The Malaysian Insider

Time’s up, Pakatan Rakyat. The days of courting are over. You either decide to get married or go your separate ways. Malaysians have grown weary of the soap opera which is being played out every week (or is it every other day) by different members of the opposition alliance.

Headlines such as “DAP pulls out of Kedah state government”, “Unity talks irk PAS partners” were once greeted with a shrug of the shoulders and accepted as necessary growing pains of a nascent political coalition trying to find its footing post-Election 2008.

This charitable position was anchored on the belief that in time, Parti Islam SeMalaysia (PAS), Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and the Democratic Action Party (DAP) would check their egos at the door and cobble together a common platform for a better Malaysia.

Malaysians also wanted to know if the three political parties could reach common ground on their ideological positions.

Sadly, instead of working out the details and putting in place the architecture for a stronger, and permanent, Pakatan Rakyat, leaders from PKR, PAS and DAP have been squandering away the goodwill earned 16 months ago with petty politics and gamesmanship.

Sadly, instead of seizing a historic opportunity to show Malaysians that Pakatan Rakyat has medium- and long-term strategies for a better Malaysia, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Datuk Abdul Hadi Awang and Lim Kit Siang have been more focused on a Band Aid approach.

Driving this narrow-minded thinking is the underlying belief that if push comes to shove they can always return to their support base and secure the same support from Malaysians at the next general election.

So PAS can always count on conservative Malays, DAP on the Chinese and educated non-Malays and PKR on urban Malays. This argument is like a slice of Swiss cheese: full of holes.

Who is actually fooling around, the writer or the PAKATAN coalition???

Most people could only see the black dots on the board, but fail to acknowledge the existence of the white spacious board that surrounds the black specks.

The difference between UMNO/BN and PR is the latter's willingness, and burning desire to come in contact with obstacles head-on. Never mind the sizes and forms of obstacles, the PR fighters and supporters know what they are doing and never will they stray from their vision!

The problem with DAP is that it is behaving like opposition while working in government. It is very childish act of DAP ( applies to PKR/ PAS/ Hindraf too) to split up the pact just because the slaughterhouse was torn down. When we disagree about something, we have to find the alternative. Pull out is not the pretty much a moronic act. The issue of illegal abbotoir has been for decades inherited from Corrupted Politicians, Concillors and DOE ( REad UMNO/BN). It should be settled years ago even PR government was in place.

The environmental, hygenic issue suddenly become PAS (aka Islam) issue. See how UMNO/MCA/Gerakan had a great time seeing on-off pact. When the PR government in Selangor had proposed Modern Pig Farm, UMNO demonizing PR as Pro Babi while MCA/Gerakan kept quiet.

Yet, DAP can't see how the game is being played.

TO all PRs , be it DAP, PAS or PKR... pleaselah... think big laa...

If you guys cannot handle Pigs.. how u gonnaa handle a "wolf" aka BN. Dont fall trap and dont be stupig because of egos...

Fed up with MERAJUK MERAJUK... If this kind of mentality does not cease, PR will will never win GE ....

I am an opposition supporter but I can forecast like feng-shui Master that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will die because of "Heart-Attack".Not because of the billion incurred in PKFZ; not because of he can't be the next PM; and not because of he might probably jail again.Instead he will be getting die by Heart Attack just because of his three PR babies-PKR, PAS and DAP keep on quarelling from the day they sleep in the same bed.

What a pity! Grew up, don't be silly, PKR, DAP and PAS!

I think 3 sleeping together is pretty exciting! smilies/grin.gif
But when one of them is AC/DC type (PAS) ... it could be damn frustrating! You are not sure you are getting or going to 'kena'? That's why I can emphatize with DAP's frustration ... they are obviously - one sytle type!

Can't you all see??? Any disagreement among Paakatan members, big or small ,BN media will blow it up as big as possible.

Sabar...sabar...sabar! There are bound to be disagreements now and then.Expect more of such things before Pakatan becomes more cohesive.

Have faith. All will turn out well.

See the forest for the trees. Not miss the forest for trees.

The journey is indeed a journey of a thousand miles. It has just begun.

Do not despair.
