Sandakan: Chief Minister Datuk Musa Haji Aman stressed that all Barisan Nasional component parties will use the dacing (scales) to reflect the common political struggle of the coalition, in the coming general election.
He said only one symbol would be used by all the component parties as a common indication that no one party would control the coalition.
In this respect, he urged the people against being influenced by Opposition propaganda that Umno is the main component party heading the Barisan Nasional. Attending the MCA Chinese New Year open house at the Yu Yuan hall, Mile 4, here, Saturday, he said mutual cooperation and understanding among the component parties is vital for electoral victory. Expressing confidence of a convincing electoral victory for the BN, Musa said the people are wise enough to evaluate the Government through unity and peace that had always been in existence, contributing to the progress and development. Earlier, the Chief Minister, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Joseph Pairin Kitingan and Batu Sapi MP Edmond Chong Ket Wah, also attended a similar function at the Thai Tong Hall, Mile 5. At the Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Chinese New Year open house in Kota Kinabalu on Friday, Musa said he would leave it to the BN component parties on whether a candidate should contest for both State and parliamentary seats. However, Musa, who is also State BN head as well as Sabah Umno liaison Chief, said in the case of Umno, the party would stick to the existing practice of allowing a candidate to contest only in one seat. "In Umno, it is one candidate for one seat. It is up to the component parties to decide what is best for them. If they think a candidate should contest in both seats, we have no problem with that." On request by Kalabakan Umno division that the Merotai State seat, currently held by Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Liew Yun Fah of the Liberal Democratic Party, be given to Umno, Musa said he had yet to decide. Musa also attended open houses organised by Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) and MCA. PBS President Datuk Seri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, when asked whether he and two other PBS leaders would continue to contest in both State and parliamentary seats, said that they were still considering various factors before making any decision. Pairin, who is Deputy Chief Minister as well as Rural Development Minister, is the Assemblyman for Tambunan and also the MP for Keningau. The other two PBS leaders are Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Dr Maximus Ongkili and Resource Development Minister Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai. Ongkili is the Assemblyman for Tandek and MP for Kota Marudu which Dr Yee is Assemblyman for Api Api and Kota Kinabalu MP. Asked whether PBS had finalised the list of candidates for the election, Pairin said even if there was already a list, it could still be changed. "It is normal, based on our experience, even after we have arranged and considered everything, sometimes we cannot avoid making changes at the last minute," he said. Pairin reminded the people of Sabah to continue giving their strong support to the BN. SAPP President Datuk Yong Teck Lee, when met at the party's open house, said he would announce at an opportune time whether he would contest in the coming Polls. – dailyexpress.com.my
