A Terengganu state assemblyman has been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for alleged graft involving a project worth more than RM1.5mil.

It is learnt that the assemblyman from Barisan Nasional was arrested together with another man who is believed to be his agent.

The assemblyman is said to have demanded payment from a developer on a monthly basis for the next 24 months.

He is said to have so far received more than RM20,000 from the developer.

Sources said the two men were arrested yesterday.

They said the assemblyman was caught red-handed while receiving money by Putrajaya MACC officers who had been investigating the case for weeks.

According to the sources, the assemblyman had demanded at least 10% of the project cost as commission for himself.

Both men are expected to be remanded before a magistrate’s court in Terengganu today to facilitate investigations into the case.

The MACC sources said the commission would press on with investigations into high-profile politicians both from the Government and the Opposition despite being accused of being biased.

MACC director of investigations Datuk Mohd Shukri Abdull confirmed the arrests but declined to elaborate.

What is the use if this case turn cold in the end, as in the case of the 2 frogs from Perak? Show the people, when will the court hang the 2 frogs who had admitted that it is bad manners to reject an offer.

this is UMNO internal battle and MACC may have been sent to sort it out for those in power. Otherwise there is no action against UMNO leaders.

I hope this is not a sandiwara to show the people that MACC is independent of the govt. Ever since the death of TBH anything the MACC does is highly suspicious.

MACC is used to get the political opponent from the outside as well as thsoe inside their own party. So all must tow the line of the great master of darkness.

The political situation for BN/UMNO in Terengganu is shaky with another uprising coming against the MB. While this arrest is laudable, it is most probably to warn other Terengganu ADUNs to toe the line and not really to weed out corruption. In any case, to arrest is one thing and to actually prosecute and put him in jail is another.

Sure, sure. In the end nothing will come about. Just their way to cover our eyes as if they're impartial. It frustrates me to think that the government still thinks we're stupid!
