"Whipping is a norm in many Islamic States. Last month in Bangladesh a widow was whipped 202 times and a man 101 times following a fatwa by a religious leader for their alleged involvement in "anti-social activity" in a village in south eastern Bangladesh, prompting local protests and action by the police. Piara Begum, a widow of 40, and Mamun Miah, 25, were whipped before hundreds of people at Khaiyar in Comilla district. The woman fell unconscious and was rushed to hospital and was admitted for intensive treatment."

Over here in our country in Kuantan, Syariah judge Datuk Abdul Rahman Yunus fined Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarnor, from Sungai Siput, Perak a model RM5,000 and imposed six whippings after she pleaded guilty to consuming an alcoholic drink in public last year.

In the Quran there is no mention of whipping anyone for consuming alchohol or intoxicants. The truth is, in the Quran, there is no temporal punishment of any sort prescribed for consuming alchohol or intoxicants. But society must regulate itself in order to live safely. We cannot have drunken people driving or running all over the place.

for syariah law, If one guilty of abibe alcohol, you get lashings.

For MACC law, if you are question for a case, you get thrown out of the window

why pick on one person?? just to make an example out of her? because she feels vulnerable at this time and have no big shot to pull strings for her??

i wish stiffer punishment be placed on men who abuse their wive/s and who do not pay alimony!!!

Arguable as what can intoxicate one person, may stimulate another person. Arguably too, alcohol has its uses and sometimes one needs to consume some beer to "cool" one's body system down. Let this be between the drinker and Allah, and unless the drinker indulges in drunken behaviour and endangers life, he/ she should be allowed to do what they like !!

This is an intrusion of privacy and totally barbaric !!

Starting on the 19th of July 1988, between 8,000 and 30,000 political prisoners were summarily tried (without defense) and executed by hanging in a two-month long extermination campaign following a fatwa by Ayatollah Khomeini (Operation Eternal Light). Most of those executed were high school and university students. Females made up to 10% of those executed (by lashing as they cannot be hung).

I think many of us have seen photos of the son of a Muslim VVIP posing for photos in close proximity with young white ladies and was very puffed in the face, obviously high from alcohol.

I'll take of my hat to any court in this country which dares to whip him.

Religion are made up by men.
God never prescribe religion to anyone.
Whipping is cruel, especially for such harmless activity as beer drinking.
Leaving ones family without any money is even more cruel. Many muslim men do this and let the burden of caring for the children to the wife. They come home to **** only.

After whipping 202 times, rushed that woman to hospital and admitted in ICU...... what a hippocrisy? And the man only 101 times? Islamists are real terrorists, both domestically and abroad. No wonder most non-muslims look down on the religion and ardent followers.

Anyway, whether whipping, stonning or chopping of hands, they are done only to those not well connected. The others have gala times with wine, women (including rape), corruption, cheating, gambling and minor vices. Even the Chief was like that 1400 years ago.

Never mind the fact, there is no conclusive proof of his mighty existence, but one must rely on FAITH. Meaning something like believing it is there even though you saw nothing. Mental illnesses do exist in many forms.

What can one say, it must be Allah's will.
A woman drinking for herself without causing a nuisance to third parties gets caning and fine. But people who smoke, destroying themselves, their families and other non-smokers and causing danger to public are not touched despite specifically being banned in numerous places including Airport, LRT, Railway stations, government offices in Putrajaya and ofcourse Parliament. Parliament canteen is full of VIP smoke, an exemplary model for the nation. Most Muslim restaurants sell cigarettes too! It is no wonder smokers including women are on the rise.
