By Joseph Tawie, Malaysian Mirror

A prominent native customary rights (NCR) land lawyer, Baru Bian, has been named to head the Sarawak PKR, it is reliably learnt.

The official announcement from PKR on the appointment will be made on Sunday after a supreme council meeting of the party. Baru is also a council member.

Baru’s appointment is expected to close the chapter on the disillusionment expressed by certain quarters within Sarawak PKR that the party in the state was controlled by ‘outsiders’.

The party also hopes to prop up its image in Sarawak with the appointment of a local guy to take charge.

Baru will replace Mustaffa Kamil Ayub who was appointed as interim chief of the State PKR in May this year.

'Show East Malaysians more respect'

“With Baru’s appointment, we hope more professionals and the hardcore members of the deregistered Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) who have remained partyless will join the party,” a PKR leader who requested anonymity told Malaysian Mirror here this morning.

“It was a wrong move in the first place to put a West Malaysian in charge of Sarawak PKR. It’s as if there is no one capable in Sarawak to lead the party in the state. Those in Kuala Lumpur must learn to give us face.

“Anwar Ibrahim and his people in KL must show us more respect, otherwise they are like Umno leaders treating Sarawak and Sabah like ‘stepchildren’. We have enough of such treatment,” he added.

It is all about who gets the top position in PKR. This got nothing to do with rakyat welfare. If this approach continues, the cancer will destroy PR as a whole.

PKR has added another jewel to its crown. It should keep recruiting intelligent, principled and dedicated leaders who would put party and the electorate before self.

Doing what is right and wise is important if PR is to grow in strength.

Let the East Malaysians determine their own destiny, it's the right
honourable and common sense thing to do. Don't screw things up, for
pities sake.

Yeah, let the East Malaysian determine their own destiny, but what I have issue with is that the East Malaysians also determines the destiny of the rest of us in the West. It sickens me to think that even if >60% of West Malaysian, including >80% of KL folks, vote for PR, Kuala Lumpur will still be ruled by BN if the East Malaysians decide to stick with BN.

I suppose what I've written above if slightly off-topic, but I just want to get that off my chest.

Anuar is an interesting animal. Different strokes for different folks. Rest assured the non-Malays of Peninsula and the non-Muslim Bumi of Sabah/Sarawak are watching. Prorate is right, DAP better watch out. The $69 question, how is history going to write about this man Anuar, a great statesman ... someone in Tunku Abdul Rahman's league or just scum material no different from Mahataik? History is a good teacher, we just hope Anuar is a good student for Malaysia's sake.
