Rift in Islamic opposition party PDF Print

THE spiritual head of Malaysia's Islamic opposition group has demanded the ouster of key party leaders, intensifying a factional feud following attempts to form an alliance with the federal government.

The infighting in the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party comes amid a string of similar disputes in other political parties - both in the government and the opposition - that have undermined hopes of boosting political stability amid an economic downturn.

Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said the Islamic Party should convene a special congress for members to elect a fresh set of top officials and get rid of what he called 'problematic leaders.'

'I strongly feel there must be changes in the key players who hold seats in the party's core,' Mr Nik Abdul Aziz said in a statement late Thursday.

It was not immediately clear if Mr Nik Abdul Aziz can gain sufficient support in his call for a leadership revamp because the party only just held its last elections in June. But his statements are certain to fuel concerns that the party is headed for a split.

He singled out several party officials whom he said had tried earlier this year to hold high-level talks with Prime Minister Najib Razak's ruling coalition to build cooperation as the talks never materialised after other party members voiced dismay that the idea was an effort by the National Front to destabilise the three-party opposition alliance that made stunning gains in March 2008 general elections. -- AP

This unity govt. thing they have in Zimbabwe is now imported by some PAS leaders for selfish reasons. And Zimbabwe dictator have close ties with you know who. I totally agree with Nik Aziz to purge them from the party for the sake of Pakatan. Then, PAS will come out stronger for the next GE.

PAS was cheated by UMNO in the past and nearly vapourised... and now want to sleep with the Devil again?

Time to pluck out the power-crazed rubbish in PAS.

Tok Guru is a Man of Principle, that I respect most. Those wolves who would sell their souls to the Munafik Kafirs in the United Moronic Nazi Organization, should just shed their sheep's clothing and join the Iblis' pact, known as UMNO.

Better do it now, than too near the GE13. Get rid of theswe rotten apples first !! I fully support Tok Guru Nik Aziz in his Holy endeavour to clean the PAS stables !!

PAS may as well fold up if there is a real clean up. Look, the rascals are the most senior members of the party, including the Party President no less! This 'Islamic Party' is rotten to the core. No party which is helmed by a President with a majority following which wants to unite with UMNO can remotely claim to be promoting Islamic values.

The fact that Husam Musa lost the Deputy President post shows that the progressive elements are in a minority.

So the Malays who are mesmerised by Hadi's Arabism and backward interpretation of the Koran and treacherous behaviour need to make a clear choice. What kind of Islam do they want? Don't they now realise not only are the Ummah divided, but the religious leaders of PAS are at war with each other. Is this Islam?

If this is not further proof that secularism is the way forward, I do not know what is. Politicians who use religion for support are invariably morally bankrupt. The 'kesucian of Islam' can only be realised if politicians are not involved. Islam can speak for itself and does not need politicians to abuse it.

Again, the rural Malay folks will be the losers for blindly supporting these power crazy charlatans in UMNO or PAS. TGNA and the moderates must be alarmed and concerned enough to call for this spring cleaning before PAS implodes. I am sorry Tok Guru but religion and politics cannot mix, as one is for cleansing of the soul and the other is for cleansing the state/country's coffers, cleans

I yearn to chuck away those pro UMNO leaders. They were thorn in PAS slogan "PAS for All". Despite big influence in PAS I dont think TGNA will get his way.The EGM will divide further. They should held in in future but no tnow. Why because Najib is waiting for PAS top breakdown.Once it happen,he will call a snap election.BN had better chances to win if PAS divided.

Sometimes there are things that just needs to be done regardless of the consequences......and this is one of them!

Full credit to TGNA for calling a spade, a spade. A full cleansing is necessary in order that PAS could serve the people more appropriately and dynamically. Support for PAS will only cater for certain sections of the society if it continues to shoots itself in the foot by certain "leaders" trying to gain credit by trying to become more militant in their outlook.

These so called "leader's" behaviour could be attributed to active sabotage of PAS general appeal by creating problems illogically and unilaterally by certain of these high level members.

If TGNA do not mount a cleansing process against these elements within PAS, then, there would be a high probability that this faction will cause more critical dramas and havoc just before the GE13 in order to deliver victory to UMNO.

My observation is that they are just waiting for the approach of GE13 to pounce and unleash their demons against the supporters of PR to enable UMNO to retain power. This would be the ultimate act of betrayal.....but, who cares, they would still be rewarded for playing their part!

TGNA have forseen this possibility and he needs his supporters to empowers him in this cleansing process. In TGNA we trust!

I believe this much .... if Tok Guru's team is able to lead PAS, then PAS will continue to have the support of the rakyat in general, as a key Pakatan component party.

But if Hadi continues to hold on, then PAS will see support bleeding away. Then, there's really not much difference between direct support for UMNO and support of Hadi's PAS, which would effectively be an indirect support of UMNO anyway.

I do hope PAS members will continue to see & support the wisdom of Tok Guru's ways.
