The violation of respect and compassion in Shah Alam PDF Print

It is rather appalling and sad that the followers of Islam, that genuinely preaches peace, compassion, justice and respect for all human beings had resorted to violent and disrespectful behaviour in registering their protest against the relocation of a Hindu temple by the Selangor government soon after their Friday prayer yesterday.

Such an unruly behaviour is truly unwarranted and uncalled for especially at a time when our nation is already riddled with heightened political and ethnic sentiments and thoughtless actions deliberately perpetrated by certain quarters intent in driving a wedge between Malaysians of different faiths and ethnicity.

The street demonstration in Shah Alam - although could be recognised as legitimate in a democracy - should have been sensitive to the feelings of the affected community, i.e. the Hindus, because religion, as we know it, can be very emotive and combustible if exploited for whatever reasons.

Indeed, it is totally insensitive and downright disrespectful for the protesters to parade the head of a sacrificed cow knowing full well that the animal is sacred to the Hindu community. In short, this stupid act was sacrilegious to the Hindus.

It is also disheartening to realise that such an outrageous act could occur in the holy month of Ramadan when Muslims are especially encouraged, among other things, to exercise restraint, have patience and practise compassion towards others. Of course, it doesn't mean that it would be morally right if this outrage were committed in other months of the Muslim calendar. Muslims are expected to uphold these values and practice these virtues all their lives.

At a time when the nation is about to celebrate its 52nd anniversary of independence, this incident is certainly a grim reminder that our inter-ethnic and inter-religious harmony and unity is sadly at its lowest, and crass bigotry is unfortunately on the rise.

Malaysians of all ethnic and religious backgrounds certainly have no reasons to be overjoyed with the Merdeka celebration especially when the authorities were warned by these unthinking rebel-rousers of violent, if not bloody, 'retribution' if the demands of the protesters were not heeded and met.

It is of paramount importance to remind ourselves that better ethnic and religious understanding and relations can only come about through mutual respect and tolerance and dialogue – never by losing our heads.

These morons in the procession were carrying their brains on the street - represented by a cow's head.
Hindus have to just shut up - any retaliation and FRU, water cannons, ISA, Kugan style interrogation, keris, Khairy led demos will be there as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow.
This is Malaysia now and the right thinking Malays need to take control of things instead of letting bigots run riot.
No Merdeka for me as it is meaningless

Even in countries like Sri Lanka, their independence celebrations are led by all main faith leaders - Buddhist, Christian,Hindu and Muslim. Yet the Buddhist are about 60 percent and dont bulldoze their belief down other's throat.(I am no Buddhist)

Our greatest days as a nation are over - for at least the next 2 generations. Thanks to Mahathir

The street demonstration in Shah Alam - although could be recognised as legitimate in a democracy
======================================================= ===========================
If your definition of democracy allows this blatant and despicable act of racism then I say to hell with democracy.

To say that this can be recognized as legitimate because democracy alows it then along those lines any race can openly show how they feel towards another religion - eg, throwing a pig's head at the entrance of Putra Jaya to show how the Rakyat feels about UMNO/BN. Heck, that is democracy too ....more legitimate than the cow's head in that road ....this is Democracy ....according to you.

Democracy today, in this country is tolerance of all race and religion but not against racists who openly exercise their 'democratic' rights.

Everything has a limit - even democracy. What you said is plain bull. Do the other democratic countries resort to such vile and comtemptuous acts to vent their feelings towards another race/religion?

It is absolutely illogical that other than mosques & suraus, places of worship of other faiths must not be built in muslim majority areas. The "noises" from these "other places of worship" disrupts the religious activities of the muslim....so they say.

By that logic, how is it that there are huge mosques with generous car park spaces over acres of prime land in non-muslim populated areas? I know of at least a place where it is 100% non-muslim surroundings that have such a mosque. Now then, how is it that the calls for prayers five times a day including one in the very early hours in the morning does not effect the "daily activities" of the non-muslims?

Are these holligans above the Sedition Act?

This is the problem that will always arise if the BN Govt. continues to promote ketuanan melayu or ketuanan islam.

Nothing short of arrest, charged, convited and sent to Sungai Buloh shall appease the Hindu residents of Section 23 in Shah Alam. They have been greatly insulted by the "cow-head show" and the presence of the ball-less police.

I would judge a religion by the utterances, behaviour, morals, principles, actions of its followers. After all, there are these religious men who keep their followers in check by swiftly giving punishment for "sins" such as the now suspended sentence of 6 lashes on kartika. However, we hv yet to see swift action against these 50 men who frightened us when they threatened "bloodshed and racial tension"... if the temple proceeded.

Yesterday I saw half a dozen elderly white tourists photographing the beautiful minarets of the mosque in KL near to the railway station. It's all in the mind. This mosque & its surrounding buildings looked beautiful to me. I also looked at Hindu temples with fascination. They don't frighten me. But it is the extreme behaviour of its followers which scare the shit out of me.

When anyone condemns or criticises Islam, it may be deemed as blasphemy. What abt Muslims who give Islam in Malaysia a bad name worldwide? Isn't that some sort of blasphemy too?

During Ramadhan, the hungry ghosts are playing the fool. And UMNO fools are following Satan's lead. Didn't UMNO detain some people during the last fasting month?

Sure or not, Ramadhan is to instill humility in their followers? Not obvious leh. Muslims even get upset and angry that other people are eating in front of them while they are fasting. If so then DON'T FAST.

There is this "paradox" and nothing good ever comes out of this paradox, except excuses. It has been around and survives by violence. You take away its "force" factor, its herd will grow some real thinking brains which will give it a new lease of life . Until then it will always remain fearful of its self
