There are more negatives than positives during the first 100 days under new prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

The opinion was given by no less than the fourth prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today.

"But on the positive side, he's meeting more people and most of all he doesn't sleep," said Mahathir, who ruled Malaysia for 22 years.

Among the negatives the 84-year-old cited were the proposal for a third bridge linking Malaysia to Singapore, the reversal of the PPSMI policy and Najib's liberalisation efforts.

"For 10 years (from 1987-1997), Malaysia recorded very strong growth despite the NEP (New Economic Policy). Direct FDI (foreign direct investment) flowed into the country although NEP was there.

"The current recession is caused by world conditions and FDI going to other countries like Vietnam and China because they are low cost centres. Ending NEP will not help," Mahathir told reporters during a press conference earlier.

During the question-and-answer session of the forum on "The position of monarchs and Malays in the Federal Constitution", Mahathir said the only the positive thing about the new administration was the introduction of Key Performance Index (KPI) for ministers and the recent ministers' retreat.

during 1987-1997, the whole region was booming, including brunei, cambodia, myanmar etc. it has nothing to do with mahathir. It was the effect of fdi's pumping tonnes of money into emerging markets in the far east.

There are probably thousands and thousands of fence sitters who would usher back in the N if they practise what they preach. But unfortunately that is not the case. A fine example is the English language for Maths and Science. Now they know that there can be bo compromise on that what with advancement in global cybernetics and the attraction of foreign investments. Also why do they send their own children overseas to study if our education is so good. And yet, they can revert back to teaching the subjects in Bahasa. It's the same with corruption. They know its bad yet nothing is done. Why is that? How to vote for for BN?

Najib had always been TDM's prefered choice for PM and yet the only credit TDM can see in Najib's 100 days is just the introduction of KPI. We are not even talking about the implementation of KPI yet and whether this is going to be successful.

TDM is just admitting that there are no leaders of calibre in UMNO and he has also indirectly admitted that most of these UMNO leaders are corrupted.

Probably TDM's next prefered choice of leader is Mukhriz as he cannot see beyond UMNO.
