony, like all fascist ideas, was, is and will always be a pipe-dream and never going to succeed.

Sarawak is the richest state in Malaysia. And we contribute to most of the resources for Malaysia. Come to Miri and Bintulu you get your black gold. Come to Sibu and Kapit and you get your timber... We need to eradicate or reduce the poverty level and education would be the key.

Voting for the oppositon would be the key... We have nothing to loose.

The 1Malaysia slogan is an "Eye-Wash ONLY". After reading many postings & RPK articles, I come to conclude that the whole Federal BN Government machinery is beyond redemption. The BN Government has to be replaced by the RAKYAT Power! Under the "Two Party Political System", the BN Federal Government will have to "surrender Federal Power" to the "NEW " Pakatan Rakyat Federal Government. It is part of the prophecy for BN to FALL & Collapse under its own numerous "Disobedience" negative plotting.I sincerely urged all Sarawakians and Sabahans to help fulfill this PROPHECY? Let us seek DIVINE intervention to fulfill this prophecy that was foretold 22 years ago! Let's Fast and "Pray in the SPIRIT" for Wisdom, Revelation, Peace and Tranbquility to prevail. Please do not complain when your PRAYERS are answered in many Miraculous WAYS! I know this is wishful thinking to say "The Post of PM will be appointed from among the Anak Bangsa Malaysia Sarawakians"! You must be SERIOUS & BELIEVED in what you PRAY for! "Failure to do what is Right" is Unforgivable in the Spiritual Realm! SABM.
