What Malays must understand is that it is the Rakyat that are the masters, and NOT the leaders. If we understood that, we’d realize that competition between separate workable political coalitions is in the best interest of all Malaysians, including us.

Suflan Shamsuddin

Be it in the corridors of power or in coffee shops around Malaysia, the UMNO plot to deliver the ‘Malay Unity’ talks continues unabated. Success could take the shape of a formal merger, a loose forum, or something in between. A united political voice will protect the Malay hegemony and cripple Pakatan Rakyat.

UMNO won’t bother talking unity with PKR. It is too hostile. The tactic to undermine PKR is to neutralize the ‘head honcho’ and his cohorts. Succeed at that, and this house of cards will fall, reason the UMNO tacticians.

Between delivering ‘Malay Unity’, neutralizing the PKR leader, and promoting disharmony within Pakatan Rakyat, UMNO/BN reckons it has the perfect three-prong war strategy to win the next election. All without changing the way it governs. Game, Set and Match.

This article focuses solely on the first prong of this strategy. The others will be looked at separately.

PAS conservatives are tempted. UMNO offers the greatest ideological alignment. Nik Aziz and the Erdogans have helped repel advances. But politics is like business. With a change in the board or management, anything is possible. UMNO can bide its time.

UMNO tells the Malays that the agenda is to protect their interests.  But is that right? Or is this just political gimmickry?

The Malay Unity agenda will invariably create a ‘fortress’ mentality. Why? Because it is premised on the notion of ‘Us’ (Malays) being under siege by ‘Them’ (non-Malays). UMNO’s policies, actions and rhetoric must point to the need to ‘raise the drawbridge, point the cannons, and make ready the archers’.

At the centre of this fortress will stand the knights who use Ketuanan Melayu and Islam to guard it at all cost. And the Malays just might be taken in, not least because many still accept the role of political leaders as overlords to whom unfettered loyalty is owed.

If a body believes that it is attacked, it will produce adrenaline to increase its energy, defences, and reflexes. But as that happens, the mind’s capacity to grow, develop, and mature is impaired. That’s simply a function of responding to a perceived crisis.

Communities and nations respond the same way. In World War II, the UK, the US, and others fought to defend against aggression. National growth and development was suspended until victory was secured.

This fortress mentality helps raise energy levels for aggression and defensiveness. If the Malays succumb, they will be leaving their destiny in the hands of their political leaders. And the development of core qualities that builds self-reliance, which is needed for their longer-term success, will be sacrificed. (See my Malaysia Today article entitled “The Malay Struggle and the Traitors” on a fuller description of these core qualities.)

If the Malay Unity agenda were promoted solely for UMNO’s political expedience, without there truly being a siege, then it would be a con job of the highest degree against the Malays. Because they will ultimately loose out. It will also be a betrayal of the trust that non-Malays have given much to collective nation building. This is a disastrous cocktail to brew.

What Malays must understand is that it is the Rakyat that are the masters, and NOT the leaders. If we understood that, we’d realize that competition between separate workable political coalitions is in the best interest of all Malaysians, including us.  A one-party/coalition monopoly (which is what we would be left with if the Unity talks bring down Pakatan Rakyat) creates inefficiency, and allows for patronage, authoritarianism and racial extremism to go unchecked.

If elements within PAS remain adamant that they sit more comfortably with UMNO/BN, and others feel more comfortable with PKR/PR, then the best outcome would be for PAS to split along such lines.  What emerges will be a stable two-party/coalition system. And believe it or not, every one gains from this outcome.

It takes honesty for UMNO to admit that their strategy to make short-term political gains greatly damages the nation. But my hunch tells me that this word remains unfashionable to those who wield the real influence from within.

The poor which the majority of us are have got no interest to protect lah!

