By J.D. Lovrenciear

It is most distressing to observe the frenzy at which politicians are fanning race politics spiked with religious fervor.

While many nations across the third-world belt are rising to new heights fueled along with national interest at heart, amidst the global advances, we are back-tracking and getting into the stagnating rut of racial and religious issues.

The fact is Malaysia is not the only nation with a multi-cultural community of people. In this age of globalization every country has a potpourri of ethnic people yet they do not see themselves along racial and religious lines.

What is worrying is that our headlines keep hogging the politicians' clarion focus on race based politics and the spiking of social development with religious issues.

Today it is an open secret that despite all the many years of national aspirations to build a one nation, we are back to where we started. The need for the launching of the controversial 1-Malaysia is just one such example which speaks much of the sordid state of affairs.

One wonders whatever happened to all the talk and walk for Rukun Negara, and the numerous similar campaigns that screamed to propel the nation into the future of being a one-nation.

If we have failed -- which is the case, then who do we blame?

Whether it is the school canteen and playground, or the hallways of higher education; be it the wet markets or the warongs and eateries in big cities,; name any place and you are bound to witness how Malaysians have fallen deep into the gutters, dividing themselves with the blades of race, color and religious dichotomies.

Even though we had set forward at a great and borrowed price to develop the nation dotting the topography and skyline with towering structures and fancy buildings, we have grown far too small in our hearts and minds. That is a fact.

It is about time we set up some high powered ethically sound commission of sorts with noted personalities from independent countries to monitor and watch over politicians, local leaders and opinion formers including the media to ensure that this cartel mindset that is being practiced along race and religious parameters is given the death knoll.

Punishment must be hastened on those guilty of further dividing this nation of people along race and religion parameters.

If we do not pack the horse before the cart, we as a nation may just end up as the leper of Asia some day soon into the future.

Malaysians must rise to the occasion. If our leaders and politicians are incapable of saving the nation then only right-minded citizens can guarantee the future of Malaysia.

If the government of the day is serious of having 1malaysia then start with legislating a Race Relation Act, even country like Indonesia have recently enacted such law.

Why the Bill to table the 'Race Relation Act' was withdrawn from Parliament recently ?

Malaysia need the " Race Relation Act " immediately.

Malaysia DOES NOT need a Race Relations Act.

She needs a Race ABOLISHMENT Act. Also, the Hindu, Buddhist, Christians, Muslims, Sikhs, Mormons and what have you believers, should take their religion and keep them within personal confinement, NOT use it as a sorry excuse for gatherings which end us dwelling into political sermons that spark hatred and disunity amongst Malaysians.

You can do that, you can save Malaysia. If you can't, then just kiss her sorry ass goodbye.

To overcome the race obsession in this country, it needs to start with the racist political parties like UMNO as well as the racially biased government administration who have been brainwashed by the racist UMNO BTN programme using the tax payers' money for decades. It needs all the citizens of this country to accept the fact that for one to ask for fairness and equality is not a racial issue, it is a human right issue. Any socially disadvantaged group shall be assisted by the government to uplift their economic standing in an objective aand productive way which can produce the necessary result. The biggest joke in this country is to measure success by just looking at the equity ratio of companies and this is the kind of games played by politicians to mislead what need to be done by the country to help the majority of the poor segment of the population. This measurement has no relevance to the rural folks with lesser income...

Hi JD,

I am with you that this country is going to the dogs.
A bunch of recalcitrant leaders, many decades of singing the same tune over and over again.
Stand up and be counted.

We were once known for a country with racial harmony, tolerance, and an eye-opener to the rest of the world ! How true and proud that we once used to be ? But what happened now ? Whose faults are all these ? Before Najis can make his 1Malaysia a reality and before the Rakyats can take his words,he has to start off gagging all those goons out to fan racial hatrad and sow dis-unity ! Malaysians in general are very tolerance and respect each other well BUT NOT THEIR ELECTED LEADERS !!!! Isnt this strange ?

As long as we keep on voting in our filthy and evil racist politicians, we deserve what we get.

If we hold them accountable for their behavior and actions, we can certainly eject our filth and evil from our nation (at least ensure that they can never govern).

Its your choice - choose wisely....

I had a dream! Malaysia has banned race- and religion-based parties and has been declared a secular state. UMNO has been disbanded, so has MCA. Meritocracy reigns supreme. There will be a safety net for people with special needs regardless of race or religion. A new PM has been elected, by the people. And pigs will fly!

It have always been our lifestyle to live, talk and breathe race. I agree that this needs to change and change will take time. A long time. Mind you I am not talking a few years here but probably decades. This is most depressing but it is a fact. But now is a good time as any to start the change. Do your bid.

I was all riled up by your article and had wanted to write something terrible about the British, a little about South Africa, and mostly about apartheid. But then I told myself, what the heck, why don't I should just shut up and wait for the next general election? Man, I feel so much better now.

Anyways, good effort, Lovrencier.

The ruling party is race based. The government's policy is racial biased. The politicians exploit racial issues to survive. The only solution is: change for the better....
