By Muaz Omar (The Malaysian Insider)

SEPT 8 – Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim was given a rude awakening when the meeting that was meant to discuss the relocation of a 150-year old temple turned to chaos and almost a ruckus.

Khalid called for a residents’ meeting following the highly charged protest on the relocation of the temple made infamous by the stamping of a severed cow’s head in front of the Selangor state secretariat building.

The Selangor MB felt that he had to take matters into his own hand after experiencing first hand how the issue deteriorated turning into a very sensitive one with negative political consequences.

While it is too obvious that Umno has played an active role in riling up the local Malay residents of Section 23, Shah Alam; it also reflects the weakness of the Pakatan Rakyat local machinery so much so that it was unable to counter the propaganda that Umno has been feeding into the minds of the local Malays.

Pakatan Rakyat state representatives were unable to ride on their position, influence and most importantly their newly found authority and power to dispel or stem the flowing tide of divisive elements from Umno.

They had also underestimated the nature of the resistance against the state government reflected by the emotional and surreal cow-head protest.

Everyone except the local Pakatan Rakyat machinery and some state government officials expected Umno, through its agents, to subvert the meeting. Hence, it was very naïve of the organisers to expect the meeting to be held in a cosy and warm atmosphere.

The rest, as they say, is history and Khalid, of all people, should not have received the level of abuse that was directed at him.

Pakatan Rakyat doesn't need to be a control freak to hold OPEN meetings with the local residents. No need for smoke screen, mirrors or paid pro-PR agents to sway the crowd. An open and transparent meeting will gain a lot more mileage among the Rakyat.
With the fiasco meeting being youtubed and blogged, it only adds MORE negative propaganda towards Umno.
Yes, it was very naïve of the organisers to expect the meeting to be held in a cosy and warm atmosphere but there is a new awakening, the Rakyat is not that NAIVE anymore!

As a Muslim, the fiasco is indeed shameful display of Malay mentality especially in the month of Ramadhan.

The Selangor meeting fiasco with MB Khalid...........let this be an eye opener for the PR government. No doubt the state wants to resolve this issue as early as possible., Because of the stubborn nature and recalcitrant attitude of the people concerned , the kind hearted PR state government was trampled upon as a result.
The PR leadership must not let these despicable protestors have their way. Otherwise , there will be no law and order, They will come climbing over your heads whenever you want to enforce and decisions affecting the rakyat.
Stick to what is right and legal. Continue with your job of running the state in a fair and justifiable manner. After all we know that these demonstrators are acting under the instructions of their head !!! Their head already set the mission of creating problems for all PR rules states, starting with the robbery of Perak!!!

I am still glad to see that MB Khalid handled himself professionally despite all the brick-bats thrown at him during the meeting! He truly deserve to be an MB and perhaps our future PM in making! Cheerio to MB Khalid!

You cannot do anything to change the minds of the moo-boys. They are UMNO loyalists - the type that will vote for a very tainted candidate in Permatang Pasir. When the moo-boys went on a stampeding rampage, they did not know that Bagan Pinang was coming. UMMOO must and will made to regret releasing the mad bulls! Look towards Bagan Pinang and apprecaite the favour the cow has done for us!

I disagree with the writer. I think the MB and Shah Alam MP handled themselves well and gentlemanly even though provoked by the UMNO goons. Watching the video, I get the feeling that a majority of the people present were not in agreement with the UMNO samsengs but the took the cue from the MB and behaved rather well. The only thing that the UMNO Malays succeeded in doing was to make themselves look silly and in turn reveal their leaders (Najib, Din and Toyo) as being desperate and stupid.

"... it also reflects the weakness of the Pakatan Rakyat local machinery so much so that it was unable to counter the propaganda that Umno has been feeding into the minds of the local Malays..."

You think so? I disagree. I think it played nicely into the hands of PR whether by design or accidentally. This ugly episode revealed the ugliest side of UMNO and it revealed their naked attempt to undermine the PR Govt to regain Selangor at any cost, including endangering the peace and harmony of the country. If this is not the height of a totally irresponsible Govt., I do not know what is.

It is so distasteful that even Muslim Malays are turned off by this shameful display of racism hiding under the cloak of religion in the holiest month of Ramadan. And it has further reinforced the negative views and suspicion of the non Malays with regards to Najib's 1Malaysia concept, reducing it to another hypocritical lie to try to trick the non Malays. And this episode, in one fell swoop, wiped out what little goodwill Najib's Batu Caves visit had generated. It was an eye opener for the Indians.

