The DAP has reiterated its stand that the Perak state legislative assembly has to be dissolved and that fresh elections need to be called for a clear mandate from the people of Perak.

Following the fracas during the sitting yesterday, DAP secretary-general and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng condemned the Barisan Nasional-led (BN) state government.

"The DAP condemns BN’s shameless and dictatorial takeover of the Perak state assembly yesterday, which resulted in violent acts against the rightful Perak State Assembly Speaker V Sivakumar and the Pakatan Rakyat state assemblymen.

"BN's illegally appointed Speaker Datuk R Ganesan had banned the use of visual recording devices, mobile phones and laptops in the House.

"This is totally in contrast to what is practiced in Parliament where the parliamentarians can now access the Internet via the computers provided by the Dewan. We condemn these double standards as it was reported that Datuk Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib (Slim-BN) was seen using his laptop throughout the proceedings," Lim said in a statement.

He said PR politicians were subjected metal-detector screenings and a body searches.

"This is a clear infringement and a threat to the democratic rights of elected representatives of the people.

"Pantai Remis assemblyman Nga Kor Ming incurred the wrath of the police when he resisted the attempts to a body search," Lim added.

Lim said that during the search, a police officer alledgedly grabbed Nga's genitals while, Sivakumar was roughed up and had his robes of office torn off by the police.

To allow the police to control proceedings in the Perak state legislative assembly proves that there is no more democratically elected government in Perak, but that it is a police state, Lim added.

He said the Perak Budget 2010 speech was delivered by BN Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir in less than 20 minutes.

"Very few details were given about the sketchy budget and yet, it was tabled and passed with the support of the BN and independent state assemblymen.

"DAP reiterates its call of an immediate dissolution of the Perak State Assembly and hold fresh elections in Perak to allow the rakyat the right to choose their own government. Only by returning power to the people, then can justice, freedom, truth and democracy be restored in Perak," he said.

Useless pariah BN is not going to dissolve state assembly of Perak because by doing so is equivalent to committing suicide as nobody in Perak is going to vote for this useless party.najib knows about it and even the Sultan also knows about it and that's why Perak State assembly cannot be dissolved at such.

BN and the police are making PR ADUNS the guilty ones. We are matured enough to know who is right and who is wrong. Perak BN ADUNS - Don't play angels and try to be sincere. We will make sure BN is out of Perak in the next GE.

Yes, it's right for DAP to press on.
But I'm sure it'll fall on deaf ears.
If the UMNOputras are confident of victory at fresh pools it would have been called!
The point is that with all the intelligence sources at their disposal, the uMNOputras must be aware of the prevaling ill feelings towards them, their security wing, the palace and judiciary.
So, it will be better for all u PR ADUNs to bite the bullet, serve ur constituencies well.
3 1/2 years shall pass soon enough.
At the next general elections I'm sure a majority of the rakyat of Perak will sent these scumbags crawling out the exit!!

Barisan is the first out from the starting block that a fresh poll is the very LAST thing they need. And Barsian knows fully the only reason why that is so. Everyone know it too. Including the Perak Royalty for sure. Come what may, this time round, the Perak rakyat would have a longer memory to carry until the next GE. Then the countdown begins.

DAP can continue to call for fresh elections but nothing will come of its calls. The calls would gain DAP some political points from the Perakians. That's all that will happen.

There are only 2 people either of whose decision can bring about fresh elections in Perak - Najib and Azlan Shah. There is no reason why Najib would call for fresh elections knowing the anger of the Perkians and the impending disastrous outcome for UMNO/BN in spite of all the fowl play and dirty politics and all the postal votes. While Azlan Shah too would like to avoid any fresh elections, given that it is in his interest that UMNO continues to rule Perak, the sultan would find it very difficult to ignore an overwhelming demand from the Perakians for fresh elections.

Instead of making all these calls for fresh elections, DAP and its partners should initiate an independent survey by a respected audit firm/university dept/etc. to do a large scale survey to determine if the Perakians do want fresh elections. If the survey shows that the demand is not strong, Pakatan can stop its call for fresh elections and go about building its strength and strategies for GE 13. If the demand is strong, Pakatan can highlight this fact in whatever media that is available to them (local and international such as Al Jazeera) and the Internet and request the sultan to call for fresh elections as demanded by the majority of his subjects. The sultan can ignore Pakatan, a political coalition, but cannot afford to ignore the strong demands of his subjects - that would openly bring him into conflict with his subjects, something which could technically disqualify him as a sultan following tradition. Has DAP or Pakatan conducted such a survey to make a demand from the sultan which the sultan can't refuse?
