(Bernama) TRONOH: The 1Malaysia concept aimed at building a united Malaysia based on the principles of acceptance, equality and sharing among the country’s multiracial and multireligious society is not something alien to the Muslim community.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the community in Medina at the time of Prophet Muhammad was a multi-religious community founded on the principles of acceptance and sharing between the Muslims and non-Muslims.

“The principle of equality in Islam as a just religion also places the importance of fairness in relations between people.

“No one should be marginalised or denied of their rights just because they are of a different religion,” he said at the opening of the 52nd national-level Quran Reciters’ Assembly at the Dewan Canselor, Universiti Teknologi Petronas last night.

United we stand A billboard depicting the 1Malaysia concept at the Federal Highway in Kuala Lumpur. The concept created by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, is based on the principle of justice for all Malaysians regardless of race, religion and background.

The text of Najib’s speech was read by his deputy Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. Also present were Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Jamil Khir Baharom.

The prime minister said by imbibing and practising the principles of acceptance, equality and sharing, Malaysia’s multi-religious society could continue to live in peace, prosperity and harmony.

He said in the effort to foster unity in such a multi-religious society, it was important for each citizen to be rid of primitive thinking and reject any form of religious extremism.

“Islam emphasises moderation and justice, so if each religious faithful takes a moderate approach and is fair to people of other faiths, God willing, unity, peace and stability will prevail in this country,” he said.

Najib said besides organising the reciters’ assembly each year to remind Muslims to live their lives guided by the Quran, the government also made other efforts to enhance understanding and the practice of Quranic teachings, hence uplifting the status of Islam.

For this purpose, he added, the government had allocated RM10mil for holders of the Tahfiz Darul Quran (Quran memorising) Diploma to pursue the degree level at the public higher learning institutions.

There are 29 reciters from 14 states taking part in this Tilawah AlQuran with Perak being represented by Shamsul Ariffin Saban @ Supian in the men’s section and Sharifah Khasif Fadzillah Syed Mohd Badiuzzaman in the women’s section.

The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah, will close the tilawah on Saturday, with the top reciters in the men’s and women’s categories each receiving RM10,000, a challenge trophy, accompanying trophy, a Haj package, certificate and souvenir.

The runners-up will each receive RM7,000, a souvenir and certificate, while the third placed will get RM5,000, a souvenir and certificate. The consolation prizes for the other participants are RM2,000, a souvenir and certificate each.

The theme of the tilawah this time is “Unity the Catalyst for the Well-Being of the Ummah“.

"Concept based on acceptance, equality and sharing"
Do you mean that...
All citizens must accept all the discriminative policies that the ruling government used to specifically deprive certain communities irrespective of merits..
All citizens will be equal except that a certain community will have to be more equal than others due to their superiority position..otherwise all are equal...
All citizens will have a share in this country except that a certain community will have a bigger share allocated by the government due to their superior position..otherwise everybody shares...
There you are....the Acceptance, Equality and Sharing that we will have under the 1Malaysia...and please don't ask anymore question...

Racism is the conviction that the members of one race are inherently superior to the members of other races. Racism may also be characterized by other broad generalities such as the expectation that members of certain races are more intelligent, have better lifestyle or are more hard-working. While these characterizations are not necessarily negative, they still hold to a narrow view of certain populations. Racism is a limiting, narrow-minded mentality that does not allow one to judge another through knowledge and personal interaction. Instead, one is judged solely by the racial or ethnic group to which they belong. In actuality, racist individuals are virtually incapable of any fair or correct evaluation of another person; racial prejudice builds a wall. It is impossible to see past the preconceived ideas.

Racism has birthed many of society’s ills. Discrimination, separation, and segregation are products of a racist mentality. When one race acts out its superior beliefs in a society, there is no room for harmony or community. In order to remain superior in their own eyes, members of one race have enslaved and/or destroyed their “neighbors.”

Racism is moral blindness; it fails to appreciate that the difference in the biological and physical characteristics of individuals is a cause for wonder. Each race is unique; each individual is special. Most importantly, the differences are superficial. In reality, humans are largely more similar to one another than different. All mankind has the same origin, indeed we are one race of Homo sapiens.

Often underlying racist beliefs and practices is the emotion of fear. Many individuals react with fear towards those who look or appear different than themselves. Fear leads to self-protectiveness and defensiveness mostly causing pain and discomfort to the object of the fear. Instead of attempts to bridge the differences, the wall is maintained; unity and harmony are never reached.

Equality my foot! The importance of equality in Islam has never prevented the racist muslims from UMNO and PAS to keep barking on and on for Malay rights! I really doubt Malaysia malays would ever let go of the 'Malay Rights' mentality for as long as there are malays in Malaysia. We can say it a million times that Islam forbids racism, but muslims in malaysia will never accept want to accept that. Malaysia is hypocrisy immortalized.

Najis is where he is today because believers of RAHMAN prophecy put him there. The rakyat did not. Anyone with an "N" in his name will be PM, including any Nutcase. He is there because he has not been fair. He's there because he never intended to share his commissions with us. So, what is this bull about Acceptance, Equality and Sharing? It's more like telling the rakyat to forcibly accept him, that the minorities pls don't harp on equality, and that the minorities pls share what you have while the majority will keep everything they have to themselves. Has the majority tried to share?? No, they think everything is rightfully theirs and it's enshrined in the constitution. Try asking sharing some land and see what happens??

So, you have a billboard with a picture of three smiling kids - Malay, Chinese and Indian. This equates to 1Malaysia? If only real life were so simple. I list below some of the things I equate to 1Malaysia, not necessarily in their order of importance:
1. Any Malaysian can be the Prime Minister.
2. Scholarships should be given to the needy based on exams results.
3. All Malaysians should have the freedom to choose whichever religion they want to practise.
4. Jobs in both the public and private sector should be given based on qualifications, experience and competence.
5. Assistance given to the needy based not on race but on needs.

Nice 'feel-good' vague up-in-the-cloud concepts - but still nothing about rights.

But unless it translates into real genuine implementation, and our reality actually becomes the same as the concept, nobody is buying this messaging strategy.
