A Pakatan Shadow Cabinet! At long last!! PDF Print

Well, ok, it may not *exactly* be in the shape some of us imagined, as YB’s Azmin and Tony explained; but this is exactly the configuration I have always thought would be most practical, given the Pakatan context and dynamics.

Naming individuals as shadow ministers is a politically exhausting process. I think this alternative will allow Pakatan MPs to show that they have the calibre of ministers, and that they have better, concrete, alternative policy ideas.

The whole thing is all very interesting, but for now (beyond perhaps saying that I’m not thrilled about Zul Nordin), I’d just like to enjoy and bask in the fact that it merely exists :) This is a first for the country, and truly, a step forward for Malaysia.

At last, Malaysia has gone one step further in democracy by following the established method practised in the United Kingdom and Australian Parliament.

Now, time to put everyone to task!

It's about time.....the PR has to quickly focus and build on this...

They should hound each Ministry till we get our taxes worth...they can begin with Finance, Transport and Health.....

Ok for a shadow cabinet. But when Pakatan does form the federal govt, I hope they would be more innovative in constructing the form and function of the Cabinet. And I hope to see more tecnocrats in the line-up during the next GE.

Some of the YBs could be better placed but I'll go with whatever for now. Certain Ministries require savvy in that certain field, and you do not want to just put any dorks in there. Others will require firmness of character or personality to blend with the expectations of that portfolio.

Which brings me to YB Fong Po Kuan .... KEMENTERIAN PEMBANGUNAN WANITA, KELUARGA DAN MASYARAKAT ? She breathes fire. She's a chilli padi. Why waste her to shadow that Ministry? Not much is expected from Sharizat anyway. Maybe YB Dr Lo Lo or someone else can spar better with Sharizat there.

But YB Fong Po Kuan should be in a Ministry like Home Ministry (too much abuses of power), Defence (humongous contracts require closer monitoring, otherwise we'll have another RM500mil draining off somewhere) or Transport (even if it's just so that the PKFZ scandal is fully brought out into the open, and the culprits made accountable). We need her fire there!

The announcement must be desperate measure from Pakatan after the last few weeks of disarray. I really hope they buck up. The secretariate should be set up asap so that PAS won't say anymore silly things like unity government, intellectual discussion, Hadi Awang's objection over removal of 30% bumi equity from PLC. And I think Pakatan should make a stand over teaching Maths and Science in English. I agree that it's a good idea, but only in the long run. There must be capacity building first, in respect of teachers who speaks proper English and uses correct terminology, or for that matter quality teachers who grasps maths and science concepts firmly in the first place. Show BN why you are different, better, and at a more cost effective way.

Nice work. However, please go back and give us a unified Cabinet not one for each party. Can someone tells these politicians we want people that can work for the country and not for the political party or individual needs?

First, PR need to be registered as a party like BN. DSAI, please go get some more parties into PR .... if need be create a few more and make up the numbers. I like the shadow govt. but like fireduck said ... 'Fong Po Kuan' is wasted in Women's Ministry la! She is power-puff girl ... give her more important role. I also like Dr Lo Lo in Women's Affair.

My 2 sen. Syabas PR ... go after them!!!!

Bravo to PR for coming up with the first shadow cabinet in Malaysia.
As Malaysian politics is clouded with racial and religious sentiments,a shadow minister from each coalition is a correct step to begin with.
From a negative perspective ,the rakyat may witness a shadow ministry with 3 brains going 3 different ways.
From a positive perspective ,3 brains in 1 shadow ministry could be a force to to reckon with.
Come on PR ,say or propose something intelligent in these shadow ministries.
Show the rakyat ,the shadow cabinet has substance when compare to BN's cabinet.
You have less than 3 years to prove your credibility.
Shadow ministers must avoid blurting out nonsense and exhibiting stupidity.
With BN ministers like Muhyiddin and Rais Yatim opening their mouths ,you already have an advantage.
God Bless the shadow Cabinet.