I do agree the cow head protest brought more harm to BN and UMNO's image than Pakatan's. It's clear as daylight who's behind the protest and what their agenda is.

First of all I must take my hat off for MB Khalid. He kept his cool and composure and professionalism. I believe never in history has a BN MB or PM gone down to the people in this manner with criticism hurled and if this was to happen to a BN MB rest assured those hooligans will be in police custody. BN will not tolerate this nonsense and I guess BN will never have the guts to face the people head on.

Muaz Omar,

Maybe the Pakatan rakyat trap those UMNO hooligans into the town hall, so that the whole word can see their antics and animal behavior. DOn't tell me, PR goverment is so stupid that they don't know how UMNO animals behave. It is a trap for UMNO people.

PR remain calm and steady, whereas, UMNO animals behave worst than animals and stupider than pig. It is actually a trap to showcase to the whole world how hooligans UMNOs are.

And while Khir Toyol is still smirking away, when PR goes into power, I think he will be the first one to ride the boat back to Indonesia. Maybe halfway through the straits of Malacca, the Indonesians kill him and throw him into sea.

Without a doubt MB Khalid Ibrahim prove himself to be a gentleman, clam and well compose even when surrounded by a bunch of barbarian.

Nevertheless stern action must be taken by MB against the death threat thrown at him. Capture on camera was culprit who pulls the chair from beneath another participant of the meeting causing the victim to crumble onto the floor, the victim or MB must take action against such barbaric aggression and charg the aggressor with “Intentional cause of bodily harm”.

Pakatan Rakyat must not allow them self to be bullied by a bunch of punks. All this was caught on camera, inaction will be interperated as a sure sign of weakness.

The townhall meeting showed Malaysia the contrasting difference between the kind of hooliganism UMNO promotes and the kind of calmly tolerance PR offers.

Should PR now do an Umno by using brute force and corruption and bribery to keep out the opposition and bring in the supporters? I'll take the meek (and I don't mean weak) but dignified conduct of MB Khalid over the thuggery and bullying of Umno anytime. I think the town hall meeting showed us the true characters of the the 2 sides we're dealing with.

I wrote a short, but peaceful message, that we should sabar as such breed of racists is dying, not growing. For some unknown reason, it got deleted from MT.

I'm saying it again here.

PR, continue with your sincere and peaceful style of communicating with the rakyat. But at the same time, ALWAY remember to film and show us footage of the arrogance, confrontational, irresponsible, insensitive, and the "I am the master and I can say and do what pleases me" attitude among UMNO/BN goons.

The days of violent non-sensical UMNO/BN antics and racial incitement are over.

Those were not Malays who kept screaming like hysterical wild dogs and pushed and shoved their way around at the meeting. And the nasty bugger who pulled away the chair causing that Indian gentleman to fall down should have been dragged off and arrested as should all those who refused to shut up! But, ofcourse, the police did nothing. But they drag away peaceful candle-bearing vigil marchers who were quiet and orderly.

Even the tudung clad women who screamed like hysterical banshees at that meeting were not Malays. Malays have always been admired for their good manners and good breeding. Their adat has always been the yardstick by which we measure good breeding and, infact, it is their adat that has become a way of life for all Malaysians be they Chinese, Indian or others.

So those were not Malays but some god-ugly barbarians! And they were not Muslims either because everyone knows that a real Muslim will not behave like a foul-mouthed demented devil even more especially in the holy month of Ramadan when all true Muslims will be focussed on upholding the principles of the religion!! Infact, they should be punished for insulting Islam!

However what seemed very, very apparent is that the ugly, foul behaviour of those few savage barbarians was the work of UMNO. It is just another episode in a thick volume of dirty, un-Islamic vulgarities that these devils have drummed up. And they seriously think they are going to win over the rakyat this way??

The PR party should continue to bring the truth to the people by showing all the videos that define UMNO's dirty work. The more they try to bring you down, the stronger is our support for you.

Just keep taking all the videos you can which reveal the dirty work of the failing and fragmenting BN government. The people need to see what is really going on because we all know that the print media and the radio and television stations are bound and gagged and cannot reveal the truth but only lies!

But a word of caution to PR; don't take this crap lying down; if you have to fight them their way, then so be it! All is fair in love and war!!
