PUTRAJAYA, Feb 11 (Bernama) -- Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said opposition parties have resorted to playing up racial issues as they have no real issues to raise for the upcoming general election.

"This time they have run out of issues and are resorting to racial ones or by making promises they cannot keep. I think they are at their weakest point," he told reporters after receiving a courtesy call from the new Unicef representative to Malaysia, Youssouf Mohammed Oomar, at his office here Monday.

He was confident that the Barisan Nasional (BN) would secure a two third majority in the election because of the close cooperation among the component parties of the BN at the grassroot level apart from there being no major problems.

Syed Hamid, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kota Tinggi, said it was also normal to discuss about candidates to be fielded by the BN in the election.

He, however, left the decision to the party leadership, adding that in future it would be best to let the candidates know early to avoid speculation.

"To me, new faces must be included but this does not mean a total clearout of long-serving MPs," he added.

Is he ever going to pull his ostrich head from the dirt.
Same disgraceful attitude as seen during BBC's Hardtalk!!
Well known mediocre performance as FM. Achieved nothing for years.

It's not the that oppositions have ran outta issues, it's that the coalition party has ran outta ideas and now starting to use these issues as an issue.

You don't know issues even if it kicks you in the butt!!!

I propose a total CLEANOUT of long service MPs. The present team not only failed to prevent corruption but has infact contributed to the detriment and deterioration of it.

I just hope that the opposition take this as a challenge and make sure he eats out his words.

I think BN is the one with no issues so making opposition as an issue!
Opposition knows what they are talking about, and racial issue you mentioned?
Who is the contributing factor to this issue?? The opposition? no Be End!
So don't say opposition has no issues, you have given them more than enough to proceed!
In fact you are adding on to it on a daily basis.
Anyone heard of the signage changes in KL? to include Jawi based names with each one costed at RM1000-2000??
What is the motive? to promote Islam Hadhari? such a waste of rakyat's money!
Yet another issue added on to the collection!
Keep it coming Be End before The End!

In fact so many of issue came out of the devils and demons themselves... from day one at the time of independence till now... ranging from racial issues to religion issues..to manipulation of judiciary issues, education issues, corruption issues (very common among UMNOs), Election Commission, Arm Contracts, Sleeping PM...and other scores of issues from time to time.... we never forget... remember its you fellas started all of this nonsense in first place and not the opposition...

BN also bankrupt of ideas other than launching corridors that is destined to fail like MSC (M Stupid Corridor) launched by TDM. Such projects are only aimed at enriching a small group of BNputras and their cronies.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar is clearly in fairy tale land where everyone in Malaysia loves and supports BN even when they're being screwed on all fronts:
1) rising cost of living
2) corruption affecting national competitiveness and ability for the government to protect the people
3) public safety, stemming from police inefficiency and corruption
4) judicial corruption, resulting in loss of foreign investment
5) regression of standards of education resulting in loss of international students to Spore, creation of another generation of unemployable graduates, causing strain on national coffers and taxpayers' money
6) official corruption causing loss of billions that could have been better used to develop soft capital for the country and reverse brain drain
7) piratisation of roads and hospital facilities - increased cost of healthcare and insurance where not everyone is well protected
smilies/cool.gif inattentive Prime Minister causing lack of confidence by foreigners in the direction Malaysia is going
9) lost to Taiwan, Korea, Singapore despite having rich resources - clearly a national shame
10) fractures in the society as a result of civil courts ceding power to Syariah court, led by judges who decide by their race and not by judicial principles, judges lacking moral courage to uphold the secular Constitution
11) perpetuation of NEP that serves only to enrich UMNO and their cronies in MCA, Gerakan and MIC

So dear Foreign Minister, perhaps you're so foreign to Malaysia that you are no longer in touch with the issues at hand - these are critical issues, and they are not running out anytime soon

I'll be damned if majority Malaysians buy this crap.