Only the rich wants to continue to be richer and hence clamour for protection of their rights! The poor do not worry about their special rights and so called privileges. They can't even get 3 square meals and a decent roof over their heads. Some only put RM 1.50 cents of petrol into their motorbikes to go to work and come back. They have to pump petrol daily to balance their pocket!

Please lah. All these talk is between the rich and the richer!

Park lah.

This the Malays must realise - that Dr M had previously used this slogan (Malay Unity) very successfully AND 1) became a dictator 2) enriched his family 3) created and enriched a bunch of cronies 4) created a corrupt political culture and 5) created a bunch of Malays who are racist, people who love the politician and do maximum damage to the country. Malaysian Unity is more important for 1) the country 2) our next generation to prosper and live in harmony. Malays, Chinese and Indian loving and respecting each other!

Indeed, the Utterly Moronic Nazi Organization is going full steam ahead on their battle royale to cling on to power, and disband Pakatan Rakyat. What is fortunate for us is that they are so darn obvious and predictable doing it, with no guile and finesse at all. This is because of their Arrogance, which works in our favour !! Using all the Federal organs such as the Pariah DRM, and the MACC, AG, IGP, etc., and the MSM, UMNO is striving very hard to take back Selangor, Kedah, and Penang, and breaking up Pakatan Rakyat by sowing seeds of discord amongst the 3 parties.

We, the Electorate are not blind, and the majority of the Malays, Chinese, and Indians plus others can see this clearly now. So my advice to all is to VOTE for Pakatan Rakyat no matter what is printed, said, done, and instigated by the Federal Organs or MSM.

Be PATRIOTIC ! Vote OUT Barisan Najis ! Vote IN Pakatan Rakyat, no matter what ! We need a 2-Party system for Malaysia's long term benefit !!

UMNO always believed in the phrase"UNITED WE FALL,DIVIDED WE STAND".As fifty over years of experience has shown in no uncertain terms that this only served the UMNO heads and their immediate families and friends. They sucked the sap out of this country not for the people, but to fill their own pockets. All this slime and sludge will be dug out soon the people will not let anything rest.

This sums up the politics in Malaysia perfectly -

"Between delivering ‘Malay Unity’, neutralizing the PKR leader, and promoting disharmony within Pakatan Rakyat, UMNO/BN reckons it has the perfect three-prong war strategy to win the next election. All without changing the way it governs. Game, Set and Match."

Everthing that BN has done so far matches the quote above.

Hoo boy! The umnoputra bumis are always harping on ketuanan Melayu and ketuanan Islam. And what are the Sabahan and Sarawakian bumiputras? Chop suey? It's time for the natives of Sabah and Sarawak to rise up like their headhunter warrior ancestors and fight for their rights with PR. BN is only in power because of Sabah and Sarawak and they claimed that they stand behind you all the way except that they are actually sodomizing you from behind all the way. smilies/cheesy.gif smilies/grin.gif

It is hope that malays in general will not suffer fools gladly. UMNO has conned us for so lonmg and are we going to be pawns again. Can't we see throygh the many lies of UMNO.

Those in PAS who are comfortable with UMNO are those who are racist and greedy in attitude, not that they do not know the evil of UMNO. They may wear the cloth of an IMAM but they would prefer the smell of money than the pureness of GOD's words.

UMNO forgotten that Malaysia is a democratic country and election happens every four or five years. They are busy bringing down PR's state government and forget that they might lost it in three or four years again. They forget that they have a country to run which is Malaysia. Do we still want to invest in a political party that is more interested in their own well being rather our country MALAYSIA. I will let you decide but time is runnig out before we fall in the same level as Myanmar.

