This may be true in 1988 when Howard proposed this policy. But it is not the case now. People's philosophy and attitude do change with time. Every intended immigrant is treated equally and follows the same criteria - whether he is an Indian, white English or Chinese. So this writer is indeed backward and ill-informed.

The Malaysians can learn from the Asian population in Australia. The election boundary was re-drawn and John Howard was in a constituency with large Asian population (almost 20 years after he made his racist remark). They did not let the chance go by and not only did they help to topple the Coalition government, they even kicked out John Howard from the Parliament and replaced him with a newcomer (TV personality). This is the power of your vote.

Agree with Dragon888. Yes it was a policy then. The Aust Government of today and of recent years have
a) acknowledged the existence of that said policy, and are not proud of it.
b) have realised the contributions and skills migrants can bring and that is evidenced by the increased spots for migration, of any background as long as you have skills that can contribute to Australia.

Point (b), I myself being a benefactor of it.

Herein lies the difference, Australia sees migration of people of different skills,talents, contributing to Australia and in return giving them a sense of belonging to their new country (with open arms).

UMNO's bigots would rather you go back to wherever it is you came from ( even though I came from M'sia) so that the population remains dumb and dull, so that UMNO can be the champion of the dumbos- perpetuating the vicous cycle.

Some ppl in the BN government realise this problem- the brain drain, and they try to entice o'seas M'sians ard the world to return to M'sia....but why would I if my kids will be treated as second class in M'sia,though born and bred here,considering on the other hand my kids will be a naturalised Australian if they are born here.

Also point in case, the One Australia / White Australia policy of the past, will today, not be accepted by the general population and constituents of Australia.

The important thing is,a policy, a mistake, but if we acknowledge that and be prepared to change and move forward, everyone benefits.

Is the current government ready to move forward, or would it better suit their agenda if they keep harping on the NEP and 1969 like a broken record.

The only thing keeping australia afloat is the massive influx of asian money into the country, whether in the form of commodities or investment or migration.
Ausralia cannot stop asian immigration as their economy gains hugely from this. Assuming each asian brings in RM1 million per family, this translate into massive savings in terms of training for every proffesional that moves there.
Fummy thing is that most of the asian immigrants are either the chinese types or the indian subcontinent types. The malay types are not interested in migrating.

It is very funny how two race that dominates all the islands in the asia pacific regions, the malays and the polynesians, failed to colonise australia, an island the size of a continent.
The polynesian found tiny dots in the pacific, like new zealand, tahiti, hawaii and even easter islands near the americas, while timor is only 100km from northern australia.
Was it the dessert like conditions, or maybe the aborogines who were aggressive towards them, or the great barrier reef, or maybe the great white sharks that prevented this.
I was informed that timorese/bugis and aborogines were trading for hundreds of years in the northern territories by Indonesians, but cannot afirm this.

Najib copied his catchy phrase of 1Malaysia from 1Australia as propagated by the renowned racist John Howard. Remember Howard was the first prime minister to be defeated defending his seat. Najib has no brains and has to copy this racist Howard to gain mileage as a prime minister.similarly, Najib will face the same fate as his nemesis.
