(Bernama) -- MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said Friday he had already discussed his retirement plan with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak last June and would stick to it.

"I had a frank discussion with the Prime Minister when I met him in Sarawak where I told him of my (retirement) plan.

"I will keep to my word to the Prime Minister and I will not change (my plan)," he said when contacted here.

He said Najib was aware of his retirement plan but he declined to reveal it, saying that it was between him and the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman.

On former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's statement that he was a liability to the BN, Samy Vellu said Dr Mahathir was entitled to his opinion.

"I'm not hurt by his comments and my respect for him will never diminish," he said.

However, he said, he was sad that Tun Dr Mahathir labelled him a liability only now "but when the BN was winning (in general elections), I was considered an asset".

"I'm not at all surprised at his comments but I think he refuses to understand that the BN lost (many seats) in the last general election not due to me.

"An experiencde man (politician) like him should understand that," he said.

Samy Vellu described Tun Dr Mahathir's comments as akin to "telling a young wife that she is beautiful and an asset, but when she becomes old, she is branded a liability".

Tun Dr Mahathir, in an interview with Bernama on Thursday, said Samy Vellu would become a liability to the BN in the next general election because of his failed leadership and he should resign to take responsibility for the MIC's failure in the last general election.

Are we seeing MIC attacking UMNO to stay relevant as a race-based party? Not easy to retire as a POOR politician ?

Aisay Uncle Samy.

You English is bad and your Bahasa, incomprehensible. Lest you get wires crossed, next time you talk to the Tun, both of you are better off speaking in Malayalee.

Interesting to note the gist of the mudslinging. Tun labels the old goat a liability and his own problems in MIC made him a casualty but still holding firm to his perch in his little own domain.

Funny how Tun didn't have much to say when the old goat says BN's poor showing wasn't down to MIC(more likely caused the Altantuya factor). And while PI Bala, wife and child remains missing, Najib should have no business assuming the PM's office(by deceit hijacking the hotseat) that was rightfully Dollah Lembik's.

Last word in Uncle Samy, you will be better off staying away and doing nothing for up coming Bagan Pinang contest. The sight of Kugan's funeral pose is enough to sway Indian sentiments and all this before Kg.Buah Pala is brought up or the issue of UMNO thugs on their walkabout terrorising M'sian's with a cow's head.

You are almost at the end of your political life and UMNO will only use you as a worn out mat. Better you have some fun, break bread with Khairy, have a cuppa cha and sabo UMNO and that midget of a thief Mohd Isa.

Regards, Selamat berbuka to all observing the fast.

What's so grand about your retirement. If you go today, at least some people will sympathise with you, if you go in 6 month's time, there will be no one to see you off. Do you know what they do to old cows, bulls, goats etc?? They shoot them and feed it to the tigers in the zoo. As you were the works minister, what do they do with old bulldozers, old lorries, trucks, old buildings? They scrape it and sell it to the Indian scrap collectors of which jibby promised you the license during the PP by election.

You have outlived your usefulness to the MIC and ameno.