In line with our truly glorious Islamic ideology and tenets, AMENO Youth is demanding Jibby to tear down all gambling outlets like 3D, 4D, Sports Toto, and the King of all gambling outlets Getning Highlands Casino. UMNO Youth demands that Jibby stop all forms of association with cronies like Vincent Tan, Anandakrishnan, Lim Goh Tong and others who have brought Malaysia and its true pristine Islamic status into disreput and given it a bad name by introuducing this biggest Sin In Islam. Ameno Youth together with Muhyiddin demand immediate action in closing down all these gambling outlets or else they will run riot in tearing them down themselves. AMENO Youth fully agrees with PAS to formally introduce Hudud Law at the federal and state level and for a trial basis apply it on all those corrupt muslim politicians who have aggrandized massive wealth that Allah Allmighty bountifully bestowed on his meek rakyat. So once hudud law is passed don't be surprised if slimeballs and scumbags like KJ, Khir Toyol, Che Det and his sons, Patinggi Taib Mahmud and other criminal warlords will perhaps have lost some limbs to pay for the crime on humanity, looting and uncontrolled lust and abuse of power. Malaysia Boleh!

After 40 years of programming especially by Mahathir, Malaysian are used to think of Malays as natives like aborigines in Australia, Red Indians in America or blacks in Africa or US. The truth is Malays are NOT like them.

Remember that Malaysia got its independence in 1957, 10 years after India. The Aborigines never got independence, Neither did the Red Indians and Blacks in US are American. The civil right movement in US STARTED only in the 1950s and the civil war was fought by whites a century before.

The abilities of the Malays to adopt liberal ideas and political progress cannot be underestimated. Thailand never was colonised. Indonesia went from a dictatorship to essentially the best democracy in South East Asia. Philippines, went from a basket case democracy after Marcos to stability better than ours even as they maintained their democracy.

Yes there are feudal remnant, but those who don't see what happened in Indonesia, People power in Philippines, and even what will unavoaidable topple of Burma Junta, is just arrogant elitist that really are not so smart...Yes we are not liberal western democraties and humanists but we are not pathetic feudal sheeps incapable of developing minds of our own and organise against outdated abusive elitism..BN eventual downfall is because they fell into that trap and cannot get up...

There is one other method they plan to use. This an insidious method which is sitting just under the radar at the moment and by the time we realise it, it will be too late. This is the re-delineation exercise for adjustment of the electoral boundaries. This is due before the GE13 and as the ruling government has the power to arrange the boundaries, they will of course do it to suit themselves. I believe this power is given to them as a right given to the incumbent government, though someone more clued on these matters can clarify who awards this privilege, either the parliament or the constitution??.
With the wealth of data available to them (voting streams according to age, serial numbers and marks on ballots etc etc), they are able to very easily see where the lines can be redrawn and you can be very sure they will use this to their advantage. If they are able to get away with this, without being too obvious, they will. There have been cases, easily verified, where boundaries have been stretched along one road to a 'bubble' of 'friendly forces' and the opposition can do little about this. This is called gerrymandering and one of the Kings of Gerrymander was Johannes Bjelke-Petersen, Premier of Queensland state in Australia for 19 years prior to 1988. ****** his name and see if he sounds like the good friend of TDM and his ilk! The words corrupt and controversial pop up a lot!
See this section form the wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joh_Bjelke-Petersen
Bjelke-Petersen's administration was partly kept in power by an electoral malapportionment where rural electoral districts had significantly fewer enrolled voters than those in metropolitan areas. This system was originally introduced by the Labor Party in 1949 as an overt electoral fix. Under Nicklin the bias in favour of rural constituencies was maintained. In 1972 Sir Joh strengthened the system to favour his own party, which led to his opponents referring to it as the "Bjelke-mander", a play on the term "gerrymander". Although Bjelke-Petersen's 1972 redistributions occasionally had elements of "gerrymandering" in the strict sense, their perceived unfairness had more to do with malapportionment whereby certain areas (normally rural) are simply granted more representation than their population would dictate if electorates contained equal numbers of voters (or population). The lack of a state upper house (which Queensland had abolished in 1922) allowed legislation to be passed without the need to negotiate with other political parties.
Let us keep our fingers on the button. Please.
