The People's Parliament

On 15th June, in Parliament, Najib purported to explain his 1Malaysia. This is The Malaysian Insider’s Hafidz Baharom’s take on that explanation:

“Personally looking at it, I still don’t understand just what exactly the 1 Malaysia concept is. I mean, even Mahathir’s Vision 2020 and Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s Islam Hadhari had better explanations.

If there was one thing our beloved Prime Minister has done, it’s to confuse everyone in Malaysia with a policy that isn’t “too rigid” but unoriginal, unexplainable and downright incomprehensible to anyone but himself”.

Hafidz, in his article, alluded to his penchant for referring to Hansard. If you would like to refer to Hansard to get a blow-by-blow account of what Najib said on his 1Malaysia, you can access the same, in PDF, HERE. Go directly to page 8 for that account. Take it from page 1 if you want to read about the antics that followed Nizar’s swearing-in.

Personally, I preferred to try and make sense of Najib’s 1Malaysia, if at all possible, from his dissertation that was uploaded on his blog on 15th June and 18th June.

He starts off in the second paragraph by declaring that the ultimate goal of 1Malaysia is national unity which, he says, has been the vision of the leaders before him.

Tunku, I believe so. Hussein Onn, perhaps.

Razak?

Mahathir?

Pak Lah?

A bit of Mahathir’s ‘distortion’ creeping into 1Malaysia, don’t you think?

1Malaysia, Najib says, differs from the aspirations of earlier leaders only in its approach and implementation.

Let’s see.

Najib's speech was definitely written by the 4th floor Oxford boys.
Must have taken him quite some time learning to pronounce some of the words.
Basically it is disinformation planned to confuse the people.
What he forgot was that the people are just not that stupid anymore.

Awang Selamat: Melayu sudah diambang kejatuhan...
Jul 5, 09 11:52am

The problem with Malaysia is that one of the race cannot stand the sight of the minority races progressing or improving at greater pace than them. They can't even stand the sight of the minorities having a piece of the economic pie. They have forgotten that these minorities have also helped to gain independence and nation building. Everytime this majority race will use the threat that they akan hilang kuasa, di jatuhkan oleh the minorities , and all those nonsense. better to take away the minorities' citizenship than to treat them as 2nd class citizen. come on , you don't live in hang tuah's time anymore. even a black guy can be the president of united states.what are you guys behaving like a feudalistic society.

"Make the Federal Constitution a compulsory part of the history syllabus."

Well why not??.. Then it becomes like the US Declaration of Independence and the Morals that are taught in Malaysian Schools... an examinable subject that all students can prattle off like spoon fed Zombies

I know virtually nothing about the Australian Constitution apart from the fact that it has served the country well for over 100yrs and that it belongs to the people of Australia and they are the only ones who can make changes to it

How many Malaysians think they own their Constitution? So what's the point of being able to recite it word for word

1Malaysia is a good concept. You guys are just bias.

red, i'm trying to be open minded here... so please enlighten us on why 1malayisa is a good concept? how does it fit the SMART criteria...? specifically:
how is it "specific"?
how is it "measurable"?
how is it "time-based"?
what are the critical success factors?
what are the KPI's?
surely any run-of-the-mill manager worth his/her salt will know the above are minimum requirements for any plan, let alone a "good" one. unless it's just another slogan to hoodwink the people, as usual.
