If we want justice to be upheld, we must hold BN accountable — and to do this, we need competition: we need PR. Teo’s death has brought together PR politicians of all races, religions and affiliations to condemn the suspicious behaviour of the MACC and mourn his passing.

John Lee, The Malaysian Insider

Two things dominated the headlines this week: Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR) infighting, and the sudden death of a PR politician’s aide in the custody of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

This strange, mysterious incident exemplifies everything Malaysians have grown to detest about our institutions, from their political pliability to their lack of respect for the basic dignity of the human life.

That someone can so easily die in custody is yet another reminder after Manek Urai that PR needs to close ranks around its key principles of institutional reform and respect for the rights of all Malaysians.

With all this news of infighting in PR — internecine struggles not only between parties, but within parties from PAS to PKR — it is easy to forget what PR stands for and what PR represents. It is naturally easy to remember why PR politicians are squabbling. They are, after all, politicians.

A politician’s occupation is to seek power. Some politicians in PAS think the best route to power is through Umno. Some politicians in PR think they know better than others how to gain power for the coalition — hence Azmin Ali’s meddling in the Khalid Ibrahim administration of Selangor. But all politicians, whether they belong to Barisan Nasional or PR, seek power; it’s in their job description—it’s what they do.

What truly distinguishes politicians from one another is the reason they seek power. Some seek power to enrich themselves and their cronies. Some seek power to serve their nation. Some seek power to do both. What differentiates PR from BN is that many, many more PR politicians are doing their job out of a desire to serve, and not a desire to corrupt.

Talk of PR’s downfall is in the air, now that the momentum seems to be on BN’s side. With talks of a split in PAS and obvious feuding within PR, it is hard not to think that PR will go down in flames.

I totally agreed with your view. And in fact, most of the politician are "Power Crazy" and used up the people to gain the political power and mileage, however, who will never been this "Power Crazy" through out the world.
What we people want is DELIVERY. And of-cause free from cronies corruptions. The power to unite is getting thicker and deeper for the nation who seek for the change. To the MB, that we supports especially from PR, listen to the people, the UNITED FORCE are not coming from the incident, the UNITED FORCE should come from the principle of Barisan Rakyat. We want to see the truth color of politician who can help the nation, and not for your own agenda political gain.

Something are very wrong in Malaysia! The sun seems to rise from the west and set in the east. Many things had gone haywired and out of control.

The people chosed the government to rule, ended up the government rule and oppressed the people.

The PDRM supposed to protect the people, ended in the PDRM protect the criminals and torturing and killing the people.

The MACC supposed to fight corruption and abuse of power, ended up they are abusing their power and committing corruptions, being manupilated by some politians. Helping the perpetrators and silencing the informers.

The Judiciary supposed to fight injustice and seek impartiality for the people, ended up being fighting justices and being bought as tools for some politicians.

The Government supposed to promoted racial harmony, peace and prosperity, but ended up in instigating racial tensions, mistrust and disloyaty among the people.

The royalties supposed to gain more reverances and respects from the people but
seems to be losing the meagre respect left as the days goes by. They are supposed to fight injustice for the people and ended up protecting their self-interests and those of some politicians.

The Attorney General supposed to curb abuses and fight misuse of powers, ended up supporting abuse of powers and endorsing corruption.

The people should have made tremendous progress in national unity and racial harmony after 50 years of national integrations, but we are worst than where we have started.

Who should be held responsible for these national calamities?

PR component praties should know "Unite" make them gain 5 states and 80 plus MP.

At this very situation, PR should pursuit of unity among itself but not unveil more scar on its body! Rakyat can only help you once time in 5 year interval!

PR politician must keep in mind "Unite" is the only way to save themselves, otherwise there will be more PR reps or aide or supporter thrown down from high rise building!

Let's all unite to oust UMNO/BN. They are all criminals who want to avoid going to jail, thay's why they must stay in power. We can not allow criminals to dictate and continue thier evil ways.

Teoh's death was no accident. I have friends whom I know voted for BN, called or texted me to express sympathy for Teoh. I told them to fcuk off as they are as guilty as can be in his death. Let it be known that all those in BN and their supporters are considered a party or an accomplice to the murderers of innocent malaysians

Hello Jason,

I have seen your comments on MT pretty often. From now on your family will never vote for BN, you said?? You mean to say there are BN supporters in your family and you are the odd one in their midst?? Pls tell your family members they have supported a regime that systematically murder innocent malaysians. They are as guilty as hell.

People like Jason must win over all in the family, friends, colleagues, acquaintances, etc to help bring change by ousting UMNO the evil in this land.

After Manik Urai, many asked PR to do some soul-searching, including some high ranking guys from PR components. But the untimely death of Teoh had overshadowed Manik Urai. PR leaders seemed united for now but I do not know for how long. My guess is that after Teoh's funeral, eloquent eulogies and a decent space of time, they will be at each other's throats. It is really sad that we see PR squandering the trust and even affection given to it by the people. PR must now know GE13 is no longer a given. Maybe Teoh's passing will galvanise PR into a cohesive force. Maybe it will not. Then Teoh would have died in vain.
