San Miguel Corp told the Philippines stock exchange last week about Mirzan’s appointment which is to represent the interests of Q-Tech Alliance Holdings Inc on the board.

Q-Tech, a Manila-based investment company in which Mirzan has a stake in, recently acquired a 19.9 per cent share in San Miguel Corp for 39.61 billion pesos (RM2.9 billion).

It bought the stake from Japan’s Kirin Holdings, which used the funds to help finance the acquisition of a 43 per cent stake in San Miguel Brewery Inc.

With this latest corporate exercise, San Miguel Corp still maintains a 51 per cent stake in San Miguel Brewery Inc.

San Miguel Brewery controls 95 per cent of the Philippine beer market. The company has made San Miguel Beer for more than a century. The beer is brewed in the Philippines, China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia, and is sold in 60 markets worldwide, according to the company’s Web site.

Muslim owning shares in a Beer Company is not haram I suppose, holding, selling and drinking it is haram for muslim. I wonder if the Syriah Court would dare to whip Mirzan Mahathir if its considered haram to own shares in alcohol company.

Seems like the above are not the whole story. The Arabs and Mirzan are investing in Q-Tech Alliance Holdings, Inc., this company in turn buy a stake in san miguel. Cheers! wake up Malaysian Muslims, business should not mixed with religion. That poor girl gonna be caned cause of a beer while the rest can invest in it.

Tokyo, February 20, 2009—Kirin Holdings Company, Limited (Tokyo, Japan; President and CEO, Kazuyasu Kato; hereafter, "Kirin") and Q-Tech Alliance Holdings, Inc. (Manila, Philippines; President, Eric Recto; hereafter, Q-Tech) have entered into a Share Sale Agreement under which Kirin will transfer its entire shares in San Miguel Corporation (Manila, Philippines; Chairman and CEO, Eduardo M. Cojuangco, Jr.; hereafter "SMC") to Q-Tech.

Kirin will sell all of the 628,666,675 shares it currently holds in SMC (19.91% of the issued and outstanding shares*1) to Q-Tech through a private transaction at a price of Php63 per share (approx. ¥120*2). Total purchase price will be approximately Php39.61 billion (approx. ¥75.3 billion*2). Kirin and Q-Tech will target on closing the transaction at the end of May, 2009.

Kirin plans to purchase from SMC 6,665,023,690 shares, or 43.249% of the issued and outstanding shares*1, in San Miguel Brewery, Inc. (Manila, Philippines; Chairman Ramon S. Ang; hereafter, "SMB"), the domestic beer business subsidiary of SMC, through a private transaction. The consideration from the sale of Kirin's shares in SMC will be used to finance part of the purchase price for acquiring SMB shares.

*1 Based on the number of shares as of December 31, 2008.
*2 Php1.00 = ¥1.9 (as of February 18, 2009)
Kirin Group's long-term business vision, as outlined in "Kirin Group Vision 2015 (KV2015)", is to be a leading company in Asia and Oceania, and Kirin has been promoting a strategy in these regions of focusing on profitable operation. SMB's beer market share in the Philippines is approximately 95%, and its parent SMC has long been in the business in Asia including China, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand. Through the sale of SMC shares and the purchase of SMB shares, Kirin will be able to focus its investment in the alcohol business in Asia and Oceania.

Kirin Group will constantly seek to nurture close bonds with its customers and offer the happiness of food and health, based on its marketing slogan oishisa wo egaoni—taste that makes you smile.

Petron directors, Qtel subsidiary incorporate holding company
THE SECURITIES and Exchange Commission (SEC) has approved the incorporation of a holding company, a stockholder of which is a unit of the firm with which San Miguel Corp. is partnering as it ventures into the telecommunication business.

Senior executives of Qatar Telecom QSC met with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in the Arab state in December to review potential areas of cooperation in broadband Internet technology in the Philippines. The new company, called Q-Tech Alliance Holdings, Inc., has a capital stock of P1 billion, a quarter of which had been subscribed to but only P62.5 million paid for, documents showed.

Q-Tech’s investors included Bahraini firm QTel Al Sadd Holding SPC, which bought P25 million worth of shares.

Beers and the haram issue aside, note how ill-gotten gains are channeled to foreign countries for investment. I bet all UMNO goons' wealth is stashed away overseas before they flee this country, come the next GE. I stand corrected -- Toyol's in Indonesia and a US bank near disneyland, TDM's billions in Zimbabwe (a bit now in the Phillipines), Mohammad son of Mohammad's in Australia, I heard Moohidin's also in Indon, Najis' is all over the world except Mongolia, Rozak Baginda's in UK, KJ's and FIL's also in Australia, Syed alBlur in Yemen, etc etc.......damn!

Few possibilities i can think of ..
>By citizenship, Mirzan is not a Malaysian.?
>Mirzan is not a muslim?
>Syariah law can only apply to Malaysian muslims while in Malaysia territory.
>There's a clause in Malaysia Syariah Law stating that Malaysian muslim are not allowed to consume alcohol EXCEPT SAN MIGUEL brand.
>Syariah law allow Muslim to have interest in "Haram " business .
>Syariah law can not apply on selective Malaysian muslim .

The Govt investment companies like Tabung Haji, Khazanah, etc don't invest into companies like Genting, Sport Total, GAB as they are considered haram. So if Mirzan is doing it, isn't it considered haram and be punished? Who dare to punish him? UMNooo has no balls to do it. UMNooo will only punish the weak and helpless. No the rich and famous!!!

Hooray! One more beer brand for mass distribution in Malaysia.
San Miguel makes beer, but also many other things.
They virtualy dominate the local food market, like Indofood in indonesia and nestle in Malaysia.
Mirzan was married to Indonesia's richest businessman's daughter. They divorced way back in 1997/98 when his biz empire collapsed.
If found guilty by syariah for buying san miguel shares, may I reccomend the japanese water beer torture, drink beer until stomach about to burst, then ask someone heavy to step on stomach until the beer flows out from all exit points, including the ears and nose. But since he will be heavily intoxicated, it can be seen as a humane form of torture.

Be flexible a bit-lah,its all in the mind.If you associate beer as evil, then it is "haram",however,if you associate beer as fun, joy, achievement and accomplishment, then it is not "haram".

Your mind is doing the trick,if your mind is dirty and bad, everything you do is "haram",if your mind is righteous and pure, everything you do,hold or drink is "halal".

Folks, take it easy. This is the a modern Malay. And the one where the Indian blood is dominant. Remember Shah Rukh Khan is a muslim who is married to a Hindu and neither party converted. It is perfectly legal and acceptable in India. So is drinking, praying in keramats and other things which are forbidden in Malaysia. Notice I said Malaysia and not Islam. If Shah Rukh Khan is Malaysian and did what what he has done in India, we can just imagine what will befall him and his family. But because he is an Indian, in Malaysia they even honour him with a Datukship. So we can see another case of double standards! And Ali from Melaka went to SRK's house in India and enjoyed the finest Indian cuisine. I wonder if he checked if the food was halal as I am told that SRK's cook is a Hindu!

Well an alleged Muslim can own beer making company? Distribute and sell beer to retailers is also OK? But for Muslims to serve beer in bar and drink beers there is not OK??

It is OK to grow poppy?? Manufacture and sell opium, heroin and morphine to distributors is also OK?? But not OK to push and take the drug??
